I just got back from a 14 1/2 hour drive to pick another jet boat up. '74 Biesemeyer 21' mini-day cruiser. I've never seen one before in person, but let me tell you that there is nothing "mini" about this day cruiser. It's HUGE. There's enough room under the bow for a bed if you wanted to put one there. 455 Olds with a (alleged) bad starter and a (alleged) bad carb. 12JC, split bowl, droop snoot, "high speed" intake grate, split bowl wedge, and a regular nozzle with a HUGE turning fin on it. Also, it has a fixed mount aluminum fin in the center of the bottom of the hull. I've never seen one of those fins but I did have a guy ask me a couple of days ago if I had one of those fins. Anyway, this one appears to have a good floor, transom, and stringers - I'm going to have to dig a little deeper into the wood tomorrow to make sure. It's a pretty interesting hull by itself. Besides the fact that it's so huge, it's got a pretty "rake-ish" entry on the bottom which smooths out to nearly a perfectly flat bottom in the back. Also interesting to me is that the exhaust log's snails have no "snail" to them, they are perfectly straight and very short. All cables seem to be good. There's even some sort of "lock out" to the forward/reverse "shifter" which actually works. All matching old school Stewart Warner gauges. The clear coat is peeling off of the hull. The interior is completely shot. I have two extra interiors right now, it'd be nice if this one had a good engine and pump so I could actually repair one of these old jet boats (besides mine) instead of striping them, dumping the hull, and parting them out on eBay. Time will tell.
I was also informed of some info so I'm going to share it. Here it is...
Hi Rod, Thanx for the reply! You know the more I think I know, the more I find out that I don't know! To my limited knowledge they only made the JC,JG,JEand JF pumps. However there was a JR. Is it possible that the B is actually an R? the rest of the numbers (Mo No and Serial No) refer to the type of package, ie engine, nozzle, transom adaptor, intake, etc.. By the way the R stood for Race! After the J_ the letter stood for the size impeller and then the type of material the impeller was made of. Hope this helps!

I know where you can get a complete 455 Olds for that boat:

That engine is a pending on a sale... Monday. If not on Monday it goes to prospective buyer number 2. (Buyer number 1 are you listening? I expected to hear from you again.) The engine is now a long block with all of its parts on eBay minus the Dooley 10 qt. oil pan and the long block. That engine will be sold - cheap. If this Biesemeyer's engine or jet is shot it will be striped as well.
Hey Marc, are you done with my high speed loader grate yet? Go ahead and keep it, I don't need it anymore.
-
Your trippen bro! I asked for that loader grate waaay befor you did.

I have had a few beers and cant make sense out of what hes saying, but I do know for a fact they made a B pump and its most likely that IS NOT a R pump in your cruiser. Kyles pump in the wriedt is a 12JB-B and its pretty much identical to a 12JG (split bowl). You dont see replacement parts for a 12JB since they are so similar.
Also, the J_ isnt the impeller size, its the following letter.....like kyles pump has a B impeller (12JB-B)

Believe what you want, but I asked him to sell me his extra loader grate the same day he got the Crusader, which would be the first day that he had two of them. How could you ask him for his loader grate before he had two of them? Oh wait, we're talking about Marc here. Whatever, I got one now.

I agree, but what do I know?

Gotta love those valve cover breathers! >:(
-
Tandems are cool. This one is odd, made for a flatbottom jet.
-
Check out the straight "snails". ???
-
The Chaz and marcsrollin obviously know this boat, it came with a free rope wrapped around the pump's impellor shaft! ;D
-
WOW , a wet sand and some new interior and that would make a nice family boat!

You believe what you want , I have first dibs on anything to do with that boat!! It was part of the deal of me selling it to him in the first place!! If you remember which boat the grate came off of!!

Brother, you gotta see this thing. The pictures don't do it justice. Actually, you've probably seen one of these in person - you go to the river a lot more than I am able to. I'd never seen one before.
This thing is H U G E !!!!!

:D Look, we both know where it came from, we both know that I was the first to ask about it, and we both know that bridge has been permanently burnt, preluding any loader grate. :D

First one must have sold, the next two are Buicks, the car guys are real particular about the Olds/Buick/etc... rhing. There are a lot of Olds car guys looking for thr 455. I seriously doubt that most jet baoters know the Buick and Olds have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. Killer deals though.

Bought the boat with the story that it had a bad carb and a bad starter. Came with a new starter. I put on my extra carb, changed the totaly shot battery cables, and now the engine spins over nicely without changing the starter. Holley electric fuel pump isn't working, put on a spare manual fuel pump. Still no fuel, must have connected the gas lines backwards. :D Now no spark. :-\ BTW, It needs gas and spark to run.
Everyone pray to the jet boat Gods to save this one's soul as I try to get it running. ;)
-
Oh yeah, I forgot to add that under the carb there was absolutely no residue on the intake manifold. Fairly fresh engine??????

I cleaned the points and OUCH! Now I feel all special inside. :D Still no fuel getting to the carb. :-\ I can buy a new fuel pump but my spare looks new. I can pull my new electric fuel pump off of my Rogers - no I can't - refuse to do it - not going to happen. hmmm... I poured gas down the carb ;D and BAM, starts and runs, no knocks, no water in the oil, hmmm...
-
Pulled the El Cheapo fuel pump off of the old reliable outboard, put it in the jet, and BAM, it starts and runs excellant. No strange sounds from the jet drive pump. Now I need to figure out how I am going to hook up the garden's water hose with two male ends. ???
-
I dig the play by play posts :D

;D
Got the garden hose deal figured out. Hooked up one hose to the engine, shut off the valve between the engine and the pump, stuck another hose in the back of the pump. Started the engine, turned on the water, water everywhere. hmmm... two missing freeze pligs, in the rear side of each side. marcsrollin is going home because he has some extra's at home. ;)
-
marcsrollin's freeze plugs didn't fit. Then The Chaz showed up and I reiwred his distributor for him. The Chaz took marcsrollin and I to Kragens where I got 2 new freeze plugs. The The Chaz bought me some beer. ;D So we got back and I installed the freeze plugs, permenantly installed the electric fuel pump, found the old freeze plugs in the bildge ??? , installed the used key switch that came with it, installed a throttle pedal and cable from one of the "retired" boats I've had, fired it up and
it runs excellant. ;D ;D ;D I even have a picture to prove that it runs.
Next will be a couple of large towels for the seats and a trip to the lake sometime between Thursday and Sunday. ;)
-
sweet......sounds like you guys were productive today. ;D

Yeah, marcsrollin is a good uhmmm... friend and The Chaz hoepefully got his distributor problem fixed. Personally, I worked my asssss off. :D

-

-

Next to a Crusader tunnel, and a few spots down from my Rogers 18', this Biesemeyer is allmost as big as the Titanic. ;D What kind of boat do you have? ???
rod, are you going to start a used boat shop? ;D
Kind of looks like I already have? :D Nah, I really like my 9 to 5 job. ;)
Hey I helped...um grab the WD-40 and drink a couple of your beers :D
That's right you did help. Thanks! marcsrolling helped as well. Now if I had a real boat shop you guys what have gotten paid, but since I don't have a boat shop... ;D

After tightening down the battery to it's hold-down, the battery was still loose. I investegated. Found what's in the pic. What's probably not in the picture is all the bugs that are crawling through it. :'(

I missed this whole thread! I think ya about cornered the market on boats by now! ;D
