Trailer Mover
« on: October 16, 2013, 07:43:25 AM »
I know some of you guys can use one of these so stay posted and pass on any suggestions.

So this is being built off a set of plans that a buddy purchased and he gave me a copy.  I'm making slight modifications since the plans are a bit overkill for what I'm moving.  Started with 3/8"x3" plate for the main frame and receiver support. The base is 1/2"x3 1/2" plate where the axle and bearings will mount, then 4" length of receiver stock for the hitch.  Cleaned up all the edges and clamped it all in place to check square at each point.  I should have the axle and flanges later this week for a better idea of how it will work, not sure if i'm going to stay with the plans on the motor components or create my own drive.  We will see as this thing progresses.

im looking at building one as well.  having a tandem (and going triple) while having to make a 90* turn with the 21 is almost impossible and using the truck to back it in left my driveway with a bunch of black tire marks all over it that took FOREVER to power wash off. i found a guy on youtube that uses a 12v battery and a starter motor (which has plenty of torque) to drive the thing.

I'm shooting to build this one with atv or golf cart wheels to help with the traction issues that the power caster has sometimes. Also let's me drag it around on uneven or off-road surfaces. Can't wait to test this theory.

Got a spicer axle out of a older golf cart. Motor, drum brakes, tires and all taking up space. Need to give up the hopes of using it to make a mini desert truck and get it out of the garage.

The plans call for a winch motor with some modifications to the drive that allow a sprocket to be attached.  I'm looking into other options but on an expense level the winch motor seems to be the cheapest route so far.  Here's a pic of what the final product should look like.

More parts arrived yesterday. Now have the axle, wheel hubs, and sprocket hub installed along with some tires off a lifted golf cart.  The tires are a bit larger than required but were a pretty good deal and if they don't work out I can pass them off to my folks for their cart.  Mounted everything for a quick test run and this thing is going to be rediculous when finished.  Overkill? Nope!
