Bebos Hondo
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:49:37 PM »
Hi this is Bebo and I am 13 years old. I love this website. You guys really know about boats. Here is my 1977 Hondo jet boat that I got for FREE. It came with the boat, the trailer and lots of parts. I also got a free 454 from my dads friend. It needs to be redone, but I have almost all the parts. Here are some pics.

Hello SCJB! My name is Frank and I am Bebo's dad. I have been checking out this site from the shadows for quite a while. What an awesome site. It never ceases to amaze me as to the amount of knowledge you guys have. I am looking forward to working on this project with Bebo and tapping into you all as resources. It should be a lot of fun for both Bebo and I.

Welcome you two,
I bought my first boat before I had a car--a long time ago. And my son put his first project boat together when he was 15 or so, about 10 years ago. Now he has his own "dream" boat, I think the third or fourth he's done. He lives down there near you in Azusa and works as a Jaguar technician.

BTW that hondo hull is a good one. It's the same as one I got from boost last summer and sold (Jason, where are you?) just last month. Have fun putting it together, and we'll see you on the water soon.

Hey guys,
I was looking a little closer at your boat, and I'm not sure it is a '77 hondo--hondo jets did not have rounded transoms, all the hondos I've seen had full length stringers, and the bow has different shape (more of a "southwind" shape) with a deeper entry. Is there a HIN stamped on the back right transom? What is written on the title/registration (is there any)? Might be an older model hondo--late 60s, early 70s--the hondo flat bottoms did have the rounded transoms and they were the models for the early jets. Might be time for a little research or expert SJB input.

I checked out the transom for a HIN but if there was one it has long been gone due to glass work. There is one on the reg though. I just noticed that the reg shows that it is a '79 not a '77. Didn't pay much attention to the reg since the guy gave it to us. He told us it was a '77. I will get Bebo to do some research today. Thanks for the input.

Frank

By the way Pete, I know that this hull is very similar to the boat you got from Boost. I was checking out the thread about that boat since he had it. Beautiful boat.

Welcome to Bebo and your Pops , Cant think of a better way to help bond a father son relation ship than to work together on a "Hot Rod" My son has been working with me since he was Toddler and hes now my Vp and chief engineer, Your boat looks like a great project and has a lot of potential , Lots of the Guys here on the board are both "the Sons' and some "the Fathers" in projects in similar projects and co-ventures and I'm certain you'll find lots of help ,guidance and friend ship here, Very cool deal indeed. Regarding your specific boat hull ,with all due respect I'm not entirely sure its a Hondo ,although the title might say so ,I dont recall seeing a Hondo hull that was partial stringer/motor box design and shape of your boat makes me think its  maybe a different hull builder. If theres an HIN number on the right rear of the transon it will tell the story. Please keep us posted and take lots of pictures as you go don't hesistate to ask lots of questions and let me know if we at JBP can pitch in to help on some of the pieces your missing we like others here have lots of used pieces to defray some of the expenses of a project like this Good Luck Tom

here a Hondo we restored a few years back and a couple others (to follow ) for you to look at :

heres a few more at the shop :

Hey guys, welcome to the family, awsome little project you have there.

My son (14 years old) my dad and I have been going to some of the races around California and Oregon since he was really little, we recently started checking out some of the circle racing action in socal, you should check it out, my dad and I have built several boats together and my son is just now starting to take some interest in boats as well (when I can get him away from the Nintendo long enough  :screwy: ), I wish you guys great success and have fun with it. Welcome to the family, family  ;D

welcome to the site quys, what a great way to start a project together, this is something you both will remember for the rest of your lives, some of my fondest (and saddest memories unfortunatly) are of working on the boats with my father before he passed.  If you have been lurking, i am sure you know the number one rule of scjb----------pictures are a must ;D  so keep them coming and again, welcome aboard

Bebo and my oldest son Brandon got the boat out today and installed the new bunks which have been sitting in the garage pissing off my wife for the last month. Thanks to a previous thread about pulling the boat off the trailer we had the confidence to do it in the front yard. I am sure that my neighbors loved me. The boys have been really motivated lately.
The bunks look great. We are planning on sandblasting and priming, maybe even painting the trailer when we go to my father in laws house in Central Cali for a family reunion in June. Hey Nathan 72, we will be coming up your way to Atwater, hows that for a small world! If anyone needs something shuttled up to the Merced area from the LA area in late June just let me know.
