I bought this as a bare hull and trailer late summer 2016. The hull, transom and full length stringers are very solid and in great shape, no rot anywhere. There are some minor stress cracks as can be expected for a 50 year old boat. Story goes this was ordered new factory built as a complete jet setup with a 428 ford and spent most of its life in Oklahoma City, original owners are reported to be the Gaylord Family that owns the newspaper in OKC, also the same family that owns The Nashville Network and a few others. I have no documentation to back this up, just the story i got from the guy i bought the boat from. The trailer does have a tag where it was made at a Welding and radiator shop in OKC in 68'. Boat was originally red and gold metal flake, but it sat outside for quite a few years before i got it so the gel coat will need to be redone or the boat will need to be painted, i was planning on a plum crazy purple and white paint scheme and a purple grey and white interior.
It was missing the interior and engine when i got it, it has the original Berkeley split bowl pump, and i have an HTP straight snoot to add to it and a good used stainless steel impeller. Will need new reverse cable and the pump itself will need to be rebuilt. I have all new Auto Meter Pro Comp Silver Marine Gauges for it, new bucket seat shells and i have a polished aluminum grant steering wheel for it, but will need the adapter for it.
I have a 68' 396 BBC bare block, milodon 4 bolt spayed ductile iron main caps, all ARP fasteners for complete engine with main and head studs. Childs & Albert 4340 forged I-beam rods with new ARP 7/16 bolts and bushings, GM factory 6223 forged crank that is brand new in the GM box, i do not have any pistons as Ive been wanting to order a set of Pro-Tru from Wiseco, but its a new part number and they haven't started making them yet, i wanted to keep it at a 4.125 bore. i have new King rod, main and cam bearings, milodon brass freeze plug kit, milodon jet boat 10qt oil pan in good used condition, will need the oil pump and pickup. I have glenwood cast aluminum 4pt mount plates and the front plate has the timing cover as part of it. These plates line up with the original mounting feet bolted to the stringers. I have a set of Lunati Signature Series Hyd Roller lifters, a set of stock length comp hardened pushrods, Lunati aluminum roller rockers and ARP rocker studs, Lunati dual spring kit with steel retainers good to .650 lift. Heads are Edelbrock aluminum performer RPM 100CC, bought as bare castings so will need the valve job done, have edelbrock 2.19 intake and 1.89 iconel exhaust valves, mr gasket MLS .040 head gaskets, Weiand Track Warrior 4150 single plane intake and a quick fuel 750CFM carb setup for a blow thru S/C or Turbo. I also have a set of used over transom headers, alittle rusty but cleaned up and coated they are good as new, no water lines. I do not have a cam, timing set or front balancer. I have a complete mallory ignition with a new comp 9000 distributor and slightly used CT Pro ignition box and coil, no plug wires or plugs. I also have a Holley electric fuel pump, filter and regulator. Boat has the original fiberglass tanks, but i planned to cut them out and have two 12 gal aluminum tanks to replace them.
I also have a D1 procharger setup i was going to put on it, willing to sell with or without the blower. On the trailer i have installed a set of freshly powdercoated a dark grey Mickey Thompson Medallion aluminum wheels 14x7 and i have a set of chrome center caps that are not installed and new Carlisle radial tires in 205/75. Boat was pulled from Houston Texas to Michigan on the new tires. Trailer is in decent shape but needs paint and new lights/wiring. the original lights have been bypassed with an added set, it also has surge brakes that need to be fixed or converted to electric. Trailer pulls great down the highway.
I moved from Texas to Michigan back in October, and with the bigger lakes up here id like to have a bigger boat that is more family friendly and that i can get more use out of, so i found a great deal on a 78 Wellcraft Scarab 30' that had twin 454's that have been pulled and the boat is original and super solid and in great shape for a deal to good to pass up. My plan is to build a couple of LQ4 6.0 LS engines with LSA heads and supercharger with LS9 cam and should be able to make ~600 at the crank which should make the 30' Scarab move along pretty good.
I'm going to say that id like to sell this as a whole with the engine and with or without the procharger. The engine needs machine work and assembled and your cam of choice depending on if your gonna go forced induction or N/A. I'm gonna say im thinking around 6-6500 with the engine but without the procharger. I'm willing to negotiate and also willing to help with delivery anywhere in the lower 48.
More pics of the hull can be seen here, will work on getting pics of the engine and engine parts uploaded, everything for the engine is new except the block. Any questions, feel free to ask. This is very rare hull as most were built as V-drives.
