worked on dads rogers this weekend. pulled engine thinking all we were doing was putting an oil pick up back on... dropped the pan and all that was there was oil... weird thing was oil was jet black and for oil that was clean 3 months ago we got worried. looked closer into the pan there was a piece of metal. even closer inspection it looked like glitter in the bottom of the pan. so we took out the bearing #8 bearing... little bit of wear. the decided to put on a stand. took the heads off... no problems.. turned her over and started takin out pistons. got to the #5 and 6 piston and the bearings were spun and got so hot at one point (previous owner bc we never had a temp problem) that they were welded to the rod.

. we realized they were put together lock to lock. the crank was ruined...it was already ten under. and when we bought the boat we were told it was an original BBC 454. top of piston is a GM 396

needless to say were pissed. next we looked at the block #...it had original Manufacture marking then the rebuild... broke one of heads off a bolt that held the oil pan!! the pistons looked brand new (dome tops!!!!

) still had mill marks. so gotta get a new crank, rods, bearings, and gaskets...
