Random Boat Parts For Sale / Re: GC's Moving Sale

Did u say 440 dodge stuff too 😳

Noooo       I have been a Mopar guy since birth and have always had a dream of building a jet boat with the same kind of 472 stroker motor that I have run in my cars (550hp 575 tq).   The mounts and exhaust are cherry and $$$ but cash makes people do strange things.   Make me an offer, I gotta go up to Hesperia soon anyway.   Also understand if you ever get this built, I want a ride or 10.

Sorry no puke tank.

Typical foot throttle, but I can't remember if it pushes or pulls. Good shape, no rust.
I will try to get pics up tomorrow night if I survive tonight's party.

Random Boat Parts For Sale / GC's Moving Sale
« on: September 07, 2016, 06:38:47 AM »
After 20 years in the same place, I now find myself having to move across town.  I have collected a few things for "projects" along the way that I now just want to get rid of instead of moving them.  Pics will follow when I can get them out of my wife's camera (which may have just gone to Mexico to cover some off road race).

Olds 455 Logs and snails, polished    $100

Olds 455 windage tray w/ bolts         $40

Ford 460 MSD                                  $100

Ford 460 longbolt logs/snails  UGLY    Best offer

460 valve covers w/ some outside rust    $25

stringer mount foot throttle                 $25

460 PTO  ugly                                     $20

More details to follow at some point.   Still trying to decide if I'm selling a Holley 850 and my stash of Chrysler jetboat stuff.

Nice Mallory dizzy with Accel wires and looms  (forgot if it is Olds or Ford)  $100

All items are in the I.E. and I would rather not try to ship most of this stuff.   Step right up, Operators are standing by.

SoCal Lakes / Re: So cal lakes???

Perris feels really small at anything over 35 mph and smooth water is almost non-existent.  If you look at a map three fourths of the lake is a 5 mph zone.  Plus much of that area is only about 5 ft. deep.

I have an Olds windage tray with bolts if you want an easy painless way to minimize oil drag on the crank.  $40 + the ride.

Tips & Tricks for an Olds?   There are a ton.  Lately there are a few guys here who seem to be having success running these engines.  Use the search feature and find the article that Timm wrote years ago, as it will give you more tips than you can use, but more importantly it discusses how to find the right machine shop.  Hopefully someone has it easily found and can post a link for you.
Long story short is that these engines were never meant for high sustained rpms.  They can't return the oil to the pan fast enough and starve the bottom end.  There are several ways to fix that luckily.   Good luck with it, and be careful as there are a lot of shady builders in the high dez.

My best advice is to get your money back.   Selling that boat will be tough as it is not a brand that many have heard of, and isnt "flashy" enough to make up for that.  Plus you are going to spend every bit of $6000 rebuilding that 455 properly.   If you take shortcuts on either the rebuilds, the parts quality, or the break in, and you will have to do it again.
Sorry, but you asked.

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Re: D3ve-A2A heads for sale
« on: August 31, 2016, 11:20:09 AM »
I live in Redlands but I work M-F in Corona so I cover quite a bit of distance most days.   Phelan isn't too far at all.  However the last two sets of heads I have bought have both been condemned by the machine shop for cracks.  The second set I got from a member here who promptly dropped out of sight.
You sure these are solid?   What happened to the motor?

I will PM you my phone number and let's see if we can work something out.

Hey sounds like a deal to me. I'm in Rialto, and can pick it up tomorrow if it's still available. What you drinking?

Sorry I'm just getting back on here.   Not sure of my schedule after work tomorrow and Tuesday.  It might work.  I'll text you tomrrow when I know where I am going to be and when.

Boat Showcase / Re: 1975 Wriedt Montara
« on: August 27, 2016, 08:58:44 PM »
Thanks.  I bought it from a marine detailer in Havasu and it was beautiful when I first got it over 10 years ago.  Having it sit outside for so long has not been good to it but I am literally moving to a new house this weekend and  so soon it will at least get a large carport to stay under and a new cover has been ordered.  The interior is OK but the floor is soft and the engine cover broke so getting across it and in and out of boat is difficult now.  It has a brand new roller cammed Olds 455 but it isn't enough to pull up my 280 lbs on a single ski so I am not all that thrilled with it.  I want to teach my kids to ski but they are almost as big as me now.   I was set to pull the trigger on a Eliminator Mojave with a 625 horse BBC when this house deal got in the way.  My buddy ended up buying it instead and maybe we will finally get to a gathering of the SCJB tribe before 2017.

With the right power these boats are just perfect.  They are sturdy, look good and unique, they have a ton of storage and room to party!   They allow you to get out of the sun and wind if you want, we have all slept in it many times.  The only thing not to like is they are kind of big and clumsy when you are trying to load them onto the trailer.  Wind and current really push them around and often you are in pretty deep because of the extra length.   Hope you enjoy the hell out of yours.    Sorry for the thread hijack.

Anybody need a spare for a boat trailer or an old school muscle car?

I have one (1) BFG T/A  235/60-14 on a rim that was a boat trailer spare for a boat that never got assembled  It has zero miles on it and has been sitting in a dark garage for appx. 4 years.   It is in a garage in Redlands now but will be going to the Redlands dump next weekend if none of you pick it up.   I drive to Corona every day if you live somewhere in between I might even deliver it for an additional beer.   Please don't insult me with offers of Budweiser, Corona, anything Belgian or with lime in it.

Oh yeah I'll throw in the wheel it is mounted on too, because, well I don't have the boat anymore or a tire machine.

Anybody else drinking tonight?

Remember that boats mount the engine backwards from a car, so the pickup and pan need to be properly matched to each other, and to a "backwards" orientation for the sump.  10 may be desirable but also likely overkill for your cruiser application.  Measure carefully to see if you are going to have clearance with them Ford mounted in place.

Also I don't think you will be able to run OT exhaust as they will not be tall enough to clear the back or your boat.  And if you did you will have to ditch the engine cover completely.

I lost the pic of the icebox somewhere here in my computer.  It occupies the area in front of the front passenger's seat and goes nearly from floor to ceiling.  Is the underside of your deck covered in faux fur and the sides of the hull in shag carpet?   All the berth on this tub needs is a disco ball.   O0

Some pics, old and new . . .

No decent pics really.  It looks nust like yours except no white inside the red and a small yellow highlighting border between the red and white.  Interior is a buckskin tan, 2 Captain's chairs and a bench across the back.  I have the same bow rail too and a teak swim step over the Berkley.   My icebox is hammered and I have talked to Rick @ Islanders about cutting the entire dash out and moving it forward to open up the passenger area more.  With a wraparound bench that boat could seat 6-7 people and still have room for the bed downstairs.

With the diverter it rode like a much smaller hull.  The bottom is fairly flat and doesn't go thru chop as well as I would have expected for a 23'r.   It does seem very solid and well built, there is no flex in the deck even with my bulk on it.  My float has a bench and a full width engine cover which allows for more comfortable seating and the wife to work on her tan.
My only complaint is that a 455 will never have the power to move itself out of the hole like a skier needs.  The only other Montara I have ever seen on the water had a 720 hp Pontiac in the bay.  Not surprisingly,  his hotshot was a bit different than mine.  Good luck with the BBF build.  I am thinking about doing the same thing.

I have a set of the long bolt style. They are ugly but serviceable,  but no bolts.  Shipping would kill you but if you could arrange a local pick up they are yours for FREE cuz you're now rocking the baddest Mo Fo on the water.  Love me some Montara.

A week from now I will sell them to anybody for $75.00.   Sold the boat and the motor that I was saving them for.

I would love to find a good home for my station wagon.  PM me a phone number or email and I can send some pics.  Boat is in Redlands if you want to look at it.   23 ft. Wreidt Montana with a new 455 done right.   Im sure we could agree on a price under $5800.  Cash makes people do crazy things.5

The No Wake Zone / HELP Residential Electrician needed

I have 3 different homes that need a variety of electrical issues addressed.  1 50 yr old tract home in Corona and another in Redlands.  Also need a ton of things cleaned up in an old Victorian in Redlands.  If there are any honest hardworking electricians looking for work, I think I could keep you buys for a while.
Referrals and/or recommendations are always welcome.
I need this work done ASAP so don't be shy.  I really don't want to just pick a name out of the phonebook.  Oh crap that just dated me didn't it?   Operators are standing by  951.454.1934

Fok I'm getting old.   I put my 70 Super Bee into storage nearly 30 years ago now.   Always told myself that when my Dad passed away I would use some of his estate to build me a lill something to whet a middle age crisis.  But times change and I built a monster moto machine instead.  She went 1-1 at the World Championships in April right out of the box.
Sorry for the thread jack.

Doesn't look like an RB from the pic but hard to tell.  The valve covers look to be very close to the intake flange, where the RB's have a bit of space due to longer stroke.  Easiest motor in the world to stroke on the cheap.   Tons of possibilities here along with good info  http://www.440source.com/  I have a few contacts if you need help with a build, but even stock parts can be used to slap a 440 crank in a 383 block and end up with bigger, stronger and faster.

Jet Pumps / Re: Spinning out when getting up around 40-45ish
« on: June 19, 2016, 03:51:35 PM »
The JE pumps came stock with a "cavitation plate" which in a JE is often mistakenly called a "ride plate". They are MANDATORY on the JE. Since yours is missing, I would start by acquiring and installing the stock cavitation plate and rechecking operation.

This is the correct answer.  Frankly I am surprised you ever spun it out a second time or a third even?   I would have parked that boat right then and there.

The No Wake Zone / Re: New to the jet boat scene

There are so many things to look for when buying a boat, but insisting on a test ride goes a long way for someone who doesn't know much about boats.  If the seller is reluctant to do that for say $50-100 I'd pass.  Do all the gauges work?  Often some will and some won't.  Does the battery sound strong, and is there a second battery if it comes with a big stereo?  If it has a floor is it soft anywhere (be sure you check).  Check any stringers you can see (be careful for violent reaction when you break out a small hammer LOL)   Do the plugs, wires, alum manifolds look crusty?  Any signs of leaks around the motor?
Don't forget the trailer inspection.  Very important to check the date codes on the tires.  Trailer tires are frequently 10 years old and don't show it but still remain sketchy in my book.  Use it as leverage on the price.  A trailer rehab can run $1k easy.  If there is an old crusty nylon strap or rope instead of cable holding the front of your boat down, I'd damn sure replace that too.  Trailer failures can be ugly as hell, and people can die.  Don't be that guy.  The worst thing that happens when your boat fails is that you float back to camp.
Depending where you are located, I'm sure there are a few good folks around here who would be glad to come along and give you a second set of eyes on a potential purchase.  And there are so many open bows for sale right now that I'm sure you can find one in your price range.

Paul thanks for the reply, but I didn't mean 600 inches.  I meant to say 600 ponies.  When I said stroker I meant something in the 500-540 cu. in. range.  I don't really know Ford combo's that well.  It seems a 513 seems to be popular.   I already have a stout shortblock 460 that is just short one piston, but I can't get any real info on compression or bore size as it is in storage out of state at the moment.  I got some heads in a seperate deal on the cheap when the machine shop condemned my first set for multiple cracks.  This project got put on the back burner some years ago, but now I am thinking about putting it together if for no other reason than to sell it and free up some space in a buddy's garage.
