Title: alternator brackets sparking
Post by: Bahner 818 on June 11, 2020, 10:36:28 PM
Boat has been sitting for a good 3 years. 400 hours on a 502. sucked gas out a month ago and put new gas and started running it good idle on the side yard twice a week for that last month. i checked alternator and it was showing low output. took it to get tested at a shop and they said the regulator connections were not connected. They connected and said it was good. i put it on boat and it sparks from the alternator bracket. fuel pump works when alternator is off alternator bracket. when i tighten bolts it sparks and fuel pump does not turn on. HELP!!! Im going to needles to tomorrow for the weekend and might not take the boat if i can't figure it out.

Did you check the ground wire? It could be loose

It sounds like you might need to take the alternator back to the shop and have them look at it again.

Yeah have em look at the alt again or just run it without the alt for the weekend just make sure you have your battery charged and a spare in case so you can still enjoy your trip

Agreed with Mantra. My bracket came lose at the beginning of a long weekend and burned my belt right off(all that ford power, lol). Didnt have an alternator the whole weekend and ran fine.......as long as your battery is strong. Didn't ruin my weekend.
