1978 Miller Mini Day Cruiser
« on: January 17, 2024, 12:11:51 PM »
Hi Everyone,

Not sure this belongs in the projects section, but I just picked up a new float and wanted to document small projects and bounce ideas off people.  I have been around the forms for years researching things; this is my third boat in the last 10 years or so, but this one will be sticking around.  I just picked up this 1978 Miller from the original owner, he had worked on/updated several things in the past 40 ish years; but there is still alot to clean up and update.

My immediate plans are to:
Replace all fuel lines and filter(s)
Replate water lines and add a valve at the pump
Replace battery cables/secure batteries

While doing the fuel and water lines, I want to have the carb looked over and plan to flush out the block to make sure it's not full of sand.  My only question as of now has to do with flushing the block; I know there are drains on each side just above the oil pan.  I plan to remove the logs to get to those drains and will check the logs for sand in the process; as far as flushing goes, do I just remove the t-stat housing from the top of the motor and flush the block from there?

Here's a couple pics for now, I will update the thread as I complete small projects.  The boat is stored at Lost Lake so I can only get out there every few weeks.

Been working on the boat a bunch these last few months, I found more things that needed to be addressed than originally thought but that's all part of the fun.  I managed to get new battery cables, and new fuel lines installed myself, I also cleaned up the wiring on the transom and get everything routed to my linking. Then I took the boat in to Shane at Havasu Marine Specialties to add new water lines, exhaust lines, new cables, and fix up a couple shady "upgrades" the previous owner installed.  While Shane had the boat, I scrubbed the interior bits for days to get them cleaned up.  Currently the boat is at Shadow Trailers in Havasu getting a few things fixed and upgrades added.  All in all, I am happy with where the boat is now and should be able to run it for a couple years as is.  I still have a couple little things to button up before the season, but they are minor and I can do them myself.
