I got the weight off of the stringers. I filled the the corners. All I have left to do is round the top corners and lay glass. I'm almost done with the stringers lol

Got all the edges rounded. A little bit of sanding in the morning and then glass will be going on. It's been a long time coming but it's almost done.

Do you have a squeegee roller? Be careful to get as much air out as humanly possible while laying her up....

I don't have a squeegee roller, I am just using brushes, I have been warned about air bubbles and I am going to take my time and make sure everything is done right. I'm kind of a perfectionist. I guess that comes from me being a perfectionist on welding and fitting lol. I want to get this thing done so I can enjoy it on the water not looking at it in my garage lol

I'll be looking for stringer material soon. Mind if I ask how much they cost ya? Where did you get them?

Good point about roller. While not required....it makes the job soo much easier...thereby quicker. Rollers can be a little spendy. I've seen someone make there's....threaded rod bent to shape. Some washers.... one bigger than the other and alternating in size when putting them on rod. So, big then small then big then small, etc. Nuts at either end to keep it together. Seem to work well....costs less than 15-20 for a roller.

The spreaders worke well too. I was once told by a builder....to only drag spreader in one direction , which ever direction....particularly with mat. Said it helped to keep fibers down and not pulling over themselves when changing directions... cloth is different.

If you have ever done concrete, the method is similar. Tap the end of the spreader into the fresh mat and push the bubbles to the direction of the end of the glass, not to the corner. Once the glass is clear you can squeegee the surface flat. I keep a rag with resin wax on it handy to wipe onto the squeegee, it seems to prevent the dragging of the mat/cloth.

I have four different rollers, once you use them, you become addicted to them... They typically run about $25 each... I try to catch sales...

If you absolutely cannot get out all the bubbles, you can always wait until it cures and grind them out and patch it up... Done it myself. You'll be fine.

Also....the spreaders help.....spread resin, duh. So you can pour the resin over glass....like in a line going down stringer ...and use spreader to push resin into glass....and move it along down stringer. It can help speed layup time....so you get more down per batch of resin. Remember than resin is weak without glass...or other reinforcement. Too much resin is about as bad as too little. I looking for uniform color...if all glass is saturated it looks a little see thru....

Www.aeromarineproducts.com prices are on the page, I had to buy more because of my mess up but I ended up buying a total of 6 gallons, 3 gallons of it is $170 w/o pumps $181 with pumps. They carry the cabosil, csm and the matte. Everything you need they have.

thank you for this! ive been to aeromarine....good company, my experience. not sure if you posted you were using epoxy...but as you know, you cant vary the mix ratio to speed or slow gelling...or curing. when you mix epoxy in a cup....and leave it there...it tends to get hot....and ends up gelling prematurely.
if you dump the resin out in....say a tray...the resin spreads out and is less likely to heat up and prematurely gel. ive lost several batches before learning this trick. epoxy aints cheap, nah-mean!

if your quick, no need to worry....but if you dipping your brush, then applying to glass....you may run into premature gelling.
epoxy is a little runny...tends to run down vertical surfaces...leaving glass a little starved...and pooling at the bottom. just something to be aware of, if youre not already

(sorry if im back seat driving on your build)

however....i was referring to the wood you used.....for stringers.

Sorry I miss read lol, I used clear kiln dried Douglas fir, it was $100 for two 2"x6"x12'. They were around $47 a piece. I got them from ganahl lumber in corona. They have several locations http://www.ganahllumber.com

There's a location by me. That's where I was going to go too...

Gt is right....
Some epoxys have a bard time breaking down the binder used in mat to keep all the hairs together. This makes it hard for mat to conform to corners, etc. The glass is still saturated. Just the binding agent makes the mat "stiff" and not conform....so air gaps are made. Give aeromarine a call....I don't remember if their epoxy association compatible with mat. Cloth is fine, no issues.
