Title: 1980 Miller
Post by: NMMiller on August 17, 2017, 11:13:25 PM
Dug this thing out of my old mans hay barn. Started on it Saturday. Been sitting about 10 years. Lots of work to do. Any input is appreciated. So far we've dug out about 10 buckets of dirt, removed all carpet, wiring, fuel tanks. And replaced all bad seats

So I think I am going to just reseal those motor mount holes, then use aluminum plate and I think it should be fine

Glassing the tanks in after cleaning and new copper pick up tubes. As well as addressing other areas that needed sealed or glassed

Found these pretty sweet boxes on speedway, figured I'd probably mount a second battery over the winter. The old box was a steel plate with steel angle... not good

Quick question? Alternator wire that goes to ignition has a diode, is that old points set up? I'm running HEI so is this necessary?

Jet ski junked my shit. Second time out in the hot rod I'm pulling into camp, almost to a idle and a jet ski renter turned right into me. Guy was looking at the beach the entire time and never even saw me

I got it turned just enough that the guy didn't hit me at a direct 90. He was doing about 35 and probably would of put a hole right in my hot rod. Hit me so hard it spun the boat around. Found out this morning guy ended up with 3 broken ribs and punctured lung. Supposedly he is stable and gonna be ok. Scary moment

Wow, that sucks.

Millers are BAD ASS Battle Ships.

Glad nobody was hurt.

So, the rental Co. Is required to have insurance.

That would be my next step.

Right, they said they want to repair it without going through insurance. Which works for me. The guy on the ski broke 3 ribs and punctured lung. My buddy said he saw him earlier driving 3ft away from a hazard buoy.

Yeah it was wild, you have a jet boat? I'm trying to get a group started for next year and maybe hit up one of the SoCal trips to havasu or something. There used to be a ton of jet boats around this area need to get those guys to pull them out of the weeds

Use to, i need to pick up another one. I had a few of them, the main one I ran around the butte on was the blue sleekcraft called obnoxious. Moved out to queen creek in Phoenix this past year for work. I got back and forth to cruces and Phoenix and havasu pretty often. I'll shoot you a PM

So I insured my boat the day before I got in the accident. Of course the rental place is being a pain with getting my boat fixed. Anyway I haven't told my insurance yet however I just received a letter saying my policy will end next month do to it being high performance? I'm assuming just because it has headers... what a joke it was sold from the factory that way and they are perfectly legal. So how do I get insured?

I don't have insurance quite yet on the bahner but is on the front burner for sure.
I've seen a bunch of guys on here that are very happy with it.
She's hip on jet boats  knows the makes and model plus the crazy shit we do to them so the coverage is out there it's up to you  how much of what you got you wanna cover.

As quickly as possible you need to take the boat to a qualified shop and get an estimate. Probably 3 of 'em.

Then send estimate(s) to the jet ski rental company. Certified Mail, Signature required. Notify him that you have already contacted the State of New Mexico Attorney General.

And, Well , notify the Attorney General.

Try Here: http://www.nmag.gov/file-a-complaint.aspx

This is NO BULLSHIT.

Fawker hit your boat. He Better Pay up.

Well I got my ass handed to me by a bass boat. I did have 4 people in the boat, but he walked me bad. What's next? my buddy recommended a blower... 454, performance heads. Roller cam. I believe it's a AA impeller, droop. Thought it ran good till that guy drove right by me. Boat only turns 4,000 but I don't wanna be sucking fuel like a B impeller is what my old man said he had in it before. Like to turn about 4,800 wide open I think.

I'm thinking the same thing. It's healthy for sure, and phone gps I've had it up to 65 with probably a lil more to go. Just crazy how fast some of those fishing boats are.

Has the engine been apart yet?  I would start looking into what exactly you have now.  From there, you can make educated decisions on where to go.

Judging by your RPM with both a AA and a B cut, I'm going to make a guess that you have very low compression.  Any change in cylinder heads, cam, and intake will result in lower cylinder pressure and reduced efficiency and power without increasing compression.

Could make some suggestions if you wanted to describe your current engine combo.  Even compression test numbers would help.

Good luck,

Joe
