It totally broke my heart when you went from the nostalgia pics into the current pics!! I said wow!! I'm glad to see you bringin' her back!!
-
get on it we've only got 6 weeks
I read this yesterday and sat back in my seat and really thought about it.....i never put it into perspective....theres just not enought time.
The bottom of this boat is a mess. theres a lot of hook in it...not a big deal? yes, it is. After talkin briefly yesterday with Jack, it just reassured me how much trouble i can get into with that bottom...and the fact it has a lot of hook in it will make things much worse for me.
Yeah, I can 1/2 ass blueprint it myself since I dont really know what im doing, but also, I need a turn fin...and while its getting its belly rubbed, i might as well set up the intake and keel for a ride plate.
Also, not to mention the amount of money I will need to make this happen...the motor isnt complete...the pump needs to be rebuilt....i need cables, steering, guages, seat, helmet, jacket, foot pedel, apba reg, entry fee (remember im payin for ricks too)...
so much to do, but so little time.
trust me, im not discouraged, but reality check says chances are that i wont be racing at ming, but I will continue to bust my ass to get there.
-
there will be many other races to make it too. just keep up the good work brad! ;D

kyle and i are signing a new lease on another garage in the complex tonight....its a 2 car garage....we currently have two 1 car garages.....we are trading one of the singles for the double for only $30 more a month. :o
this will give me more room to work on my boat while his is being finished. We will be moving everything starting friday night.

diverter and handle you can borrow/ or hyd set up

does it matter if they are used? I personally don't care as long as they are usable
ss 10 gal side tank needs cleaned (not the one in the hornet)
Let me know how much
diverter and handle you can borrow/ or hyd set up
I would perfer a manual setup...just needs a cable, right? I would love to borrow it for the turkey weekend race, i should be able to buy my own by the next race in march
set of mounts for 460 front and rear/not rail kit we can negotiate
I have a set of mounts that came with the motor, I would just perfer something a bit more rigid because I don't know what lays under the fiberglass in those stringers (just to be safe) I plan on replacing the 3/4 stringers will full stringers over the winter.
life vest and helmet as long as we don't race in the same class
Don't sweat it bro...i plan on buying my own so I don't have to do swaps.
and last but not least i can perform your physical ;)
I will call and make my appointment! ;D I hope you're not too booked up!
-
wires used but ok=free
tank=free
diverter need cable

as far as the rail kit, i will be pulling my motor so you can use my motor plates as templets. my dad is going to pick up some material for my extended rail kit so i will find out where he's going to get it for you.
i paid 500 from htp and it was a waste of money, because i/you could make our own
-
I was thinkin of pulling mine and making templates as well cuz $500 is alot of scratch.
-

-
yeah, that HTP crap is a JOKE....but people buy it.
if its cool....just have your dad pick up double materials and i will cover whatever cost....i can front some cash too if he needs it
thanks again man.
-
valve covers and oil pan finally showed up today...won them 3 weeks ago on ebay ::) ...the valve covers need a lot of cosmetic work.

There isn't any hook in it! I will put a straight edge on it tonight and post some pics. I am surprised myself, I thought for sure it would be jacked up and need a ton of work.
-Brad
-
Lets hope that you dont have to put a ton of work into the bottom of that boat. You already have enough work cut out.

Make sure you use a real straight edge too BRAD !

i cant see the bottom of the bulkhead, so my ? is does it go all the way down to the hull? and if it does did you drill a drain back hole? other than that the progress is really good.

yes and no....it does go all the way to the floor, but i didnt glass the botom in.....so water can excape...there is about a 1/8" gap
-

A drain hole would be drilled after the glass anyway Ralph. My question is, did Brad grind on the new wood before glassing it??? The ply wood should be ground with a 36 grit disc to remove the coating that is applied at the factory. If the wood is not ground, the resin will not adhere to the wood.
-
no i didnt....and i thought i would be smart and coat the wood with a weather sealer first...yes, i am an idiot.
today most of the resign would easily seperate from the plywood...so i removed as much as i could and layed down another layer of matt...1 step forward.....2 steps back....that was the theme for tonight.
tonight i finished some misc wiring stuff on the trailer...mounted the license plate....adjusted the bunks....and sanded down the stringers from the patch work i did yesterday....and re-sealed the intake.
i was planning on having the stringers and bilge painted tonight. Kate and I are off tomorrow to get a tach, fuel pump and other misc stuff...then finishing up anything and everything that needs to be done before the pump and motor go in.
Then pack all the parts up into the truck so im ready to roll to ralph's pops house to start thrashing on it.

I was talking to Ken Myers one day,(B&K Boat repair) and when he was a kid, he worked in a plywood factory. He explained the process of making a piece of plywood. (I kinda forgot how they do it) But, anyway, the coating that is applied @ the factory is oil based and will resist any sort of adhesion.

i believe it. and it makes sense. this floor will be ripped out and done again (properly) after the race....this is just something to get me by

Friday the floor was still crap....plus the wood i put in there was too thin....so i ripped it out and kate helped me glass in the new floor properly with some thicker plywood....then she sanded the poxy putty around the intake and we painted the stringers and bilge/intake area....then painted the tunnel ram to match the rest of the motor....sorta.

added.
do you think we can run that single carb top for the tunnel? or should the tunnel be shitcanned all together? I am willing to part with the tunnel ram setup, but i need quick/cheap shortcuts just to make the race.
-
Last night i didnt do much other then just stare at it and start planning out the rest of the boat.
let me know what you guys think of this placement. I think i might just spend the $100 and get a fuel cell. mounting a gunnel tank sideways like that just looks silly ;)

tonight i lifted the motor out enough to change the oil/filter...while the motor was out, i took the rear motor plate off and cleaned up some edges and put another set of washers behind the starter to space it a little more...cleaned out the bilge which was a mess of metal shavings and i found terrys roll of duct tape down there too soaked in gas oil and water.
also i routed and terminated all the wiring...hooked up the bilge pump and the volt gauge....everything is a go electronicly. thanks again terry. :)
steering cable/helm comes wednesday...so does the evac system...exhaust goes to embee thursday for ceramic....
I'm takin tomorrow night off to go play with the lady and go see some bands at the galaxy.
