Something like this from CP Performance makes it pretty easy.

https://www.cpperformance.com/p-13228-terminal-block-style-complete-boat-wiring-harness.aspx

There's others on the interwebs too.
Good luck.

Try measuring the distance of the slotted bracket. The cp performance one is 5" if I remember right.

Wow, never seen that before.
Did you find the other pieces?
I imagine that lobe is toast.
Re-cam it and haul ass?
Probably what I would do.

To me, the flat iron with the slot is the problem.
It has no structural integrity, especially for steering.
Steering cables like to be in the same plane as the steering arm mounting point.
If you disconnect the slotted piece, is the steering cable and wheel centered? (Mines a JC W/ Diverter, and doesn't have any extension for the diverter, and steering wheel is centered and straight)
I've never seen that type of hardware on an E pump, looks super sketchy. Loss of steering is no joke. An adjustment slot shouldn't be anywhere near the steering cable. Double nut everything. Even Nylox nuts.

Trailers / Re: Bow Stop Help!!
« on: September 28, 2021, 08:14:06 AM »
That setup is not what you want for a bow stop.

The winch and bow eye need to be below the roller.
With the existing setup, the boat can go up and over the rollers, and the winch strap will let it happen.

The winch and strap need to be able to hold the boat down to the trailer. This one doesn't do that.

Hope this helps

Jet Pumps / Re: HELP - Jacuzzi Drive Pump - Thrust Bearing/Seal Replacement
« on: September 25, 2021, 12:05:32 AM »
I've only done the jacuzzi wj pump.
If I remember right, the shaft comes out the front, so pump removal is necessary. Looks like the yj has a mechanical seal, the spring one.
Should be pretty straight forward to replace.
Tom @ jet boat performance would know.
Last Mohican here also has a yj (Golden Eagle) pump too maybe he'll chime in.

Hope this helps.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Ignition timing + idle speed
« on: September 24, 2021, 11:45:36 PM »

Dan'l, how did you find out how much total timing it wanted...increase by two degrees and wait for peak RPM to stop increasing, then back it off slightly? Or is there another trick?

It took 2 people.
I had a buddy of mine drive the boat.
I have jump seats next to the motor.
I sat in left side jump seat, had buddy bring it to 3000 rpm. I could see the tach, too.
Told him to keep the same throttle position.
I advanced the dizzy about 300 rpm, before it started going back down.
( No more throttle was used)
Retarded the dizzy a bit, and later checked initial with a timing light.
Left it at 12-13° initial.
Bam. Done.

Dan'l

Edit: going up river and 115° outside.

Looks perfectly normal.
Do you have a gate valve on the pump?

You state water temps are all over the place. What are you seeing?

With just a gate valve adjusted, mines at 130-140°F at cruise. Slightly higher in the no wake zone, maybe 150°F
This is thru logs and snails too.

This is a single pass system, lake temps affect engine temp too.
Black Canyon/Boulder Canyon, below Hoover Dam, is 55°F year round. Mohave gets to the high 80s. The river at Bullhead is consistently 65°.
T°-in/T°-out ~50/60°

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Ignition timing + idle speed
« on: September 22, 2021, 08:56:58 AM »
I have mine idle at 950 ± for slight additional thrust around the docks and trailering. But she's a big girl, so slop counts for skill.

More important is total timing lead, mines at 12° initial, ~33/34° total, using the lightest springs. This was after a lake test to see how much timing lead my combo wanted.

Hope this helps.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Need advice before 460 rebuild
« on: September 22, 2021, 08:46:13 AM »
Holy crap! By your dimensions, and a 3.85 stroke, that's a 496 cube motor.

Lakes only is the Ford big block guru.

The 'dog out of the hole' is likely in the pump. Wear ring to impeller clearance.

My junk, 454 with a 'AA' American Turbine impeller, was night and day difference over a Berk 2A worn impeller (Thanks Tom!)

Your 460, should easily put out 500 hp, about the hp or more to pull that large of a wheel. Mine went to 4950-5K, about 505 hp by the impeller charts. (Thru logs and snails)

Sourcing a std. bore 460 block and camming it accordingly, keeping comprehension at 9.5 or so should be able to get to 500 hp or so. The heads might hold you back some.

What were you able to run as far as rpm with the old set-up?

On dual plane manifolds, I run a 1" spacer, helps with top end. I prefer single plane manifolds for jet applications.

Hope this helps.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Winterizing 455 olds with Berkeley jet
« on: September 10, 2021, 09:02:59 AM »
Best bet- pull the block plugs above the pan rail, as well as all of the manifold hoses.

Or, using the connection between the jet and engine, (and possibly a short section of hose) fill the entire engine, logs and snails with rv antifreeze, until it comes out the exhaust on the transom, roughly 2 gallons. (Pink stiff is far more lake friendly than green car antifreeze)
Spring time, launch fire it up and go.

The No Wake Zone / Re: New Jet boat owner, looking for some advice
« on: September 10, 2021, 08:55:53 AM »
The headers are likely Bassetts, and should have water injection provisions.

Replace the froze up cables.
Jet Boat Performance.

If the 403 is bone stock, it will have lackluster performance, but should make it go.

Check the pump for condition of the impeller.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: New build complete + weird noises?
« on: August 29, 2021, 06:59:58 AM »
#1- Is it a stainless steel impeller? Stainless steel impellers are known for clunking at idle. What's your idle at? You can bump up the idle to 1000 rpm or so and it usually goes away. Any slop in the u-joints would be evident at idle too.

#2- I'd try to isolate it... Look or listen while underway at the pump seal, rear main seal and balancer seal. Easier said than done.

#3- just a wild ass guess- valvetrain.
Inspect closely the push rods, rockers and valve springs.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: PMGR Ford 460 Starter CCW?
« on: August 22, 2021, 11:17:34 PM »
The 460 should be standard rotation, so having a starter beyond the bellhousing should turn the proper direction. Make sense? Anyways, it should be a phone call away to find out.

Jet Pumps / Re: Berkeley 12JG Maintenance
« on: August 19, 2021, 08:32:41 AM »
Remove the set screw on the bowl before SLOWLY greasing, as it could push out the bowl seal.

The zirk on the pump is for the bearing, a few pump of grease is all it needs. Over greasing is not good either.

Drive lines usually have zirk fittings, although some don't.

Packing seal should drip once per minute or so, probably best adjusted at the lake/river. This is what cools the packing and shaft.

Service intervals are about 50 hours or yearly/seasonally.

Check the loader or rock grate too.
Check the steering and diverter pins too, as well as the steering and diverter linkage.

Jet Pumps / Re: Intake machining question
« on: August 13, 2021, 03:41:40 PM »
Mr. Flusher walked me through it.
If I remember right, it was machined at 2° (smaller and the tail end)
The shoe is relieved at the rear for the ride plate. The ride plate angle is determined by the rear adjustment, underneath the bowl at the steering adapter. (Cradle to ride plate)

I'll look through my notes to double check the degree of machining.

Exposed engine? Just a run of the mill GM 1 wire or even a 3 wire alternator.

Covered engine- a GM marine unit, pretty easy to source, ebay, Amazon, CP performance, jegs or summit.

Your brackets may need some adjustments, should be fairly easy.
