'72 Rogers

Well, yesterday I tripped and fell into a '72 Rogers Cyclone. My plan is to put it back together, clean it up, and get it back on the water. It has been sitting, covered in a garage since '92. It came with a stack of receipts dating back to '81 when the previous owner bought it from the original owner. The boat looks like it was taken care of through the years.

It came with an old Berk service manual and the Mondello guide to building a 455. So, maybe this Olds was build to last. I haven't got a boat with this detailed of records before.

I thought it was cool that it came with the original ski racks. Those are usually long gone. It also has the rope step that flips over the side of the boat.

Question for the Rogers gurus. What's the difference between the Cyclone and the Super Cyclone?

I dug into the boat a little and gave her a quick bath.

I am not an expert. But on my Cyclone, the top deck does not "fade" back to the transom like that. I have a noticable "lip"

Mine is like yours as well, only mine has been capped so its smooth, no rub rail. I also do not know what the difference is between the cyclone and super cyclone.

I think I have a Super Cyclone. It's the Bonneville bottom with the Cyclone deck. The Cyclone bottom has the deeper entry V and the deck lines you guys mentioned. I don't know of any other differences.

From 76 Bonneville in another thread:

The 18's and 19's have completely different bottoms, but that might not be a concern, both are good.
Not sure how you're going to use the boat. From the cockpit stand point. That foot difference in overall length is all in the back seat.
That being said, if you plan using the back seat, I'd stick to a 19' TR.

Unless you go to an 18' Super Cyclone (flat deck) you'll get the back seat back.
The 18' Super Cyclone and 18' Bonneville share the same bottom.
When Roger made the bubble deck it took 6" or 8" out of the cockpit.

I ended up with another hoopty in the driveway. I picked this one up for the trailer. My GF's dad needed a replacement for his current jet ski trailer as well as room for another sit down and stand up so this rig was the perfect candidate. It came with some good parts which is a plus. My neighbors must love me...We have an HOA so I'm expecting a letter.

I pulled a pair of stainless tanks out of storage. Looks like they'll fit perfectly. I just need to figure out how to mount the straps. Does anyone have pics of how theirs are mounted?

I found good deal on a Holley 850 with mechanical secondaries so I picked that up. Looks to be in good shape. It was rebuilt then sat for a few years so luckily there's no crappy gas inside. I need to figure out the correct jets and power valves for my application.

I posted an article from Hot Boat about a trick way to mount the tanks. It's pretty invovled but it's super clean.

The boat's cleaning up real nice. I like the paint scheme, but wasn't a fan of the candy corn colors. Now, they're really growing on me.
