My First Project!

So I got my first boat last month. I would have posted pics sooner but the internet in afghanistan blows! Anyway I will be back in Cali around June and looking at getting some stuff done the week I get home before getting it wet! I already ordered a few parts and will be getting more when I get back. I will post pics of stuff I ordered soon. I also found some seats on craigslist that I'm going to put in after they get recovered. I also want to remove the rub rail and paint the boat all white. Maybe painting cherry red Flames. I have the flames that are on the boat now. There are a lot of scratches and chips on the old paint. If anyone has any ideas and maybe would like to help out when I get back let me know there will plenty of beer to go around.

List of stuff to do!
1) Remove rub rail fill hole and paint boat white.
2) Paint trailer and put new on new wheels and tires.
3) install Gauge bezels and new steering wheel.
4) Install the new seats after getting them recovered.
5) Adding a stereo
6) Get headers re-dipped
7) New carpet and floor

clean up motor and all the crap around it

nice lookin boat! the wheel, gauges, and forward/reverse lever will help with bringing the look "up to date"

are you going to do a rear bench with those buckets or just 2 seats? i like your current interior, keep it!

Thanks guys! I have a bench that came with it. I'm going to put the 2 buckets and the bench in it tell I can pay to het the old ones done. The foam and some of the wood needs to be replaced. I was told around 900 to fix them, but theres more important stuff i want to get done first. Like getting the boat repainted.

The boat is a 1976 waikiki. I know it wasn't a big time boat company. I hear is was only around for 2 years. I have tried looking up more info on it, but i can't find anything.

You can always save a bit by doing the seat frames yourself, many of us have done our own and they have all turned out pretty good. Just ask any questions you have along the way and we are all willing to help, good luck and keep the pics coming.

Yea I'm going to build the new frames my self, but I'm going to wait tell next winter to do it. I got the other seats for 200 and just going to put those in for now. that way I have more time on the water in the short time i will be back in cali.

if you haven't done it already, but I recommend getting plush carpet. look and see if there is a Keyston Bros near you and they carry the good stuff in stock. The stuff I got for mine was like 50 bucks a yard but i only needed 2 yards. its the 40oz. stuff they use in wakeboard boats. I've done the carpet twice in my boat and wish I woulda spent the money right the first time.

Thanks for the info. I haunt bought anything else new yet because I'm still in afghanistan. but I'm thinking of ordering my new gauges soon. i also got a quick pic of the back bench today.

40oz carpet? thats like some home depot stainmaster type carpet... i put 28oz platinum in mine from http://www.boatcarpet.com and its pretty damn thick. i cant even feel any of the stray pokey fiberglass spikes i left from redoing my floor.

Has anyone ever changed the rub rail on there boat. Mine is missing sections and i want to change it to a black rubber.

I removed my rub rail to do a color sand and buff. I took the advice of using SS screws instead of rivets to put it back on and once a weekend in the cove I have to go around tightening screws. Obviously aluminum is easier to form around curves than stainless. I saw a YouTube video once of guys installing a rub rail.

I did the rub rail on my old Eliminator (Sold several years ago) and it was difficult, but nice when done. Take your time, I did mine on a very hot day because rub rails are not very flexible, drill your holes carefully and the right size for your stainless screws, I used silicone to help hold them in place.

Nice where you been purchasing your parts from?When you get back home there is Dana marine products that is here local in Corona that has the bezels and alot of other stuff.

Dana is a great guy and usually doesn't mind helping you out even after shop hours. I will say that I have gone to him for many things while putting my boat together but he is not the cheapest around. If you're not in a rush for something shop around before you go there, you will probably find better prices from Tom @Jet Boat Performance or through CP Performance.

I have been using CP performance to order my stuff. Im sure I will be going to Dana when I get home. My uncle is a close friend of his. I think the first thing I'm going to do is remove the rub rail and paint the top white and go to dana to get some red anodized rub rail. The rub rail i have now is missing in some spots.

Anyone know anyone selling a manual place diverter. I just need the cover really. but when I contacted them they told me they don't sell just the covers and for a new one is $250 at the price I mite just covert it to a hydraulic.

First off if your in Afghanistan putting in work for our freedom. THANK YOU!!! Second off boat looks good. I also have a 76 Waikiki. But mines a 21 ft daycruiser. Keep up the work. Good looking boat
