Hey guys, I'm new to SoCal so take it easy on me as I'm new to the jetty scene. I've done a lot of homework but there's still MUCH to learn. What I've got is a 1980 Ervin Capps Condor 5.5 I bought the hull and trailer for $300! Trailer I think was totaled tho looks like it may of been jack knifed at some point. Since I've picked it up I've gotten my hands on a mercruiser 260hp chevy 350 which I have sittin it now, a set of log exhaust headers, some old front seats, and I have some stuff for a 460. Anyways the boat is 18ft equipped with a berkeley 12je I think an a cut impeller. Also have a berkeley 12jc pump housing with no internals. Anyway this will be a slow build and I'm sure ill be asking lots of questions so any tips and info along the way would be appreciated!! And I'll try and post as many pictures as I can. I can't seem to find but 2 or 3 other condor 5.5's on the web so I'm thinking this is a pretty rare boat to come across.

Thanks! Just another guy with boat fever >:D lol. Anyways i had a quick question for everbody, since i havent really gotten to far into this yet, i wanted to lay out what i had planned to do. What im thinking is come this winter i want to re gel or paint, build the interior and motor and do all the wiring pluming ect.. BUT like i said i have this 4 bolt mail chevy 350.. ive been told that its small displacement just wouldnt put out enough torque to get this 18 footer up and moving.. since i have everything but headers to do a 460 should i sell the 350 and try and get ahold of a 460? The only thing is a sbc is cheappppp power, it would cost much to get some hp out of it..?

A moderate small block build will run that thing just fine. The only place you might have an issue would be trying to get over 55-65mph, depending on how well the hull works in the water.
I'd say put it together with what you have, run it, make changes, run it some more, and then replace it with one that you'll find and can't resist.

Yeah I'd like to see 70, I read this guy that has an all original condor 5.5 with a stock 460 ran 65.. So.. I guess I'll see what happens. Probably throw on a set of aluminum heads, high rise intake and a good carb set up and see what she'll do.
