1977 Manta
« on: October 05, 2008, 06:45:32 PM »
We just started a new boat build project. It's a 1977 Manta hull with a tandem trailer, and FULL STRINGER! We got it for 500 bucks (including trailer). We re-did the trailer with new lights, rims, tires, hitch, and carpeted the treated bunks. We finished the trailer, all that is left  to do is paint it. Waiting to do paint so boat and trailer can be painted at the same time. On the boat we put a new berk pump (thinking about polishing it out!!!).  I removed about 50 lbs (seemed like 100) of 1970's water saturated foam out of the bow, and am still picking the foam shards out of my skin and hair.  We acquired 2 front bucket seats and a back bench seat for $300, and am planning on dying the vinyl to match the hull. Currently I am waiting on a few Beede gauges that are in the mail to finish out the panel, and a new low profile oil pan for the Ford 460 engine that I am eagerly waiting to mount!  Anyone know where I can find a tricked out Skull knob for the shifter???  Just kidding, I am sure this close to Mexico I can stumble upon one on my own.  Just a few little touches till it is ready for its maiden voyage.  Need to carpet the interior, build a box for forward bow storage, and put some new, more durable (lighter) foam in front 3' of the bow.  Will add pics soon as I figure out how to upload onto this site (it isn't cooperating with me).

Pic is upside down, but you get the point.  It looks like I have reached the end of my journey with foam, but looks are deceiving!  I still had another 3 feet to go, and it wasn't easy!!  My hands hate me, good thing I had the K-bar by my side!

Looks very similar to the Tahitis http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?topic=462.0  , except for the angled gauges.  I remember Old Rigger saying something about those angled gauges, but cant remember what he said.  I want to say it had something to do with Hawaiian boats  ???

Nice looking boat,  Got to love that foam  ::) ::)

I think Mantra splashed several different boats.  Mine is a Sleekcraft splash and even says Sleekcraft on the title.  HIN clearly proves it is a Mantra.  Mine was also laid up very lite and had no foam under the deck.  Had no support either so has a crack where someone stepped on it.  Just more to fix.   ::)  Mine is also a 77 and does not have the angled guages nor are the stringers as heavy as yours.  Yours must have been rigged for a different purpose at the factory as mine also had a Jacuzzi pump.  What is your HIN?
