Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: dual carb fuel????
« on: August 10, 2009, 04:36:18 PM »
The fuel pump is a Holley blue electric. pressure is set at 8psi which by reading info on the Holley web site is too high they it should be at 6psi. I just order the rebuild kits today. I'm gonna try blocking off the second port, lowering the fuel pressure down to six (I think the pressure was holding the needle valves wide open)... I'm very stumped about the bogging at WOT, its only the last 10-15% of throttle it bogs like its flooding, i know its running real rich the plugs are black and the pipes have a lot of black soot. Don't have a clue as to it idling good and it runs like a bat outta hell till it hits WOT then it bogs out and I have to back out of it.... Gps at 66mph rite before the bog :banghead: :banghead:

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / dual carb fuel????
« on: August 10, 2009, 03:28:43 PM »
Ok so I've been having issues with the bbc 454 running toooo rich, couldn't get the floats to set right, lots of carbon build up. Then today I'm looking on line for rebuild kits to give the carbs a fresh start ;D, and I noticed something very different about my Holley 1850 600cfm carbs--- they have two fuel inlets, so I keep looking on line and everyone else is running them with single inlets..... My question is has anyone seen this before??? and might this be causing my high rpm bogging???? feels like the motor is flooding at WOT... here's some pix... go back to single inlet and a fresh rebuild kit or????

We were able to GPS the boat yesterday and it hit 66mph before it started bogging. Not to bad considering the carbs keep flooding ( reason for the bogging) at WOT (rebuilding this week) and no place diverter... its coming this winter or whenever I find a good deal. State worker on furloughs gotta save every penny :'(

i hate wiring myself :banghead:.... hope you can get out there one of these weekends ... our boat will be down for a couple of weeks, carb issues, gonna rebuild both of them (floats are bad= dumping fuel at the top end and running supper rich) and gotta pull one of the tanks and replace the pickup tube.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / fuel tank pick up????
« on: August 06, 2009, 06:10:38 PM »
:banghead: :banghead:  OK here is my problem. 76' Tahiti has twin aluminum gas tanks. I can only  get fuel to come out of one tank ??? removed the shut off valve and and blew thur the line, no clog the strange thing is the tank is almost full and i couldn't here any bubbles just a the air going thur. I tried the other tank which is almost empty and i could hear bubbles :screwy: has any one ever heard of a pickup tube breaking off in the tank or should I grab a helmet and wait for the short bus...... Damn I don't really want to take the tank out its glassed in at the ends :(

We had a good first trip out in the new boat, also first time in the slough which was super nice. Good place for jets and flats (hot rod type boats). Met some real good people out there. Only 4-5 boats on the water so it was super flat all day.......... found a few small issues with the boat that need to be worked out like the crap ass wiring  :banghead: and fuel pressure  but nothing too big....

here's a few pix
