'76 Hondo Project
« on: March 19, 2008, 09:47:05 PM »
So after doing almost nothing for almost a year, Buying the interior from 2sav lit a fire under my butt.  Tonight me and a friend went to town with acetone and scrubbers and clean a crap load of the overspray out of the interior area. Got about half of it done and after being high for the last 3 hours I had to call it a night.

So far I have: Replaced the bunks and carpet, Removed the pump (What a bitch), and other painfull crap.

How it looked when I brought it home:

The Interior that will be in it after a little modification (just need lumber and resin, already cut down to fit):

The Progress tonight:

Before -

After -

So I got most of the crap in the hull out (Paint, glue, old carpet, dirt, etc!), Yeah. Have the subfloor cut to length (real tight fit, will sand down a lil to make room for resin).

Bought resin, brushes, lumber to rebuild interior, etc, etc.

Found out 2 of my new bunks are trashed because the boat has been sitting front heavy for the last year with no motor in the boat...

This should be a busy weeked. Need lumber to do the floor braces and then the can put in the subfloor. Looking for carpet also. Ralph, you have any extra?

Also Resined the subfloor and will add a 2nd coat to everything tomorrow when I am no longer HIGH from the fumes!

So I put a 2nd coat of resin on everything and while waiting for it to dry I decided to tear into the pump and all I have to say is:

:banghead:  :screwy: :banghead:  :screwy: :banghead:  :screwy: :banghead:  :screwy:

I cant tell you guys how much silicone was on this pump, when I removed it from the hull I had to take the whole thing out the back with the transom cover on it!

I think the impeller looks pretty good, maybe the xperts will chime in and let me know

And finally I got it off, and they show how much damn silicone is there

And this is how I got it off!

Because it develops leaks over the years and as it trades hands to new owners, they just add more silicon :banghead: Instead of just fixin the problem.

You just answered your own question . When shit is done right , there is no need to use an entire tube of silicon on an already neglected part of the boat .

Losing 20 pounds of silicon should help in the speed dept.

Question for all because I am 2 tired to look it up. On the pump ID plate, after I got the paint off it says Jacuzzi WJ/B. The WJ part I knew, would the "B" Be the original impeller?

Beats me Sire I am but a lowly Knight

Bridgekeeper: What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European swallow?
Bridgekeeper: Huh? I-- I don't know that! Auuuuuuuugh!
Bedevere: How do know so much about swallows?
Arthur: Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

Ralph is correct. Jacuzzi is cut a little "taller" I guess in sizing. I have a stainless A and it has to be cut down. Just add 1 to the sizing. B=A   A=AA etc.

Well with today being Easter and seeing the familys and all not much got done but we did get the floor in and got the drivers side seat frame made. Its being held together with screws for now but tomorrow the screws get replaced with stainless staples and then resined which it never was (hint o 2sav when having the new seats made for the Bahner).

Looks to me like youre doing a great job  ;D .   My only tip for the seat boxes is to make some way for water to drain from in front of the seats to the back on the outside of the stringers (cant see in the pics if you did this or not), or you might end up with your left foot in a big puddle of water  ;).

The Seat frame on the outside of the stringer does not go down into the "gutter" along the stringer so there is drainage from front to back. The only thing I havent done yet is to put holes in the stringer near the back of the boat to allow it to drain down into the bilge area. i am pretty much working from the front to the back.

I also left a gap at the front of the subfloor and the supports for the floor dont go all the way into the "V", so if water is sloshed to the front of the boat between the stringers it has a way to get back to the bilge area.

Damn bro that looks like shit..... But still no excuse......I have found out that working on the boat really only requires one good foot. Cause your always leaning over it... ;D

Have the woman grab a bat and even out the other side... This way its equal and you will be balanced again :o

Take care of that shit..Then get that boat done..

I have a cousin who has fractured or broken one ankle at least twice . The last time , she said she just stepped off a curb and POP ! I told her the story wont stick if the curb is in front of the bar she was leaving . Her doctor also said that with every fracture , its gonna be weaker every time .  :-\ Get better and be careful .

I was able to get a few days of  "can you get that for me", Then she got wise!

So I brought the boat over to the new house last night and I have to say that when I pulled the boat out of the garage and onto the street...It looked damn sexy behind my truck! White truck, White boat!  ;D

It was a bitch getting A 4 car garage worth of crap into a 2 car garage. But I think after I move a few things around and ebay somethings I will have enough room to finish the interior.  ;D

I have been working on the engine divider for the last couple of days.

I have worked out a way to build speaker box's into it and some storage space also, 2 storage bins... 8" deep x 14" high x 13" wide. they will be good for rope, spare parts, etc etc. Will post pics when its all glued together.
