heres a little information on my boat.
its a 1978 21ft omaga california daycruiser jet boat
open bow conversion
460 ford bigblock and a jacuzzi wj pump w. place diverter
SO AFTER... many months and a few discussions with other jet boaters i decided to bite the bullet and replace my loose soggy floor
i really love my cruiser, and i had a strong feeling it was really water logged under there....seemed like in the last 2 years the boat slowed down like 10 miles per hour.....and now it was time for action! i took the cruiser to the crazy eights speed lab at the super secret location.!
brad and i started by taking out the "needs help"460 ford......drained the oil and started the teardown....stripped to the short block...waiting on the stand for some alone time.....
next we started to pull out the interior piece by piece, and pulling all the hardware off the floor...waiting for demolition day!
which came today........ripped up 1/2 the carpet to see the sorry ass floor .....some spots soggy wood, some cracked up fiberglass all cracking under our weight as we walked around the floor since the interior was out....it was ugly.....but thats not the half of it!
more to come as well as pictures of the action!

Great time to decide on a new look....Do you have a ski locker or coolers under seats. Get the pics up....

ripping up the carpet to expose the floor..... :-\

Good luck with the rebulid, know what your going through doing the same with my foat plus new paint :banghead:
-
we pulled up the floor from the transom up to the dash....i'd say it was 95% rotted.....most of it was the consistency of potting mulch. The resin and glass in some areas and also the carpet were the only things holding the floor up. If there wasnt foam filled under the floor, it woulda had holes in it for sure lol.
the way we are going to do the new floor is have drainage points all over so no water can be trapped anywhere as long as he parks it with some upwards angle in the bow. It will be good better then it was when it rolled off the showroom floor and last for another 40+ years.

How are the stringers?
-
Do you plan on a dog house or are you going to make a hatch? With a open bow, a hatch could hide a few things and give strippers a place to sunbathe.

the upholstery in the boat is in great condition and we arent going to mess with it for now....just going to redo the floors and lay down some new carpet.

How are the stringers?
amazingly they arent bad at all. you can see some discoloration in the wood, but they dont flex at all. He has the 3 point mounts and I was standing on the mounts and bounced on it a bit and they didnt flex. He got lucky there.

i do have a ski locker in the middle and i love it...great for "recycled" boat sodas and other trash but it gets really nasty when oil from the bildge flows up there.....so were going to fix that problem on drainage...and no plans for any coolers as of yet....keeping the interion in tact and repairing what i can...

im going to stick with the doghouse cover for now, and going to rebuild the little jump seats on the sides...they seemed to have taken a drownding and most of the abuse from getting in and out of the water via swim step....i already have a place for everything under the seats, this boat has great storage, everything is put away and is very accessable, one of my favorite parts about the boat!
any other questions or comments ? keep um comin if ya got um....thanks!

its been talked about..maybe splicing them in but we have to finish gutting it out first and make a game plan

we arent going to touch the stringers, but there will be floor joists running the length of the boat.
-
damn its been weeks .....i need to get back to the lab..and get going on this cruiser....
-
Well i just got the boat back from the boat shop over the weekend.
I bit the bullet and sent it out to have the floor and support joists installed and glassed. The boat has been sitting on the trailer for about 2 seasons .
The shop was worried the floor and supports cut out for so long.

There was a good sized hook in bottom of boat on the left rear...the shop used bottle jacks and weights to straiten up the bottom.
my boat is only a quarter stringer boat...the shop ground down the floor fiberglass and rebuilt the floor supports glassed in the supports, boxed in the ski locker and all new 9 layer 3/4 plywood glassed and sealed.
1400.00 and 3 1/2 weeks to get it back.

Doing this exact thing to mine. Did they lay a sheet of glass over the wood gloors too? Or is it just sealed w the resin? Never done any kind of glqss work here. I may have lots of questions. I'm just at the demo stage right now.
