I was taken to my knees when I heard this. Enjoyed hanging at the races and at Parker. I'm glad I got to know him and Michelle. Miss him already. If Michelle is on here, know that you are in our thoughts.

Hey Glenn, good to see you are finding things to stay busy in your old age.  Wait, you are younger than me I think.  :banghead:
Today is the first time I have logged into the website in a very long time, but I follow the FB page pretty regularly.  Sadly my boat hasn't seen the water in many years, but I'm just not sure on how to proceed with it.  I would like something newer but today's prices are just stoopid.  Next year will be the thirtieth and most likely the last, as they have taken me out of my position after 28 years (where I was working with kids one on one) and put me back in the regular classroom.  Needless to say, this is not how I had planned to wrap up my teaching career.
Are you going to make it down to LB in August?
GC,

I am disappointed that you are not ending your career the way you desire. Seems that the pandemic adjusted a lot of people's decision making paradigms.

I'm actually getting closer to my dream job, not there yet, but I think I can see the path to get there.

All the wild fires and insane weather are starting to take a toll, but that's pretty uncontrollable.

I might make it up to LB. My dad has never been, he's been to Ming and Burley, I think he would dig Long Beach.

I'll reach out if we decide.

And for the record, I probably feel older.

Hope to see you soon.

The No Wake Zone / Kid crashed his daily Friday..
« on: June 08, 2021, 11:05:41 PM »
So my boy messed up Friday night.

I took my racing experience and we thrashed this weekend to get things rocking...

I thought it was pretty funny, my son thinks I'm a genius... Lol

Before and after pics...

Full disclosure, I have a parts car, but it's red...

Radiator support, headlight, hood, grille, ac condenser, radiator, inner bumper, bumper cover and a horn....

6 hours, six bandaids and three 805's....

The old man still has it.

Yes Gt 1\4 on gauge, both reading on the push pull switch, float senders are 2 years old...... fuel was low but not emptie

Sent from my SM-N960U using SoCal Jet Boats mobile app
Quick test, pull the sender wire off the gauge and power up the dash, see if she goes empty.

I have the wooden dowel that came off an old ski flag to "dip"...

It would be really odd for both tanks to poop out at the same point. Have you checked the valve?

You could always use a bell crank to flip the action too...

I would simply flip the cable mount to the other side of the carb like Mr. Joe says.

Ill take pix this weekend, i can access the fittings on the top of the tank all the way at the back,  just unsure how to get the straws out and replace them

Sent from my SM-N960U using SoCal Jet Boats mobile app
This is lame, but going to ask anyway.

1/4 tank on the gauge? Or did you use a "dipstick"?

You could be chasing a gauge issue...

Hope you are doing well bud.

Hope your doing well.
What have you been working on lately?

Too much at once if I'm being honest.

Been working like a dog.

The houseboat has been taking up the lions share of my free time. It's close to getting wet finally.

Between wild fires, snow, rain and 110° weather, it's been a huge challenge.

Also working on my ski boat, had to put a floor and transom in it.

Getting there. Just exhausted. Lol

Doing very well all things considered, thank you so much!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Need Help with a milkshake
« on: June 06, 2021, 08:23:13 AM »
I was thinking the same thing.  I pulled the risers apart yesterday, found a crack in the gasket on the 2,4,6,8 side.  On the other side, I couldn't get everything apart clean enough to give it a proper inspection.  I'm going to replace the riser gaskets, change the oil once more, put a new PCV in there for good measure, and take it out and see.
I think I would do a leak down test before it's run again.

You might find you have a valve issue  and if it worsens, could take the engine out all together.

Also for safe measure, I would pressure test the cooling side with some air pressure, just plug the incoming and outgoing water lines and put 20psi of air to it. I think I would drain the block completely first.

If for no other reason than piece of mind.

Good luck brother.

So I haven't had a chance to check compression. I did change the oil.  I didn't find any moister in the filter or the rest of the oil so I changed the plugs and figured I'd give it a quick run on the lake.   It got milky pretty quickly.   I ran it to get the temps up a bit. I then noticed it had a creamy film all the way up the breather tube.  Could a bad PCV cause condensation to build? Either that or excessive crankcase pressure causing oily cream to climb the breather tube up towards the air filter.

I would pull the 1,3,5,7 exhaust manifold and have a look see.... Could be something as simple as a failed riser gasket or crack/hole in the exhaust ports near cylinder 1 and 3.

Good luck.

Greetings yall....

Been a minute.

Who's still here?

15
I'm new to this forum and i have an unstoppable passion for my Jet boat... Currently i have a nasty vibration which i think is coming from the drive shaft which is only 6.5" long (hopefully not the motor).  It doesn't have a PTO on the 460, it's mounted directly to the flywheel/crank shaft.  I've replaced the u joints multiple times and i still have a slight mechanical bind of some sort.  I think the yoke is messed up somehow.  I've replaced the thrust bearing and impeller/sleeve already which didn't help.  I've even removed the bowl and impeller to help trouble shoot and eliminate that part of the drive line. I have the splicer kit 1310 on order with the adapter plate for the 460 bolt pattern, but that makes the drive shaft 2" longer at 8.5" total.  How can i support the rear part of the motor now? it was mounted on the bearing block assembly before.  Also I've had a hard time trying to get the motor mounted at the correct angle.  My understanding is that the engine should be about 1 to 2 degrees off not straight on.  With that said, the oil pan drain plug area hits the bottom of the boat.  I've had this boat for about 1.5 years now and I've replaced the stringers, floor and interior last winter.  It ran great for the first month then i noticed a slight vibration which turned really bad really quick.  Any guidance would be appreciated thanks. (Ford 460 big block with a Berkeley 12JE)
Your information is flawed?

The engine should be nearly dead nuts with only a slight parallel offset. ANY difference in final angle will play havoc with harmonics and driveline vibration.
The parallel offset should not net more that a degree of joint deflection, but not less than 1/2 a degree for joint bearing lubrication and dynamic tightening.

« on: August 25, 2019, 10:02:44 PM »
If its a short between the gauge and sender what exactly does that mean? A broken wire? I hate electrical  :banghead:
Grab a length of wire and run it from the sender to the gauge bypassing the existing wire.

Sounds like the existing wire is pinched or shorted to another wire.

Interior / Re: Marine plywood?

Interior question...if im going to resin coat the plywood for my seat bases doni need marine plywood?

Sent from my SM-G955U using SoCal Jet Boats mobile app
No sir. Use CDX.

The difference is that every single ply has the knot holes filled so there are no voids through the whole thickness.

Same exterior glue as CDX.

If you are going to coat it with resin, do a hot coat first, simply thin the resin with MEK or acetone to make it watery. Then do a normal viscosity coat on that. It soaks in much further and lasts forever.

I like to buy sanded one side of I want it to be pretty...

Good luck brother.

Does anyone have a old set of bbc headers? They can  be dented, rusted. Totally something someone would never put back on a boat. Im looking for a pair to run on a test stand. So they might get used 1 or 2 times a year. If so let me know what u got. Thanks steve

Jet Pumps / Re: What impeller ?
« on: January 06, 2019, 08:29:26 AM »
Well... My dream was to run 90..i know Ive probably lost my mind.. Thats what i hear for other half anyway.. Im beginning to realize its not gonna happen with this motor.. Ugh
I like the old school v8 sound/ trying to stay away from buying a weed wacker.
Ill have to search for someone running same boat/bottom and start over i guess.. Know anyone running 85-90 with one... Thanks
90 isn't at all unrealistic. It did however depend on how far you want to run 90.

Touching 90mph and driving for miles at 90mph are two different animals.

My Renegade ran 85mph for a long as you had your foot in the gas, but was a bit sketchy to drive when compared to the aluminum tunnel hull or our deep V cruiser.

If you just want to run it for a half a mile, I think your platform is a good one.

If you look at your dyno sheet you can see where your carburetor held you back.

Put it into a graph and it will be obvious.

The horsepower curve tapers off.
