The No Wake Zone / Oil change advice needed
« on: June 23, 2007, 12:09:07 PM »
I need to change the oil in my 455 and it looks darn near impossible to do. Does anyone make some kind of a suction device or am I going to have to lift the whole motor out. No wonder the oil looks black as hell. Does anyone know any marine repair places in the I.E. that they would recommend? Thanks

I can't believe that this thread has gone on this long. If anyone still remembers the question and is still interested I am a high school teacher. More importantly in the words of the illustrious Alice Cooper "School's out for summer..."

Why do women ask your opinion and then tell you that you are wrong?

Two suggestions:

1) Stop hitting reverse so hard and blowing water up over the transom
2) Cover your boat when it rains

What I learned is that I don't need no stinking jackplate cuz I will never own a whacka. Oil slingers make great chain saws and blenders, but in boats JETS ROCK.

True story . . . back in the late 80's for one of my final classes at CSUFullerton I got an internship at HotBoat. I always dreamed of working for Dirt Bike or MXA but this was as close as I was going to get. First they told me to write up a review of a hydraulic jack plate. WTF is that I say. Here's the brochure on it, that's all you need they tell me. OK next thing you know I turn it into 3 pages of technical sounding BS and it goes to print as gospel. Then they tell me to review a bunch of different parasails. Cool lets go to Mead or Mojave and check em out. Oooh nooo no money for that they say, just call the mfg's and get some company PR materials and work your magic like you did w/ the jack plate. So again it looks like gospel in the mag but I never even got to touch one of em. I made em all sound like the shizzle but I didn't know sh*t from shine.  Hey maybe I ruined Hot Boat.  Naw...

Some real nice peeps working there b4 they moved to BevHills tho.

Hot Boat magazine is like reading Motor Trend. They never have anything bad to say about anything. Every year they hand out "awards" and they must have 20 catagories so everyone can be the best at sumthing. It has really gone down hill since Lary Flynt of Hustler fame bought it. Waste of friggin paper if you want truthful testing but the photography is pretty good. They used to work out of a little hole in the wall in Corona by the dog pound but now they are based in Bev Hills and seem to be bucks up. Turning rant off now. Boy do I feel better.

sOrry drunk posting. When ducks walk on water it way too shallow. The big bend between Water Wheel and Red Rooster watch out the ducks will walk on the water cuz its only 6 inches deep. Don'task me how I know.

I dunno, when people advertise they want traffic to the "store."  I saw a lot of peeps asking, whineing, bitching about stickers. Think of the noise people would make if they heard there was free beer and that they didn't get theirs. Word would really spread fast if peeps heard that there was free beer somewhere. What's that? Oh somebody has to actually buy the beer to then give it away. Ummm nevermind.

No worries . . . we'll just keep it a secret. Hey I had a thought, how about free beer instead of stickers to members. That should pump up membership a bit doncha think?

I like the site as it is easy to navigate (important after several margaritas) and I sense there is a lot of knowledge beneath the heavy layer of sarcasm and wit. It does seem a bit slow at times considering 500 members. I love the fact that it doesn't need cookies loaded to my computer to work like many of the other sites. Roost on!

The No Wake Zone / Re: xm radio
« on: May 10, 2007, 09:04:36 PM »
I have had XM for 2 yrs and I like it alot. Reception is no better or worse than many "regular" stations although sometimes it cuts out where you wouldn't think it would like going down 5 or 99 in central Cali - no bridges mountains or trees. I am hooked on the Boneyard  and Fungus. It is a shame that mainstream radio has to have so many commercials and play such crap. The Boneyard is a lot like KNAC used to be with the occasional DJ that really has some interesting comments at times. Fungus is mostly punk and rockabilly, good stuff to break the monatony of long commutes.

Jet Pumps / Squealing like a little girl
« on: May 02, 2007, 11:32:44 AM »
Often but not everytime when I start my boat I get a loud high pitched squeal that sounds like it is coming from my Berkley pump. Anyone have any clues as too what I should be looking for. I don't think I have any U-joints on this boat so it probably isn't that. Help!
