Title: 1975 tahiti 455 rack and pinion

hello i have a just bought a 1975 tahiti from a buddy the steering would not turn at all, i took off the rack and pinion and turns out its bad, what is the cheapest way and what kind of rack and pinion to get thank any help would be awesome

rex marine brand new teleflex steering kit.  like $150, new shaft, new rack and pinion, etc. just look at the end of your cable and there should be a model # and i think the last 2 are the length.  so tel39595-17 will be a 17' cable, etc.

turning will be almost "too easy" once you replace.

Post some pics of what was in the boat.  I'm looking for an old used cable from a Mercury/Kiekhaefer type of rack and pinion unit.
