Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Stiff Pistons
« on: August 30, 2010, 10:08:05 pm »
They are pressed pins.  The 2 that are a little stiff had rust in the cylinder and were hard to get out and causr the engine to lock up after sitting it would not crank.  So I should replace the pins just to play it safe.

I am rebuilding the 454 in my jet boat and its bored out 30 over and does not have too many hours on  the engine.  I noticed when I took the pistons out on 3 of them when you move the rod on the bushing in the piston it feels a little stiff.  Is this normal cause the others seem too move freely.  Anyone have any thoughts or experiance with this?

I know from the years I worked at Sea Ray boats in Phoenix and with my own projects that the boat builders did not use HIN numbers till 73 and after.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Which cam?
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:48:37 pm »
Thanks everyone for the advice.  I did see the comp marine cams and was thinking of the 280 marine and getting the whole kit.  I am just wanting something mild over stock and new to the jet boat thing but always been an lover of them.  I dont have but the one pic of the Horizon and will post more as it comes along.  I know some might think Horizons are ugly but I love its classic look and there aint many around.  Thanks for the welcome and looking forward to a long time here.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Which cam?

I am freshing up mostly stock 454, flat tops, not bored, holley 750 carb and aftermarket intake.  I want a good cam for that cam sound at idle and good performance. any suggestions?  I had a crane 268 in my small block Chevelle and thought it could be slighty more.
