Just got word from the head shop the heads are in good shape. They just need the old grease cleaned out from sitting since '95, lap the valves in and put 'em back on.
Looks like it'll be getting wet here pretty quick.....

Got the heads back (couple minor issues but they're good now), put the piston back in and cleaned out the pan. All SORTS of nastiness in there over 20 years. Found a couple other things that needed to be addressed, so it was a good thing it came out and apart.
Pan and motor plates back go on tomorrow, should be dropping it back in and firing it this weekend

Almost have the engine re-assembled but won't be able to fire it for a few days. After installing the lifters I started checking and cleaning the pushrods. There were only a few left and I noticed one looked different. After trying to blow it out I noticed one end didn't have an oil hole. Glad I caught it now, so tomorrow the engine goes back in and will have to wait for a replacement.

As I've dug in to this I've found a few things that make me shake my head. It was weird..... as I was putting the lifters in, I was thinking ahead and wondered how stupid would it be if there a pushrod with no oil hole. Someone put quite a bit of money into it years ago, but the attention to detail in assembly doesn't match the quality of parts. Fixing what I can one part at a time......

Replacement pushrod's here and in. Tightened down the remote filter lines, through 5 quarts in the valley and spun the pump with the priming tool. Oil pressure reading on the gauge! Oil to the rockers! Damn it's close......

Fair enough, but there's still more work to do even after I get it fired. I'm at the Shack every other weekend, so that limits how much I can get done. 4 weekends (and misc weekdays) to get something back on the water that's been sitting for 20 years really is kinda haulin' ass.......
I'll video it when I fire it.

If I could find a couple upholstered fiberglass buckets pretty quick (at a killer price) it could get wet sooner. Of course then it wouldn't be a family boat......

Well, kind of a family boat. The boys don't come out to the river anymore, and the wife refuses to ride in this (she learned her lesson with the Stevens flatbottom), so it's a "rest of the family" boat (me).

CHP VIN verifier inspected the trailer and gave it the official State O' California VIN, so now everything is ready to register and get some new trailer tires on it. Along with that will be the joy of breaking down all the hubs to clean and lube them.

Went to install the tunnel ram tonite and only had the .060" thick intake gaskets. Ordered the .120" Mr Gaskets which should be here tomorrow or Thursday. Won't be able to install the TR and fire it this weekend since we'll be at the Shack this weekend taking the cruiser out.

Tunnel ram's back on, and am about 99% done reassembling it. Light and wiring on the trailer is straightened out and it gets new shoes this weekend. Hope to fire it this weekend and get it sorted out.

Keeping the "period correct" modular wheels that are on it. I'm putting passenger car tires (185-70r14) on it as it doesn't weigh anything and has little sidewall loading.

Here's what I WANT to put on it, but I may face some resistance.....

I'm a sucker for Halibrand-style wheels. I had them on my flatbottom trailer and it made the look.
