Pulled the motor and dropped the pan and pulled a valve cover...everything has a nice dusting of surface rust on it. Oil was sludge.

I ran the piss out of a cast crank, 2 bolt main, 049 head motor for years and then circle raced it for a couple years.
Sold it to 2sav and he ran it for a little while then sold the motor with a boat...
You guys are falling asleep on these cast chevy parts.
What do I know though, my junk only runs reliably season after season....

your right I use to work in a machine shop and we built motor's for a guy that raced at Ascot we used a cast crank sbc and just threw the crank away after a season but we never lost an engine
