« on: August 19, 2008, 09:07:03 PM »
Hope you folks will enjoy this transformation , In the 70's the Company "Drake" (Drake/Offenhauser fame ) decided to go into jet drive business ,by our count they made somewhere around 600+ units , this jet is Humongous and not sure how it worked (or not) (3 blade impeller) but this boats getting the Berkeley change over "swaparoony" Heres the start, lots of "Grunt work"  ! Tom

Are you doing just the jet change over, or are you doing a complete build?

Looking forward to the education either way  ;D

I think I remember reading some stuff about the Drake's in a magazine my dad had, it was origionally developed for the Navy, but it never took off. They work good on low RPM cruisers,  they were only good for about 4400 Rpm, then they cavitated to the point of destruction.

Built some "spacers" rails to widen the berk vs trying to narrow the Drake cut out hole , then set the Berk intake today (bye bye Drake)

Hey Tom-
which berkly is that?  Are they decent??

12jc offers very good basic performance and lends itself easily to loads of mods and Improvements. That entire Berk Pump family (which has changed very little in 30+ yrs) has been the "Gold standard" for years for this sport . As is not uncommon with many products others have come along and "honed" and improved those original basic designs. A/T has IMO been one of the innovators who didn't accept status quo and kept working on upgrades and improvements to basic designs for better perfomance and efficiancy and longevity. When money is not an object we start with a New Dominator  Tom

Hey I said, "One of" the best, meaning it's in the top 5 for jet pumps.

But yeah, GT that's a better statement and more what I was trying to get at.

Thanks. :D
