Got it polished back up an together for the season today...

This was from 'Your Mom' back a few years ago, in "what did you do to your boat today thread", page 150, about half way down.

Has the current loader been tuned to your pump/boat? That's where I'd start.

Speedway has a vacuum advance block off plate for GM HEI distributors. Waaayyy more accurate spark than a rubber diaphragm trying to hold things steady.

As far as jets, if I remember right, my 750 VS had 74's in the front, and a 6.5 PV. And lightest spring in the secondary diaphragm.
(454, 9:1, Vic Jr. manifold, .575"/.575", 230?/234? roller, 750 vs, logs and snails)

I believe Jet boat Performance has a conversion to a mixed flow pump.

Spoke to Dooley today and they are 1056 for there pan

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats

Mines a Gen V, (1pc rear main) and has been sitting since 2005. If yours is a Gen V, I might part with it.

Mine has a Dooley pan, but mines not a Stroker motor. Jet boat performance would be my choice.

« on: May 17, 2022, 09:32:55 AM »
Mine showed 4500 rpm, and was at 55, with 3 aboard. (19' Saguaro, SBC)
Your in the ballpark.
Tach could be slightly off.
Gps could be slow.

Run it.

I used a 4x4 block of wood in the exhaust and a floor jack to add a little clearance, but alas, mine were SBC, sprint car headers, and were almost completely shot. It worked for the next several seasons.

Jet boat headers are approx 5* down, as as manufactured, and v-drive are approx 5* up as manufactured, a difference of 10* (approx), just an FYI.

Jet Pumps / Re: Bad bearings?
« on: May 08, 2022, 12:37:07 PM »
Check how the new bearing fits into the bearing housing before it's pressed on the shaft.

The bolts holding the housing in are 'mostly' for clamping the epoxy in place.

Bowl looks serviceable yet. But wouldn't hurt to clean up the front side bowl veins.

Rayson Craft.
Why?
Go racing.

Both are solid hulls.
Current engines would would make a difference.

Topock / Laughlin / Re: Laughlin to Pirates cove

Park Moabi, (pirates cove) river mile 234.9

Laughlin, Nv, river mile 274.0

It's just shy of 40 miles one way.
I'm not sure if needles Marina has fuel yet. Avi was still closed last I heard.
Topock used to have fuel. Haven't been in a while.

Good luck on running the river.

Bearing is definitely toast.
2A should have plenty out of the hole.
Inducer on a JE? I don't have any idea.
JBP or Cyclone Marine would know

Jet Pumps / Re: Bad bearings?

Where to start, hmmmm.

A mostly stock 460, with an A impeller should be at ~4800.

You'll drop approx 300 rpm with a 2A.

A pump sees actual (uncorrected) HP, not corrected HP.

For reference, a boat I own, had a 460, A impeller, and a top speed of 52, previous owner, gps'd. I bought the boat less motor, and bolted in a 325 hp SBC, ran 55 with 3 aboard, and 57 by my self, same pump.

My big block boat, with an American Turbine AA impeller, turned 4950-5000 rpm, and right at 500 HP. (And only 57 mph up river)

A loose pump will turn more rpm, ~200 or so, maybe more.

If you're set on a 2A, you'll probably want more horsepower. 👍

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the madness.

Broken boats matter.

Some assembly required.
Batteries not included.
Your milage may vary.
Bikini tops not required.

Good luck on your builds.

Jet Pumps / Re: Weld repair dominator cast aluminum impeller?
« on: March 29, 2022, 04:33:18 PM »
Impellers are pretty cheap, and I wouldn't trust a weld on something spinning 5,000 rpm.
A few used ones come up from time to time. Or hit up Jet boat performance for a used one?

Just might be enough HP.

Trailers / Re: Chances a bass boat trailer fits a 18ft jet boat?
« on: March 14, 2022, 08:48:46 AM »
That one will have to be completely reworked. Vertical 2x6's probably aren't doing you any favors. If you have the ability to relocate the bunks, it looks like a stout trailer.

Trailers / Re: Chances a bass boat trailer fits a 18ft jet boat?
« on: March 12, 2022, 08:08:19 AM »
I'd say a pretty good chance.
If not, you can always fudge the bunks over a bit to get it to fit. Worst case scenario, moving the bunk brackets.
The axle placement might be too far rearward for a jet that has a big block in it., But that's easy to remedy too.

Just fyi, my Miller fits nearly perfectly on a day cruiser trailer, no bunks were modified to fit.

That's a big girl.
Crusader boats was in Artesia or Cerritos on Valley Way, I think.
My cousin had an 18' tunnel hull at one time. Solid hull, from what I could tell

Projects / Re: Jet drive swap
« on: March 04, 2022, 06:55:21 AM »
Before you do a berk swap, I'd tear into the Jacuzzi WJ and freshen it up. And see what's in there.

The WJ pump was the first pump too break 100 mph, way back in 1970 (or '71). A nearly stock WJ pump could handle 1500 hp (Hurry'Round Hondo)

Looks like you already have a diverter,
Just need a loader, shoe, and ride plate.

Otherwise, the dimensions of a berk are slightly larger than a WJ intake housing, and is a pretty straightforward swap, assuming you can set the intake. If doing the swap, now would be a good time to look into a set back pump, I don't know if that hull would benefit from a set back.
BTW, what hull mfg is it?

Just my $0.02

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Cam Shaft Duration @.050 ?
« on: February 16, 2022, 08:10:56 AM »
I used an extreme marine comp cam, flat tappet, .575/.578 lift, 254?/264? at .050", with injected headers, without any drama.
Water valve is at the driver's seat.(Water wide open at the driver's seat wasn't enough to bother it at idle, either, and was gate valved at the pump too.)
