Of all the improvements that have come along since the 60's that I don't care for, cam grinds are the one thing I strongly recommend you go with something a little more modern. The gains in performance from improved cam technology are worth it.

That bait tank hole :D looks a lot like an outboard powered boats butt with the "floor" cut out of the hole. It's where the outboard engine's cables and fuel line sit. When was it converted to a jet drive and who did the work? If it's a conversion that is.

You guys are all wrong , thats where the nitrous bottles go >:D.

No "squeezin" that motor (too much compression) I'll have more info on the hull and the "splash well" tommorow too frikkin tired ,Rhonda's been workin my a$$ off today with the honeys doo's ;D

NO !!!! Its handy that way so as when you go over the side to pee you can reach up for a cold one !

So heres some info re the little boat , the OB splash-well and the Bayjet: First the boat applealed to us "just because " ,Its doesn't weigh anything (small lite boats are cool),it was ripe for a SBC and the Bayjet (to the right person) is worth some "bank" . We just happened to have alot of ansulary small block goodies setting around and as one might imagine a few Berk parts and pieces as well soo we thought we'd save it from the "dog pound" (landfill). Re the splash well ,its a pretty safe bet that the hull started life as a Outboard hull (bp might know more),ironically my second jet boat ,which I always thought was a "tahiti" was identical (same OB well) SOOO When in teasing Ralph and Brad on the PB board Circle boat thread a couple weeks ago I posted up pics saying "the vomit shake" is coming after you... BP saw the pics and sent me some PMs...turns out we kind of knew each other .. friends of friends thing ,good guy very knowledgable ! heres what he (BP) had to say

i only ask because... that's my old boat - haven't seen it in about 11 years, since i sold it, and it looks nothing like it did when i owned it, but it's definately my old one. i bought that boat in '78.
me and a buddy "laid up" the hatch cover over the transom hole, and i had that cushion made i don't know how many years ago. it was still looking nice when i sold it.
interesting...

i can still see remnants of the speedcoat on the bottom. about 20 years ago, i heard somewhere that removing hook was a good thing. i had friends in reno that i'd go visit once or twice a year, and driving around one day, found sonny's marine shop. it needed some new exhaust hose, and greg had it, so got it there and talked to him about straightening the bottom. so, went back to eureka, stripped it, and towed it over for greg to straighten, which he did, and he sprayed the speedcoat. amazing it's still showing.
i used to get that metalflake deck really shiny - nothing like cruising accross trinity lake in 100+ temp, with that metalflake blinding you. it was a very cool little boat.
it should run really well with a pumped up small block. it was always a little squirelly in turns, especially if there was no passenger and you turned left.
if you have any other pics, please send to havasubp@yahoo.com i only have a couple pics from wayback, and they're so far away you can't really see it. i'll try scanning one and send it along...

no, i don't mind if you use anything. the seats in it were real comfy, considering the size of the thing. i did find one pic, of an old friend barefooting behind the thing - probably 19-20 years ago.
doesn't surprise me that the deck is gone - it was something that had to be kept inside, and kept after when it was on the lake for a month at a time.
from the looks of it, that cushion might clean up? it was made with some pretty good material to last this long, especially left outside.
not too bad over here, a little breezy but in the 80s..
the blueboat was my second, first was a trihull 50hp outboard that wouldn't get out of it's own way... didn't last long.
my name is bob i race a southwind tunnel jet with njba/ihba in modified eliminator, and have since '02. we lived in arroyo grande from 93 until i retired last september, then we moved here to havasu. i worked for pg&e for 34 years, both in eureka and at diablo canyon. several years ago, Jeff was having trouble with a jet he bought, and i referred him to you.
we bought the southwind in '97, which is when i sold the dominator to some younger fellow. took him for a ride at lopez, and he bought it.
i think my youngest has all the old pics of the boat; he still lives in eureka, and is in hawaii at the moment, so won't hear from him for another 10 days.
Soooo Bob (BP) used to live around this area ,he owned the boat years ago (had a 396) and I'm sure was facinated and curious to see whta was really going to happen with it next, dont know bout you guys I loved every one of my boats thruout the years
-
so today its "out with the Bay jet and in with the Josh economy Berk (with a few mods to fit) Then I threw in the seat from and old flatty (thats headed for the landfill) and were almost there,a little plumbing ... a little electrical... 8) !

looking good tom, good to see it back!
just to clarify, this boat was never rigged as an outboard. the original title for the boat said it was built in 1973 by a company called "dominator", which i believe was some shortlived company in the bay area that splashed the tahiti. it came with the bayjet and (as i figured out later) a 1968 325hp 396. the boat lived at shasta for a few of it's early years, was pretty much beaten (and sunk at least once from wakes), and then a couple of business guys in eureka bought it to clean up and resell. i bought it from them in 1978. i still have the torker intake that was on it then, as well as the 850 holley (replaced 'em with an edelbrock intake and 750 holley).
i'd bet that it will work just fine with the sbc, as it's awfully small...
