Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Oil type
« on: August 12, 2011, 05:15:14 PM »
What kind of oil are you guys running in your 460s? I had no clue what was in my boat before, and i swapped it to some Mercury 25W-40, but I had to swap my heads and im going to have to change it again.  Im just wondering if anyone has a preference of what kind of oil to run.  My motor is mostly stock with a mild cam in it. Thanks

I run Royal Purple 20/50 synthetic, and a bottle of Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer.

Thanks. What's the ramp that everybody uses? I'm going to try and come to this one, haven't seen you foos in a while  >:D

It's at Big River Community Park, right next to the BR Inn. Get your ass down river for this one...

Pdub- we're usually on the water by 10/11 there's a cove up past the bridge we seem to spend a lot of time in

so as some of you know, i had to move recently on a real short notice. its still biting me in the ass financially. making this trip is looking very grim for me. I am still trying to get things settled here and will know for sure weather I can make it.

i have a room reserved. I want to throw it up for grabs and I will find a floor to crash on. Is anyone still looking for a room at the Big River Inn for this weekend? This would help cut some of the weekends costs down.

The other dilemma:

i got the parts to put the southwind back together and bring it, or i can bring the race boat. (its ready to roll)

if i bring the race boat, i gotta buy a barrel of go-juice for it. Here in town, I am looking at like 10/gal for 110oct...and then im limited to how far i can go as it only has a 7 gallon tank. I can carry or have someone carry some fuel jugs for me....but still, it will be a PITA.

the southwind burned up a bearing on the last trip out and it just needs to be assembled and drop the motor back in it...but i have had ZERO luck with that boat for some time now.

So which should i bring? bust my ass and bring the southwind just to probably take a shit on me again? or bring the faster boat and have some fun?

i know my instinct says dont go blow a shitload of money on gas for the race boat, but then the irresponsible side of me says i wanna do it anyways

Bring the 888 & have some fun, or leave em both home & ride with me. Little Towning is only gonna turn 21 once!

Hey all you Big River guys and gals, I had a thought ( I know dangerous ) I was wondering if anybody might
be up for a morning blast up the strip and maybe breakfast at Roadrunners or Foxes Saturday morning ???
A bunch of jet boats on the strip early would be pretty cool, then back to Big River, just a thought.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Lean is MEAN

What caused it to go so lean?

A number of small things added up to one big lean out. Timing was off (dizzy has since been rebuilt) giving me false timing, had waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much in it. Carb had shit in the needle & seat, didn't allow full flow at higher rpm, throw in team Yellow Belly and you get the idea.

Block & head are fine, looks like I dodged a bullet this time. Just picked up my heads from the machine shop, nice 5 angle valve job, a little milling work and we're back in business. Combustion chambers are now 100cc

This is what happens with a combo of too much timing, sub standard gas & a loose nut @ the wheel...

My vote, especially for the camping aspect of it would be Buena Vista. http://www.co.kern.ca.us/parks/buena-vista.asp Kick ass camping right on the water, by September the idiots will have gone back to their worlds and the water cops will be re-deployed.

get the airgap.

Ok jackass, that's fine and fukcing dandy for a street/car motor where you actually run the damn thing under 2000 rpm. Too bad this is jet boat world, low rpms are not very common, at least my boat doesn't see much time below about 3500. I'm suggesting this intake because that's what works. Get ahold of yourself young un, you got a lot to learn.

Jet Pumps / Re: before i break it
« on: July 29, 2011, 01:46:41 PM »
Before you run the pump, in the water (preferably) or on the hose here's what I'd do:

1. Grease the shaft bearing, that's the zerk fitting right near the ID tag, like any other seal just pump grease in until you feel slight resistance, you don't want to blow it out.
2. On the bowl there are to plugs, 10 & 2 oclock, remove both of the plugs, add 90wt gear oil to one of the holes until you see clean, clear gear oil come out of the other one.

Looks like a Berkeley pump to me, good looking set up.

The 6 is a good motor & they can make some decent power with the right parts & love. Your achilles heal is the cruise-o-matic trans, they're not known for longevity & you'll play hell finding a rebuilder. The early C-4 is a pretty simple swap, let me know if you need anything, help, parts, etc.
