Title: title info
Post by: blackbeard on April 05, 2008, 04:56:30 PM
Brad.
sorry if this isn`t where it is supposed to be but i couldn`t find a spot to put it.
i may have run into a snag with  that 73 Montaro. when we bought it all we received was a bill of sale. well come to find out it may be a long process. so far we have not been able to find a HIN. there is an old California boat number on the hull and a sticker.
i was wondering if there was anyone who might be able to contact the tax commission or tag agency in California and maybe see if that number could be used to find a title or a HIN. if someone is willing to do this i will send the info. the tag on the boat is from 1990.  if i can find a HIN it would make it so much easier to title here in OK.
also really  don`t want to put a bunch of money into just to find out it is stolen or something. any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. thanks. jim

Thanks to Arnold we updated our ca website - you may be able to find what you need (or request info) there. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/

In So Cal, best case, it's a 2-3 hr visit (at least at my nearby DMV's), otherwise I'd do it.

There are multiple people on here with extra jet boat paperwork laying around cause the boat went to the dump! I would just find some paperwork and go that route!

Since your boat has no numbers it dosent have to be for a wridet!

i think it was '72 when HID numbers became mandated by the USCG....double check the transom about at the water line...passanger side.

also, is there an ID plate in it? the piece of metal plate that says the HP and weight rating for the boat. Sometimes the MFG's stamped the numbers on there. is there a registration sticker on the boat? if so, what year is it?

when I registered my '71 wriedt, it had been so long since it was last registered ('83 i think) that it fell out of the DMV system so it was like registering it for the first time. I did not have a title for either the trailer or the boat. All I had was old registration from '75. The boat didnt have a HID stamped in the hull, but it had numbers stamped into the ID plate (top left side). The numbers were specific to the boat (7109 - year 71, 9th boat) and she wanted to give me a new HID number for the title because that number was already used for another boat in the system. I batted my eyelashes at this cougar and I was able to keep the number. I was able to walk out of there with a temporary title on the boat, but I had to come back to get a VIN put on the trailer because I couldnt find one anywhere on there and the plate that was on the trailer was from a car.  :screwy:

I will probably be going through your same pains here shortly with the trailer thats under my liberty. The title is screwed up and the guy i bought it from gave it back to the guy he bought it from who is trying to get the guy that he bought it from sign it in the right spot.  :banghead: I think its a lost cause and i will just hit up the DMV with a bill of sale and the license plate and see where i can go from there.

Trailer is a dmv thing , and the boat has to go to the rangers to be registered and of course they cant be all in one town.....
I would have already done it , but i hate the drive to Kingman :banghead:
Stupid with all the freakin boats we have here , im surprised they dont make me go to a town that has no water ,  Oh wait.........thats kingman ???

Trailer for a lifetime is  $130 and for the boat its  $13.50 per year
Thats what my last reg cost me a couple of years ago, im sure it hasn't changed much.  But then again ???

i can tell you right now thats a lot lower then CA rates. Out the door with the rogers I paid almost $80 for boat and trailer, I dont know what the cost would be per year, but paying a flat lifetime 1 time payment on the trailer beats it hands down over time.

a town that has no water,

It's funny you say this as there is a town on Oklahoma with one of the biggest boat dealerships I've ever seen and it's in a town by the name of Nowata, and I don't think there's a lake or river near by either.

the datytona is gonna run me 35 for the year or 65 for 2 yrs, perm plates on the trailer. game and fish here is a pain in the ass, when we first bought the daytona we went down to register 2 boats at the same time, the daytona was missing the rear hin #'s so we had to make a plate for it, went ahead and registered the other boat, never realized they swapped numbers, now the daytona az numbers were registered to our flat bottom, eventually got the plate on the back of the daytona (several years later, it was still in project stages), went back to game and fish and the said the numbers were wrong for the boat, i had pics of both boats when we purchased them, both showing numbers, all my paperwork for both boats from day one showing i was correct and they had made a mistake, but it was my fault and now the daytona had to be investigated as a stolen boat, wtf, i am the second owner of the boat and i know the original owner that bought it in 78. it eventuall got straightend out but what a pain in the ass. sorry for the rant, game and fish pisses me off, and i didn't get drawn for elk again this year, 10yrs in a row :banghead:

Because you live in the state and the fee is less than an out of state hunter.....Its a money thing ???

I gave up years ago..........One good thing about living in Alaska, i didnt need no freakin tag!!!
Sorry for the thread JACK ;)

Trailers are easy and cheap. Get rid of the number on the frame if there even is one and tow it down to the DMV, tell them you built it yourself, and they'll sell you new ID numbers, plates, and tags. I want to say it's like $45...  :-\

If my wrecked trailer hadn't been towed off 3 weeks ago from the marine shop, I would have given it to you :-)

(they stuck it on the street, and left it there for a week- local PD towed it off and tried to send me a big bill for towing and storage. This trailer was completely trashed with the only thing even semi good were the tires so I "sold" it. )

well....i got the crazy eights registered....1 1/2 hours and $107 later.  :banghead:   its reg'd through '09

the lady barely spoke English so i decided to opt out of even trying to throw her the curve ball in trying to get the trailer title transfered.......so ill do that another day.

I'm a noob to the site, and there is a ton of great info on here. I've been in a bind here in Missouri for about 7 years now. I really hope someone has some insight, because I'm at a loss and paying indoor storage on a boat that I've never driven.About 7 years ago, before I left SoCal (El Segundo) I met up with a guy by the name of Ted Stotelmyre who was doing business under the name (and USCG builders license) of Eclipse Custom Boats. The only thing custom this guy turned out was a customized registration mess that cost me about $28,000 for a boat I can't title or operate and was supposed to be delivered to Missouri within a few months.About 2 months past the time the new boat should've been here, I put pressure on this guy to send the boat. I found a local carrier here in Missouri that ran that way, and let them know it would be sitting in such and such tranfer yard he dropped it at. After about a month, I inquired weekly with the carrier - who had refused it because it was overwide to ride a carrier truck. At this time I had a friend pick it up (the transfer yard wanted to hold it for ransom - even after my hatch ram, cover, batteries and brackets and 2 of my new tires (on a brand new trailer) had disappeared. Here's what I've got to deal with now - 7 years later (boat titles as a 2000 Eclipse 20.5 Bowrider w/ 25 hours on it <25 hours?!>). A trailer on an MSO with no bill of sale (real nice of him to not provide that to me), a boat that he registered to the company without telling me (and waaaaay after it was paid for), and a title (which he tried to hold onto for some odd reason.....) signed on the lien holder spot with no lien (I paid cash). Incidentally, I have not been able to locate this guy in the past 4 years to get any further on this - just seems to have disappeared.I have now had the boat and trailer in my possession for at least 5 years, can prove it with dated photos, and yet the local Barney Fife Dept can't seem to make this thing work for me. I have tried and tried and tried. Even thought about just forging his damn signature on the title, and a couple of bill of sales (or maybe someone else's and say they were an authorized signer for the company) to make this thing good. All I know is - I love jet boats, I'm a SoCal native and I grew up deafened by the open headers in a Sanger. I wanted my own and here this thing rots. It has a few (pile) of other troubles (mostly from sitting), and if I ever get it straight I'm gonna run this thing in spite of the builder. I'm open to any and all suggestions, as I'm about to the point of making a fish bed out of it before I move to Georgia soon. Thanks again, and rock the water not the boat :-)  Aaron

Aaron , I would forge that sumbitches siggy . Worst case senario is that they find the sumbitch to tell him you forged it and now you have your man . Hope everything works out good for you and you finnally get to use your boat . Welcome too BTW  ;D
