****HELP**** Is it not worth it??? Is the market that bad?? Or do I just suck st sales?
********Quick sale at only $1750 this weekend CASH.******* 1960's Gaylord flat bottom 348 ci like a ?schiada? "V" drive
with trailer( old school tube type). Complete!!!! Just found out the engine #'s put it as a 1959 Chevy Impala engine. In Winchester, Ca. 92596
I was told the 348 was worth around $3000 and that rest of the hardware, trailer, and hull should bring almost $3000 so I hope the reduced price of only $1950 seems fair enough to help me get over a bit of a financial wake in the pond right now. Perfect for the visionary! This has been stored a while but, would be a fantastic restoration project and turn every head at the lake or river, might even give some whiplash at 50+ mph. No papers or tags. Really hate to see her go but, gotta move and there is no room.
Just a family man working hard! Hope you can help. Look for much more soon. Cars (79 VW rabbit diesel $500& 90 Ford Taurus 4 dr.$500), truck (67 Ford F-250 $1100), boats (74 18' Glastron $700), farm equipment, small outboards 6 hspr Johnson & 4 hspr Evinrude), Large Commercial stove "Wolf" $700, household fixtures (water and electric), ceiling fans, clothes, electronics, etc. Call and ask, Selling everything to move! Do not take this as a bash . This boat is a complete basketcase. :( I would love to have something like this to restore but this is a boat that has to have every single aspect of it gone over , replaced , or at least removed . To restore a motor like this would take a bunch of time itself . The trailer is a no go also . The boat just all around has less than desirable parts and hardware . If someone did restore it , it still wouldnt be worth much because of the exsisting hardware that was restored .
Take what I say with a grain of salt . If I were to restore it . The only thing to be reused would be the hull itself . I'm not gonna pay X amount of dollars for a bare hull. The v-drive has to go . Motor has to go . ect. ect. ect. None the less , classic sexy lines . I would hate to see something like this not get back on the water . Good luck whith what ever it is you decide.

Brittish , what I am getting at is this is an enormous project and along with the huge amount of time , comes the money . I have more time than money soooo....
That's what this is , a huge undertaking . Store it and maybe one day you will get it done the way you see just . I honestly mean absolutly no malace toward you or your ad . This will be one of the coolest boats around if it gets done right . Tryin to get X amount of dollars for it , well...... :-\
Good luck with it . I honestly hope to see it come back to life one day . A heap or not . Still a very cool boat .

I am on Beerjets side on this one. It is all in the eye of the owner. It is a huge project the I would say 80% of never get completed and sold for way less than you will put into it.

Look around for yourself Britishsteele.
Sanger v-drives complete minus engines, nice modern boats, $1,000 OBO. There's one on HotBoat, fully restored, breathtakingly beutifull, I mean gorgous!!! for $2,750 minus engine, how is yours worth $3,000? It doesn't make any sense.
Go on eBay, look up 348 chevy's, a couple of weeks ago there was a 348 on there for a starting bid of $650, no bids on it, freshly rebuilt, and never sold.
I bought my complete boat in great shape with a tired engine for $1,000, in waaaayyyyyyy better shape than the Gaylord.
The Gaylord doesn't use modern parts, replacement parts will be difficult - at best - to find. Design is old and will be harder to get as fast as a modern hull and modern engine.
The 409's nickname is "boat anchor", no sh!t, the 348 is the exact same as a 409 but smaller, and the 348 is just as heavy, has less HP, and even harder to find parts for.
Once the Gaylord has been fully restored to new, it will never be worth as much as a modern v-drive, ever.
I've told you 3 times that I was the guy who told you your 348 was worth $3,000 and that I was WRONG and I was sorry, but you insist on putting it in your ad for the Gaylord. The only way that hull is worth $3,000 is if it has gold in it, period.
I'm sorry, but your boat isn't worth even close to $1,500 or whatever your asking for it.
How long have you been trying to sell it? Think about it.

I'm understanding all the logic and I caught the auction, Hell, $750 is almost half of what I'm now asking but, I will have to store her before I could bring myself to start just sellin' parts.
I restore antique aircraft, from the ground up and I do all the work, cover, glass, paint, stripe, interior, rig etc. so I guess I just don't see this boat as that "much" of a project?? Just me I guess.
As far as the 348 and your first thought of the $3000, I got your note eons ago I just never modified the ad, guess I should!
BTW ..... At first you were not the only one to say the $3000 price, might depend on where ya are and how bad you need/ want one.
EVERYONE ELSE! Believe me, I really appreciate the tactless insight and I don't take it wrong, I've been around airports and boats all my life and there has NEVER been any room for thin skin so, it's all good!

If ya know anyone I'll just keep the price at the $1750, if she sells it would be nice to see her headed back to the water if not I'll have to find a way to do it myself, THEN LOOK OUT she might even make a mag. cover or 2 'cause I'll do her up just like the last plane I did. Wellllll ............. let's see the plane goes for around $65k in one piece but, a fresh engine like that one $22k, then buy the prop., plus the inverted oil system for a couple more grand (just in case you submarine or get into rolls or flips) with the draft you will now have, swingin' a 74" prop. at only 2500 rpm and 150 hspr. The up side is you can lean her out to around 7 - 9 gph. Or decrease your draft by throwin' the prop. up top and ya got an air boat.
Thank for the compliment on the plane, she did come out very nice, 1 year full time! Lots more work and parts than a boat though.

Let's see she is painted like the american flag and the battery caught on fire and took out a couple of things under the hood but, I bought most of the parts needed and I figure a day and a half she is going again. I just have not had the time but, she holds a special place 'cause of the paint job I did ???

i assume the fire was from leaky nozzles? how bad is the damage?

Actually I did a big "NO NO" and rigged an inverter real quick and the hood caught the wire I used as I shut it. Yea Yea, I know WAY to late and a beer or 2. Then when I took her out later the wires were charged and the battery didn't like it! My bad!
It started as I was on the fwy I pulled over and put it out w/ what I had but, the hood insulation was still hot embers and as I took a hard left around the traffic circle the electrolite from the battery went across the compartment.
Engine ??? I really didn't know there were 2 different kinds, she is 5 speed stick, interior is OK for 30 years old, front tires are brand new the rear ............. OLD.

Yes, there is several motors they had for those diesel rabbits...i think the 1.6 turbo diesels didnt come out until the mk2 generation, but it was a common swap into the rabbits.
I used to own a '79 1.5L diesel 2 door rabbit with a 4 speed manual tranny
I sold it a little over a year ago.
The one on the left is a rolling shell of a '84 Rabbit GTI that I had.....it had a full roll cage in it. The one on the right is the Diesel. This picture was taken about a year before I sold it and lots of work done to it. I cant find the pictures I took of it just before it sold.
