motoris in need to plumb fuel lines carb dist and other stuff
-
ok so yeterday tried n fire her up and had to pull carb 5 times and then fried my starter :banghead: gonna head outside and try again lets see what happens gonna rewire her first
-
ok today new starter in motor fired but worried cuz distributor seems to have a shake or rock :screwy: to it not engine vibration so we decided to do all wiring in the boat over. Over all today was good :D here are pics of process
-
this is one time i wish i had a daughter might be better at this
-
Why not twist them with a drill ::)
-
i replied to your PM about the distributor.
Project looks like its coming along quite well
-
F me two steps forward and 5 steps back so i tried to pull distributor and it wouldnt budge tried bumping it gently prying it and nothing so in anger gave it a good tug and whole shaft stays in and top of distributor comes out. so we try vise grips and nothing so my people say lets put on two vise grips and use engine hoist and pull it out noooooooooo :screwy: so after thinking (ya i know it hurt) i say lets pull plugs and rock motor back and forth a bit and ill try and lift it out and that worked thank u lil baby jesus. lucky the teeth were not hurt. brad tried and help me by showing me where to get a new cheap hei thanks man but the shaft and gear on it were seperate and did not have any way to lock together so im just gonna bite the bullet and B.O.A.T and get a kick ass one. good side more wiring done added a bow n stern light tomorrow wiring should be done just have to order hei and wait :( here are some pics guys

Why not twist them with a drill ::)

ok so today went well stopped at west marine and picked up 2 herse n cole pull switches(20$ EACH GOOD LORD THATS ALOT OF $) one for lights(10amp inline fuse) n one for fuel pump(5amp inline fuse) and matching ignition switchmounted and wired those finished rewire on whole boat(cuz of nikka rigging). i do have a question though when key is on my fuel gages peg down not rise i wired as follows from center of sender to gage and outside bolt to tank ground then to boat ground senders look original is that right???? anyone have pics of their old or original senders on tank???? Also do i need to fuse battery hot to ignition or starter hot??? put in a new 750gph automatic bilge pump straight to battery 5amp fuse and cleaned and hung wiring loom. heres pics ;D
-
more pics and new mallory distributor will be here by 1030am should run tomorrow n test wed ;D
-
Good stuff!

are the tanks grounded? are the senders the same ohm rating as your gauges?
my battery to ignition sw has a fuse.... i fuse everything. in a boat stuff bounces around and if it wears through or gets cut, you have a short and short = fire. not good.
i also have a switch on my dash to manually turn on the bilge pump. it takes a LOT of water back there to actually kick on the floater switch. the pump usually comes with a diagram in the instructions to wire it this way as well.
-
X2 on the manual switch for the bilge, and I have a capacitance based sending unit in my fuel tank instead of a float. You have to match it with the correct gauge.
-
so how do i wire pomp to do both
-
Looks good!!:D

got new distributor this morning :D installed it redid firing order then moved to trailer lights and rewired those too while waiting for my boy who kept sayng ooo man this but im still coming and then that but im still coming never showed so it was just me then another buddy stopps by and i figure i could use him to help fire it up so i opened choke on carb had em turn it over starter clicked no rotation so i scratch my head and he says what size wire on starter i say 10awg n climbed under to check 18awg :banghead: so reran a 10 awg wire and bamb rotation sputered tell em stop switch retarded dizzy tell try again she tries to start and he starts smashing on gas pedal trying to help but not  boom huge fire ball out carb so im like "wtf i got choke open shell start on her own i to;d u dont rev it" he says "hows choke open" i say "with the vise grips i used to hold it open" look up as he says "i thought those were in the way i put em away while u were doing the starter wire" :banghead: :screwy: "go home ill do this tomorrow" didnt take many pics but here
-
when you talk about the starter wire are you talking about the main power wire to the battery or the solenoid wire? you should have a 0 gauge battery cable to the battery and then a 10awg solenoid wire is more than enough. make sure its fused. ^-^

is that pic of your distributor? are you sure the cap is on all the way? that looks like a key which probably matches up with a notch on the cap... plus it looks crooked. are you sure your timing is correct, that you plopped the distributor in at TDC and then rotated it to get the proper base timing so you can start it?
-
ya silenoid 10 adding fuses tomorrow and the dizzy pic was how it came out the box took pic for summit cuz they said they would send a new cap if i broke it from being forced on to ship to me(spring couldnt compress anymore it was so tight). put it in at tdc used a balloon on a fuel line and an AN fitting to screw in plug hole i think im close i turned switch with fuel pump off after the fire ball and she fired for a second tomoorow hopefully i get it right and get to mead for a test in water. ive been working pertty long days on her straight just getting anxious my boy killed it for me today slammin(wot pumping) on gas had to stop or i was gonna probly choke em >:D

Ok so today started off good, ended alright it was the middle that fukin suckeded. Ok so got the motor to fire (run) so decide we're gonna time it, started it ran over to the water hose turned it on water was flowing through the jet went to turn the gate valve to turn water on to the block grabbed the timing light then realized theres no water exiting the motor. Shut off the water, shut off the motor and thought maybe I didn't open the gate valve enough at the Y and all the water was just going to the jet, so I told my boy start it again and I again turned on the water hose with the gate valve more open. Still no water coming out of the block, luckily I had the headers turned off cause I walked around the back of the boat and stuck my finger in the drain and its sucking air in :banghead: WTF and I shut it all off. Took a look at my plumbing more closely that my dude helped me with and upon further examination this motherfer had the drain hose plugged in to the intake where you can put a vaccum line right above the number eight cylinder :screwy: GD it, looked in the front of intake where it should have been and he plugged that. Here's where the plot thickens, because the hose was plumbed on the intake where it was I put the bilge pump on the other side (left) and the fuel pump on the right and the side of the intake that was being used for the fukin headers is on the left side of the block, the header valve is mounted to the right side of my back seat, so its all fukin backwards :banghead:  :screwy:  :o so I cut all the plumbing out, didnt get to time the motor, had to go to home depot for all new hoses and have to redo everything tomorrow, so it looks like Im probably going to miss the gathering this weekend because I have to replumb, rewire, time, put in carpet and seats and havent tested it in water yet >:( I didnt take any pics today Ill do it tomorrow
-
and looked at title tonight i dont even know what im building 1976 sleekcraft kauai :screwy:
-
rather than trying to rush, i think at this point you should just tackle one thing at a time... it sounds like you're one wrong hose hookup from it all going up in flames or sinking...
someone here once said "go slow, you'll go faster in the long run..." i think it applies perfectly.
-
ur right was just trying to make avi really wanted to meet everyone next trip i guess.
-
yesterday had to tattoo last payment for my title so today i finished plumbing and rebuilt 600cfm edlebrock(first time) cuz holley 850 was way to much gas.Anyone here in vegas wanna help me time her?????? tomorrow ill get pics of plumbing heres what i got from today
-
:Drebuilt the carb it works just need to install seats n carpet
-
interior in n tomorrow lake test at secret location muahahaha >:D keeping my fingers crossed she floats

ok god hates me got it in the water and pump leaks from drive line just behind zerk fitting on suction housing just a drip then where the bowl bolts down had a decent leak but figured bilge pump could handle it just to check motor out (had visions of icecreammans jet in my mind) so i still fired it up and pump whined could hear whine resonate through hull like it was singing a bad song did dognuts in the marina and took her out of the water. anyoe have ideas???? or just rebuild whole pump and how hard is that?????
-
A whine from the pump could mean a bearing issue, do you know when the last time it was opened up? Jet Boat Performance or CP Performance have good prices on pump rebuild kits but you will need a few special tools to make life easier like an impellor nut socket and bushing/bearing drivers. With the amount of work you have already done a pump rebuild should be pretty easy, just read through the Berkeley manual and ask any questions before you start.
-
The slight leak from the packing rope is normal(the shaft area entering the pump near that zerk fitting), this is to keep the shaft cool and lubricated somewhat. The bowl leak though I would be pretty concerned with, lots of pressure builds there and could get nasty if you ran enough rpm into it.
-
been totally bummed out havent touched her a bit :'( n now i have to leave to LA and santa barbara for a month hopefully when i get home ill get to start on rebuilding the jet
-
even though she didnt do good with needing jet rebuilt here is pics of her before test drive
-
more pics
-
ok so i went out to remove my jet n i realized i forgot to grease my u joints so i thaught that might have caused the whine n maybe not the jet also as i was digging in the jet i found all the seals in transom plate were missing so my bud says why dont we maguiver this n get it wet n see if these r truely the problems it had. i was gonna remove n rebuild the jet but the bowl plugs r brass n it seems like they braised themselves in n the zerk on the suction housing only has about 2 turns of thread so now i want to replace the jetbut my budget is only for a rebuild so i fudge it let get our maguiver on :screwy: i know dumb but i need to save more bread. so i used o rings to make the steering tube seal n some fuel hose n clamp n a whole lot of silacone to try and seal transom then moved to trying to get my motor timed better my timing light broke so refound tdc am reset the dampner my boy put on wrong and reset the dizzy and tht went good it fires faster idles smoother so then i moved to fuel air mixture. i have an edlebrock 600cfm carb while adjustng passsenger side i turned it down n made it stumle then backed out bout half a turn then move to the driver side and turned it all the way in n motor didnt change at all wtf. what would cause that what can i do guys? also idles very good steady n clean when at 2000 rpm has about a 200 rpm change up n down doesnt hold steady 2500 3000 rpm smooth again???? any thaughts im not a mechanic just a tattooer with some common sense even though first part of this doesnt support last statement
-
Getting back to work hopefully she is wet this spring. Got this today and going to send it to willys carb n they will rebuild and flow to my motor specs and refit for marine use stoked
-
So this build i think is dead got a new boat better jet nicer paint gonna pull motor n sell chheeeaaappp. New stringer floor wiring bulkhead. Will list after motor swap
