76 Anthony 21 daycruiser questions
« on: April 09, 2013, 11:39:27 AM »
Hello all, Just picked-up my first boat a 1976 Anthony 21ft Day-cruiser with a Olds 455 and Jacuzzi TJ.  Boat was in overall very good shape, gellcoat is still very nice but it can use a good wash & Wax, Was told motor is stock build other than Edelbrock Torker and Holly double pumper. Interior was redone about 4 years ago, looks like a good job nothing fancy but this boat is for me. my wife and our 4 year old son.  The issue I need help with I was looking for pictures of the dash area for one of these boats, all the gauges were removed and previous owner installed a tach and water temp all other spots are empty.  What would be the recommended gauges, Tach, Oil pressure, water temp, voltmeter and speedo?  I will be rewiring the full cluster so now is the time to decide and make any changes, I think the previous owner removed the gauges thinking they were bad but I found a broken ground wire so nothing on dash was working. I added a temp ground and now have blower, bilge and running lights.

Any help would be great, Thanks

Welcome! Post some pics when you get a chance. You are right with the gauges, though most don't have a speedo.

Your probably not going to have much luck finding pictures for what you are looking for.  If your boat is equipped with a fuel level sender you will want to add a fuel gauge.  Much easier than using a yard stick (don't ask me how I know)  ;)

I've never heard of a Jacuzzi TJ.  Post some pics.  It's probably either a WJ, YJ or a Golden Eagle.

Sorry I meant it has a YJ pump

Here are the pics I have so far , the on water pic was the PO other is in folks driveway as I made arrangements with the storage in my complex

I was trying to look at all the wires that are left behind from the missing gauges and have decided just to start over, dont think its a bad idea to clean it all up and replace the 36yo wire and all the splices and taps that have been left behind. The PO gave me a fuel sender new in box but I don't see a sender in either tank, boat has dual 25 gal side tanks. I will get a second sender and wire them to a proper PDST switch to handle the tank selector and level sender to gauge at same time.  Today I changed out the key/starter switch to a model with a aux position, and added a battery isolator so i can separate the fun power from start power.  Next on list is pulling the surge brakes and installing electric, i spent 2 hrs flushing mud from the lines to get them kinda working so would need all new lines and new surge tongue/master cylinder. Dont want to deal with it so think I will weld the slide and just install electric.

Hi Srshll,  Hull on mine is ANT210060276   If you would have a picture of the "dash" area that would be great I have a bunch of odd sized holes and no gauges. Have had a lot of other projects the last few weeks but plan to start plugging the holes and learning Gelcoat and color match soon. I would like to do my new gauges in a original style layout. I figure if the plugs and color match dont work good as long as I get it all smooth I will get some of that vinyl teak sticker to overlay the area and match the side of the boat. I have had a chance to pull all the extra wires out of the boat and trace and label the factory harness back to the motor, just received new Oil pressure, water temp, and volt meter all digital blue LED gauges all in 2in and have a nice 3.5in tach , still need fuel gauge will also plan for 2in.
