I could do august 13 sat and make it a day trip

I would be limited to a day trip as well. It's 235 miles from my home so I'll have to pass. You guys have a good time though , sounds like a hell of a good time.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Olds 455 oil pressure issue?
« on: July 23, 2016, 08:05:11 PM »
Im new to jet boats but not new to the olds 350/455. I have read everything here about the oiling issues so ive been really careful with my new boat and its BBO. My question is this...when will i experieince a drop in oil pressure? and at what pressure am i not safe? Ive ran the boat as hard as itll go and watched the gauge like a hawk and its never dropped below 40. I dont have my tach hooked up but I can say if the water is smooth ive got my foot all the way down and use the diverter to trim it down right until it stops porpousing...im not saying im trying to blow it but I just cant seem to find the problems that people talk about on the forum?
You said your motor never drops below 40. That's great it's possible you've had some oil restrictions done to the motor. Pushrod restrictors , Cam Bearing restrictors, lifter bore restrictors , head and engine deck modifications and maybe some drain back lines.

If you run it that hard like you say and never noticed any fluctuating oil pressure then your good. Yes that's been said Oldsmobiles don't like to run much over 4900 RPM for long periods.

i am fixing my tach tonight....i was at the lake and ran next to a boat today and he said we were at 45...i had a little pedal left so im pretty sure ive got a 50mph boat on my hands....little bummed...ok now what...BBC...or can you get some oomphy poos outta they olds in a boat?
That Oldsmobile can be made to run plenty fast. Just depends how much money you have and how fast you want to go. Chevy is the same way.

So I rebuilt my 455 olds and got it back in the boat, but around 4k rpm it sputters.  It has a brand new edelbrock 750, all new valves, valve guides, and springs, offy tunnel ram, newer holley fuel pump, new coil, mallory single point distributor, brand new autolite platinum spark plugs.  Any help would be appreciated
I hope all this advice answers your questions.

Welcome to The Forum Billy machete. You should get your tachometer fixed. You'll notice a drop in oil pressure when your engine bearings start going South. Good luck and until that happens have fun with it.

Which carburetor?

Your fuel test is worthless (sorry).

What fuel pump?

When you say sputters,  how? Carburetor,  exhaust?

Just misses?

What exhaust?

How are you cooling it?

Compression test?

Timing test is worthless too... What is the timing at over 2,500rpm?

Vacuum advance?

Why points?

How much voltage on the coil with the engine running?  What coil? ....

Sorry. Had to.

GT

I'm just catching up on this thread.
GT Jets, I hope you're having your BP issues checked by a medical professional. If not, I am glad, disregard this.

I may have gone a little over the top,  but I was trying eat my lunch and realised I forgot a fork,  napkin and my iced tea,  I  had a salad and the dressing decided to somehow get on my pants.

Lol

Another thing to add.

My grandfather always said "brand new" is just another way of saying "unproven".

You have no idea how awesome that statement is until you think about it for a minute.

Lol

Picked up the boat from Quicksilver arts last night had him put some CF numbers on it with a little bit of pinstriping on the scoop

Your green boat reminds me of one I saw in Hot Boats magazine. The name of that boat was "Money Sucker". He had inlaid hundred dollar bills in the very back on the floor. It was gorgeous just like yours, gorgeous.

So I had issues at the river. Got home , I flooded the back /bilge with water. Took off the pump and bellows. Got some leaks if any have recommendations.

Those gaskets around your cables looks suspect to me. People getting in and out of the boat wet. Slouched over the back maybe???

If you can't find anything wrong with what your Mom States:

Disconnect the electric pump all together. Then see how it runs with just a good mechanical pump.
So many good high quality, high gpm mechanical pumps available from both Mondello sites now , I question the need for electric.
Just my 2 cents however. Nice-looking float. And welcome to the site.
