I just want to know if it worth restoring my 74 Hallett bubbledeck. I know I need to replace my fiberglass gas tanks and put a big block Chevy in it. I love the boat but is it worth restoring the boat or would it be better to buy a newer Hallett.

Swapping tanks and a motor, not that hard. But if you really don't like it then sell it. Got any pics of it

It all comes down to your opinion. If you like the condition of the hull and hardware, If you are happy with how it rides, if you are able to accept the amount of space it provides... Keep it and do the repower. That sounds like the biggest drawback for you at this point. Depending on budget it might be less expensive in the long run to buy another boat with the engine you want, set up like you want then swap them. Sell the extra boat and not be out as much a you would be if you just bought a complete engine and all the accessories to get it going (ya see what I mean?).

100% keep it. Halletts are solid boats. Tanks are easy i swapped mine in a day. Use one of those ocilating flat blade tool things and take your time . Hardest part is finding aluminum tanks to fit. Never swapped a motor. I knows its a bitch getting the new motor lined up and mounted. To plug the old motor mount holes get some 3/8 wood dowel and dip in resin and slip it in. Your boat looks like its in good shape.

What is your ultimate goal? Family boat? Cruiser? River hot rod? If you are concerned with tank replacement and engine swap right now then you should throw river hot rod out the window. These boats take tons of work and $$$$ to make any respectable speed, they are heavy and the pump usually needs to be relocated along with more HP. They make great riding boats and take a pounding, I've tested this many times crossing Elsinore in the afternoon on a weekend! I would keep it if I were you, they are one of the better built hulls from the day. That said, I'm most likely going to have my bubble deck up for sale soon but only to fund my new hallett project.
Do the tank swap, there are a bunch of tanks available right now that should be a close fit. Hit up Madskillz(Nick) if you need them modified for your hull and a little glass work, done.

Second why do you neeeed Big block chevy I thing Blake's (bunger) Hallett has an olds and it's just fine and my last boat had a ford and it was bitchin...
What it boils down to is it gets you out to have a good time and unless there's something drastically wrong with it I say run it and build as needed and prettify what you want to lol
Tanks are easy to come by on craigslist or eBay

I laughed a little when I read this. Your boat is in great shape and I don't think "restoration" is the word here. If you only knew what my bubble deck required when I brought it home! Your concerns are minor so doing the tanks at a minimum would be a huge upgrade. I'm running a BBF in my bubble and it's solid, BBO in one of our family jets and it's also been good. Don't spend the money if there is no need to.

Swap the tanks and run it for this year while looking for a new motor. You have a great boat...Reputable name manufacturer, original gel, full stringer, and a nice interior. With the new tanks the boat will do its job.. Get you and your family/friends on the water.

Yeah I need to do the tank swap soon. The reason I want to put a big block Chevy in the Hallett is due to the fact that I have had a lot of problems with the olds. It's running better now since the 2nd rebuild.

What's all done to the motor?

The motor was rebuilt completely but the dude that built it didn't really know what he was doing. He put some stuff in upside-down. I forgot what was put upside-down due to the fact that I have a hangover. But the reason for the 2nd rebuild was that I spun a bearing that how we found the upside-down parts. the second rebuild was just the bottom half.

Lol wow. We'll My olds has been running Strong for 20 years and still pushes my heavy ass hallett up to 67. Best advice I could give you is if it ain't broke don't fix it. Just do the tanks and get out n have some fun.

Marine shop. Call around your bound to find somethin.

Pull some measurements off the current tanks to find something close. I have a set for sale and I know there about 3-4 other guys on here that have a set for sale. Post up you current dimensions and we may have something for you at a quarter of what Imco would charge.

I have some massive spun aluminum tanks like close to 18-20 gallons I'm asking 150 for and I know of a pair of stainless imco tanks for 250 that need to have the necks re welded due to small cracking.

Do you have any pictures of the spun aluminum tanks. Is the spun aluminum tanks a pair or is it one single tank?

It's a pair and they both have senders, and come with flip tops.

Those are the 18 to 20 gallon tanks? They look nice. Does the mounting hardware come with the tanks?

What kind of boat are these tanks coming out of. I wonder if they would fit the Hallett?

There in a 19 foot hornet and yah everything for the tanks goes with them, the tanks are about 8 3/4" In diameter and 86" long. And the fuel fill neck is about 9" from the front of the tank so you would have to have a minimum of 77 inches from the transom to the fuel fills for them to fit
