This interior went back into the Omega.. I want it done right.. This ride WONT be pieced together from other boat parts well atleast not from the Omega ;D
Soooooooo throw me some ideas on the upholstery..... Oh ya Brad i need some more stickers :-*
New boat, trailer, back window and how about a deal on the big one for my windshield ;D Just because im an AZ boy dont mean i cant represent.........

how much are they doing the interior for?

Depending on how much carpet they use, Right around 1K
My last 2 boats they did i spent Over 2K each :o

We hand built this and paid $800 to get it uphulstered.

I'd say that at least 80% of the people on this board think my color choices and photoshopped paint schemes are disgusting and that my artistic ability is low, I agree with that 80+% on the artistic ability. You may want some advice from a pro. BUT >:D if I get a chance I'll phuck with it in photoshop, changing the interior color is a lot easier and faster than doing a photoshopped paint job. Spare time is gone, now that I am working and all... [attachimg=#]

HOLY SHIT 2K WHEN I DID MINE I MADE MY OWN SEATS (JUST COPIED THE ONES THAT WERE IN THERE ALREADY). AND THEY CHARGED ME 300.00 AND THAT WAS TWO SEATS TWO BENCHES A PULLEY COVER SIDE PANELS TO COVER THE TANKS AND A REAR PIECE. WHITE WITH BLUE AND ORANGE STRIPES AND BLUE PIPING. THE THE CARPET WAS 350.00 ALL THE WAY TO THE NOSE.
-
damn, i need to find your guys upholstery shops, the ones i have checked with have all been 700+ to recover my seats, 2 buckets and bench, just recover no wood or foam, and one place wants 350.00 just to change the piping to another color, nothing else replaced :banghead:

Dude, gotta have white seats. The light blue or mustard yellow base doesn't look good IMHO. How about a white base, with yellow stripes, and blue trim on the edges

Wife say's dark blue trim :banghead:

Adobe Photoshop 7.0, a quite awhile ago friend of mine hooked me up with the program when he built my computer for me. Another friend sat me down at my computer for about a half hour several years ago and showed me some sh!t. Just been playing with the program here and there ever since. But seriously though, I suck at it, pro's can use this program and make it look totaly "real".
Darker?

Does it leak? Maybe pour some water in there and see if any drips out. If the bottom is epoxied it shouldn't leak. Is the bottom of the boat covered up the bolts?

I've heard you use marine bondo for that shinizle

if you want to patch it quick and get it doen with.....marc and i tried using some of that bondo glass when we filled in the gauge holes on the liberty....that stuff is nice....but kicks REAL quick.....make several small batches instead of one big one.
if you got time ...use some of the sea goin poxy putty....the downside is that it takes a day to cure.
how was the left foot pedal mounted? i got a setup like that, but theres nothing to mount the left pedal to. I need some ideas.

Brad, you got that right. Almost cures before you get it mixed.

I've bought sea goin poxy putty at my local boat shop. If you dont want to wait for shipping I would check that first, its pretty common stuff.

I believe Walmart carries Sea Goin epoxy

Pull the fin out and set it back in with the poxy putty . Hardest part is going to be pulling it out . When that shit is dry . It is in there for good . Dont buy the smallest one they have . It almost wasnt enough for mine .

I haven't counted, but it was probably around 10 last year. But the one boat that was purchased as a keeper before all of those 10 I still have and am still keeping. ;) Most were purchased with known hull/stringer problem's and I never planned on fixing them. Probably the only one I purchased with known wood rot problem's that I planned on fixing at the time of purchase would be the Hawiian I got from Ralph, I never intended on keeping that one either, I planned on fixing it and resaling it, but I got intimidated on the wood rot (at that point I hadn't tried repairing wood rot yet) and regretfully resold it instead.

Wow! Nice progress. You are almost there. I had to make list of things in my life that made me extremely happy (in a writing class at school) today. Near the top of my list was my first ride in my boat after doing only some of the things you have done to get it in the water. I went from an obsession to a love affair that Sunny spring day at Lake Elsinore ;D
Your hard work will pay off, and soon from the looks of it.

Why are you running the two wedges with the droop? You have inside info??
I have no idea which one you cut, but I bet Tom knows. I've never seen a cone like that before.
Looking good...
-
im not sure what im looking at....
youre saying the cone on the bowl is hitting the vane in the droop? is that an agressor droop?
i was told to cut the vane out of the agressor droop i am using. it serves no purpose and was only put there to offset the patent protection on the berk droop. dont know if that holds any water, but its what i was told.
-
You can notch the divider a bit. Or you can get an original aluminum Berkeley plug (shorter).
As far as the divider thats an argument right up there with Ford/Chevy etc.... I was told by not one but two different pump manufactures that it is in there to help equalize pressure differencials or something to that effect. I believe they also stated that the vertical divider, was not only easier to cast but also help more than the horizontal one. It also further helps to straighten out the flow.
-
I don't think I'm giving up any 30 year old trade secrets concerning two wedges. If you have a 12JR pump they are double drilled and if you have 2-6 degree wedges you can have any combination of 12 degrees up or down by 1 degree steps by rotating the wedges one clockwise one counterclockwise. Someone I remember even engraved them so you could just match up the marks for a specific angle. Worked slick when you were adjusting to water conditions at the track. It would take some special length bolts though depending on what amount of wedge you needed.

well, in that case, i will be leaving mine in ;)

Well i have to do something, and it looks like im going to notch it a bit. 3/4-1" Is that too much?

Just see how much you are deficiant and cut a v shape out of the middle of the divider, Error on the side of caution and cut it a lil big, incase you change wedges later or what not. If memory serves me Aggressors came that way.

I think i figured it out....... I put the starter on first then the motorplate and then flexplate.
I took the starter off and BAM it spins without hitting anything......... so i might need to notch out the motorplate a little more to fit the starter right? Or pick up a high torque..Its the cone on the starter that wont fit right in the plate,so it bowed it out
NO MO SHORTCUTS :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

if you move it forward just pay attention to the angle, it may change. I dont think it would change much but, just check it before you drill new holes

X2, definately!
-
i will have to agree my driveline is similar to the middle one, and it makes it nice for removal as brad said
-
Mine is like the one on the right, what a b*tch it was to replace the joints.
If I had a choice I would go with one of the center ones.
Just be sure to recheck/retighten all mounting bolts after running it the first time (I found the bolts on Brads loose on Saturday, they almost got missed).

Um no, i used Black rtv silicon. I went to the parts house and they looked at me like i was stupid ???
Gaskets are everywhere's online but not in Bullhead :banghead:
Besides Terry said he dont even use a gasket, soooo......... i put 2 and 2 together and used silicon ;D
Im trying to get this bitch done, i cant wait till June..

The upholstery guy called today and said its all done ;D But he said he needs the other seat to add foam to it ??? Am i wrong but i thought the foam was added to the seat cover , not the seat itself. So i guess when i take off the cover there will still be foam in the seat.............Is this the right way guy's?? I have a feeling i might not be happy with this job :banghead:
Well i ran out of money so i cant buy any parts , but i had a lot of rubbing compound and wax ;D
And only 2 beers :'(
It really shines now.......

My guy glued 1-1/2 foam inside the buckets.....

Most upholstery will only have a thin piece of foam attached to the cover, most of the padding will be glued to the wood.
-
DAAAMMN 2sav, that looks great for only 2 beers ;) !! And dont worry about the seats, thats the way thay were on mine when I took them apart to change some of the wood. ;D

same with the seats out of ralphs liberty that i have yet to finish :-[

Good news ;) The last set of fiberglass seats i had were in my sandrail.......they had the padding built into the cover. I guess they are different for boats..Thats good new's , thanks guy's ;D
I was ready to go to the upholstery shop.........pissed off :banghead:
2sav
-
i dont think there is a right or wrong way....boats or sandrails....i dont see how either method could be a problem for either application.
-
All the boat seats I've seen had the foam seperate from the vynl. I agree, I don't see why it would be a problem either way. Maybe they're seperate to dry them out easier?
-
I just got up in the attic / secret storage, and looked at the sand rail seats I have. hhmmm, the foam is on the covers. Maybe thay do it that way on the sand toys so you can remove the covers and wash out all the dirt / sand without getting the foam wet :-\

It's smacking it pretty hard, I don't think the push rods are off enough to cause it, they are pretty close. And it's only got a 1.7 rocker arm ratio. I think we're going to degree in the cam and see if that clears it, and if not out comes the valve relief cutter. It's not that it's tight, it's just straight smacking the piston
-
I think the cam in Sav boat is comp cam xm278h Hy A impeller( in.564 ex566 )112 lobe sep 2000to6200 rpm spring all most match LS6 seat an open pres. 1.88=1.15 1.750=1.65 1.500 300

So the stock height is 1.88, and the seat pressure is at 115lbs?

I woulde't clearence thos pistons too much being it is a chevy running flat tops! Flat tops in a chevy , what is that 8 to 1 compression?

I think he's using early 396 heads, very small closed combustion chamber, I think
-

That's what I was thinking, but the factory pistons are dished I think, I'm pretty sure they're over 9:1, but I haven't done the math on it. It had peanut port heads, and once he got an idea of what sized cam it had he decided that he doesn't want to run those heads at all

Ls6 is 1.880 120lb 1.500 275lb comp is 1.900 122lb 306 @140

1.885 @120lb or 1.845 @135lb open max lift 1.185 @408lb coil bind 1.105

Who knows if it's right or not. I would imagine, since they are not using the marks provided on the keys, that the paint marks would line up ???
-
that thing is SO far out it aint funny. that first pic is off by like a hundred degrees, the second is off about 45
-
Who knows if its right if you pull the bolts and rotate it 45 degrees it looks like it would line up. Maybe the cam is right but it wasnt assembled exactly the way it came off
-
The main reason to degree a cam is to verify that everything is where it is supposed to be when assembled.
Cam timing looks way off according to those pics.
Let me see if I can dig up some information on how to degree a cam (easier than me trying to explain it).
-
that thing is SO far out it aint funny. that first pic is off by like a hundred degrees, the second is off about 45
x2 ...........when those two marks are lined up it should be top dead 6 (on chevy), but you should still degree it like crewchief22 said.
-
Here a link for degreeing in the cam, but if you don't have a kit to degree in a camshaft it might be near impossible http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Instructions/Files/145.pdf
In theory however you should be able to lineup the dots and run it, but this doesn't allow for slight missmachining of camshaft or timing gears.
-
2sav, with the crankshaft in the position it is in in those pics(keyway pointing up center of #1 cylinder centerline) the dowel in the cam should be at 3 0-clock. This is the point where the marks on the cam and crank gear will be adjacent to each other(crank gear mark straight up, cam gear mark straight down). You are WAY OFF and that will bend lots of valves.
-
Thanks Josh... I was trying to scan some pages from my Crane Cams book :banghead:
-
You gotta put a dead stop on #1 piston, turn crank both ways to deadstop (close to TDC) noteing reading on your degree wheel bolted to your crank or balencer. You then set the degree wheel by splitting the difference between the two readings you got earlier On the degree wheel while turning the crank both directions. NOW you have accurate TDC. Next you get out your cam card and figure out at what degree do you have .050 lift on what particular valve. You'll need a dial indicater for this, which can also be used as your dead stop. You then set up a dial indicater on the valve you want to check and rotate the motor untill indicater reads .050 lift, now cheack the degree wheel and see if it matches what your cam card says. The three key ways on your crank sprocket will retard or advance your cam by 4 derees i think it is, you can use this adjustment to put the cam at .050 lift at the specified crank degree. With all this high tech adjusting of the cam it still shouldnt be as much as a tooth off on the sprockets. Also, set your timing marks looking at each other at TDC..... ALWAYS! Your crank sprocket has three keyways, they should be marked with a circle a box and a triangle, if you use the keyway with the box, use the box near the sprocket teeth as your timing mark. This could be your problem, wrong timing mark. The circle will be "O" and the box and trianle will be retard and advanced positions.
-
Thanks guy's.....Looks like we are going to get this thing straight tomorrow ;) I still need big heads ;D

-
So,............any progress on getting this cam properly timed so it will be ready for the "degreeing" process?
Not really, the lifters we're kind of throwing off results, so we ended up with straight up. I think once Steve can get One solid lifter, we can get an accurate reading and do it again. But at least the valves are nice and far from the pistons ;D

made my 427 BBC have about 11:1 compression ratio with a 101cc head. I believe a flat top with a 101cc head puts it around 9.5:1 - 10:1. If your engine is a 454 and not a 427 then the compression ratio is going to be a little higher, say maybe 11.25:1 with pistons similar to the pistons I used. The small combustion chamber definately has advantages for a BBC over a larger combustion chamber and a bigger dome to get the same compression ratio due to how the A/F ratio is burnt in the combustion chamber (also a advantage for Ford's vs. Chevy's).
Here's what happens if you're a cheap asss :banghead: that runs too low octane in a Chevy with 11:1 compression ratio using forged pistons.

Rod thats great info, i apreciate it VERY much. Well i was thinking Hypers to save some money, but i guess in the long run it will just cost me more than buying the forged to begin with. So that is what i will do ;)
I was thinking about these as my choices. TRW forged pistons

I just dont want to make the same mistake as i did when i was mentally ill and trying to build a FORD :banghead:

8.62:1... ouch. I'm surprised those pistons with the small dome don't have any intake valve relief cut into them. ???
Curious where did you get those compression ratio numbers at? I got mine from the guy that re-rebuilt my engine for me and it was his "best guess" without doing any math.

Well i hope you guys are sitting down cause i dont want nobody getting scared and falling down ;D
Here are some pics of whats to come.....The new Heartbeat for the Bahner ;)

Allright Bahner boy thats about enough lip out of you ! It realy dosnt matter what pistons you use because the only time any of your "project boats" get wet is wen you wash them :screwy:. Why dont you save yourself some money and stress and just sit in the boat makeing vroom vroom noises while the wife mists you with a hose ::). Besides every one knows Chevy powered boats are faster on the trailer than on the water. >:D ;D

Since your startin from scratch , just make sure your following your engine builders instructions or whomever's instruction you'll be taking . It's always good to get opinions and bounce ideas off of people and then run them by your builder . Good luck and we're here to help .

As far as my engine builder go's I dont have one. I might end up letting the machine shop build it, short block only which i think is my safest bet.... But you know me , i might pull something else out my ass :o

Do yourself a favor, call Jim Brock, he builds some amazing shit. It's a short drive from BHC to his shop, he'll even help you dial it in once it's in the boat, trust me you won't be disappointed.

are you going to make it to parker?
even if the boat isnt done, i'd like to see you there. that goes for anyone. a running boat isnt a requirement. There will be plenty of boats there to get rides in.

I spent the day at the river yesterday watching running boats and it sucked with mine this close and still sitting in the driveway :banghead: I blame this on myself, trying to make everything perfect. Im not being picky any more im just trying to get it in the water. The picky part can come after its running..
I am taking vacation that week so we will see, but i kinda doubt it...

Well boy's the reason the wife and i didn't get to Parker. As much as we wanted to make the trip, it just wasn't in the cards..... She got really sick, temp of 101.8 She's fine now, back to the same ol bitchen :banghead: ( I guess thats a good thing) ???
but i made a little progress with the boat. Here's a little story, i went to Holiday rv and marine after i called for a new forward/reverse cable and a steering swivel.... They said yeah we have it in stock ;D Wow for the first time they actually have something i need in stock, Woo Hoo...... After 45 mins of them being on the phone looking for it, they say it will be $165 and will be here in two days...Ok WTF happened to it being in stock ??? Whatever.... I left came straight home called Rex marine and had it here in Three days for only $121 ;D Now my pump is complete and ready to throw some roosts >:D
Nevermind that gasket, i forgot to take it off before i put the swivel on. I guess i was just excited to get it finished.

And now the motor, i spent the last 4 days getting it ready to drop in the boat......
It goes in tomorrow in the am, I have a new Holley 750 DP on the way, so now i just need a dizzy, Bilge pump, plumbing, and wiring and i think its time to get her wet ;D

Well its been awhile since i last worked on the Bahner, so i decided i am going to tie up all the loose ends on her.
I finally finished the seat mounts, that ugly wood look was buggin the hell outa me. I had a little carpet left, so i fixed her up purdy and all ;D

By not beaching the boat, you'll save the bottom!!! That sand and rock really gouge through a hull.... Think of it as 36 grit sand paper rubbing the bottom every time you beach and every time another boat goes by and makes a wake.

Maybe i said it wrong, but i have no intentions of beaching my boat, i couldn't if i wanted to.... I was looking for another way to tie her up, and a ski tow makes perfect sense ;) I see these boats ties up in the bow and transom to keep them from moving when it gets in tight spots (Lotsaboats) WooHoo >:D
Everything you posted above, makes perfect sense...... ;D thanks....

I took that ski tow off my boat since I don't plan on towing anyone but still wanted to have a tie spot, just in case so I went with this http://shopping.rexmar.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=skitowstransombil from Rex Marine. I may add another and then use them for tieing to and also use as the tie down for the tailer tie downs.

The Bahner is a really LIGHT lay up and i would have to reinforce it with some wood........But i would not feel comfy about it, i think im better off with a ski tow..... But thanks for the info ;)

(get like 8500 for it) But I painted it , carpeted it, wired it, plumbed it, painted the trailer, gauges, enclosed the motor and put a electic hatch. plus a blower for the gas fumes. oh ya int. too ;D
I did all that and I liked it better old sh!tty broan and tan :banghead: I just use the boat more when it was old looking :screwy:

Dont let them get to you 2sav ;) . Its your project and it needs to make you happy, so let it be done when its done !!! Theres no need to rush things or cut corners now, you have way to much time and money in it to halfass it together to get it on the water. Thats what Rod did and it cost him a motor, now hes taking his time and doing it right. When people ask me when the Eliminator will be done, I say, when its done it will be done and not a day sooner ;D ;D
BTW, its looking good, keep it up and get-it-done ;) ;D

How did it cost rod a motor? The motor was built right. From what I heard. It was Rod that ran old gas that blew the motor up ;D You forgot the Rod factor! :banghead: O0

Do you mean the Sanford factor ::) ::) ? Yea you have a point there, but can you explain how "bad gas" only affects one cylinder ??? ???
Dont forget this,
(quote Rod from the Mach 1 thread) I had a mechanic briefly look at the engine in the Mach 1 this morning (he's here to fix the family boat's water pump and eratic running condition). He said it looked to him like there was a bad vacuum leak on that cylinder. He asked if the heads were surfaced (yes), asked if the block was surfaced (yes), asked how it idled (didn't idle very well at all), asked if it had any popping out the exhaust (yes), I then showed him the cylinder head and he looked at the gaskets and said that he could tell the gasket wasn't sealing and then he showed me how he could tell.
(unquote)
Bad gas my a** . ::), that motor was in big trouble before it ever saw water, but he ran it anyway. Go back and look at that thread , it was running like crap (wouldnt idle, popping, etc, etc) and he ran anyway just to get it on the water and try to get it faster than 49 mph :screwy:. Lesson to be learned = take your time and build it right, than if something is wrong fix it before you go to the lake.
Sorry for the thread jack 2sav, now get back to work !! ;) ;D

(unquote) sanford factor(yes) I think and I'll ask today. The motor I think was new right! Yes it was all about the gas thing about it did help that it was a year and a half old (something like that) did it!
Sorry 2sav, O0

building boats do get expensive. summer before last i owned two jet boats, boated all summer and made two grand off 'em. I have NEVER baught a turn key boat. My boat was supposed to be turn key and it took a month before i started it and i've had everything out of it but the block, trans and steering. I t was turn key yesterday till i pulled the mag, will be again when i put the new one in today. It takes alot to make 'em turn key so hang in there, do it your way and get r done....just keep it! I started w/ a $1500 boat and in a year i worked up to a blown flatty and am into it well under 10 G's

-beerjet-

Quick, somebody trade him something with a Ford in it so we can bag on him for that for a while ;D
Back to reality, 2Sav-468Bahner-tahiti boy whatever, I've sold couple projects and always end up kicking myself for not finishing them as planned. I have been working on my 68 CJ5 for about 8 years now and am determined to finish it. Sometimes its very hard but your a hell of a lot closer with this boat than the others.
In my best Dr Phil voice ;D I think you need to get your sh** together and finish this boat just to show yourself and everyone else that you can do it (it will help get some people off your back to). Then you can sell it or trade it and not have to take any sh** from anyone.
Good luck in whatever you do.
-
Hey Chief , uuuuuh , bless your heart . 8)
-beerjet-
-
All it needs is a shortblock??? How hard can it be to find a BBC shortblock??? Follow Chief's advice - finish this up first. It doesn't have to be perfect. Hell you live at the river, this could give your family hours/days of pleasure still this year and next. Another boat is just another set of problems that right now are someone else's >:D
Finish this one and you will be much happier. Or put your wife back on the site and maybe we can talk some sense into her.
-
probably worth more finished too

Whats wrong now Bahner Boy ?? Quit your job today ? Knock up the old lady again ? Broke another car/truck ? Theres lots of other things around there for you to sell (like that Tahiti ::) )
This boat is not for sale !!! Make him finish what he started this time !!!

You big PUSSY!!!! >:D
It was cold as balls here last week when I took mine out, and I'm still alive and so is the boat. ;) It was a little hard to drive cause my foot was shaking so much, but she ran great in the cold. Hell I picked up 3 mph in the cold air, also after a 40 mile (round trip) run down the river.
Just put on a coat and wear some jeans, and you'll be fine. ;) It doesn't get cold in Arizona anyways, lol, J/K. ;D

Hell if your talking bilge pumps and alternators, that fukr's getting close!
35 amp IMO is plenty of alternator, 360 GPH is plenty of bilge pump (unless you plan on having leaks), as far as the pulley, I would have to go scrounge...as far as the glue, switch to lake/river water and boat exhaust for crying out loud!!!!!!! ;D
Git-er' done!
GT
-
I like my 625 gph bilge pump, I just flip the switch for a few seconds and it basically empties it out. I've also got a 500 gph, wired to a float switch but I've only used it once, when I got swamped by some asshole in another boat. And the big one could have handled it, but I wanted to get the water out fast.
-
i have three automatic 500 gph in forkedup and have never had a problem with them falling behind, check thechromeguy.com he might have the pulley you are looking for, and he is very reasonable on $$$, he is right down the road so i can pick it up for you if you wanted and ship/mail it to you, just an option ;D

I figured it would just blow out.......... ::)
-
with all the time you have invested in this project, not to mention $$, i would spend the extra time and get it out, that way you know for sure, god forbid you leave it in there and something happens, you will always wonder if it was caused by impatience and not getting that out, and worst case it takes you and extra day to get on the water, bid deal its already taken how long? just my .02 ;D
-
Well , can't i just fire it up and mash the gas ???
That should do it ;)
-
You nut hut, ya need to get that out :screwy: use one of those long flexible magnets. and as for a Ford killer ::) HA!!! like what was said before it needs to get wet first ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So riddle me this batman ;D This bolt falls in and gets stuck between the valve and the seat ??? bent valve ??? say it makes it past the valve and is now bouncing around in the cylinder ??? dinged piston ??? scratched cylinder walls ??? dinged piston near the ring land ??? so the ring does not move Bolt happens to stand straight up when the piston goes up and piston, bolt valve combo all collide ??? gets stuck between the exh. valve and seat, bent valve ??? i knew this thread would be at 28 pages before the weekend ends :screwy:
-
Not sure if you got them already, but go to Fastenal!!!!!! Here's their website, you should have one close to you somewhere, http://www.fastenal.com/ (http://www.fastenal.com/) I guarantee you that they will have them. ;) If I remember correctly, they are 7/16-20, and you'll have to determine your own length. I wouldn't use stainless for the drive line. Stainless is softer than grade 8 bolts, and you don't want to risk shearing any of those bolts off, so just get some black oxide grade 8 bolts, and never have to worry about it again.

Cut down the splined end of the drive shaft to create the clearance required. :P Don't go moving engines and shit like that, you're making this more difficult than it needs to be. How much thicker is the flywheel than the flexplate was?
Good luck. :)

Maybe thats how you do it in Kentucky , but here i just move the engine forward 1/2" before cutting on the drive shaft ???
But i think the best solution is to buy another flexplate... But then i run into it hitting the motor plate , which i will have to cut :sly:

I ended up using a differen't flexplate and no shim, but now my driveshaft looks short. I think its ok ??? Its gonna have to do for now. Take a look, im not changing shit though :sly:

Yeah, I agree, the driveline is way too short, that there is just dangerous :o
Is the angle of the driveshaft as harsh as it looks? I'm hoping it's an optical illusion.... ???
Looking good, can't wait, the anticipation is killing me :banghead:
GT
-
Its nice to your still working on it !! ;D ;D
I have to agree with Gt (again) on the angle/offset of that drive line Steve (looks like alot of angle). And does that pumps front bearing seal go to the shaft ? It doesn't look like the drive line would fit in there . ??? How far is that pump shaft inside the drive line ?
Another thing, how much clearance is there between the flexplate and that line directly under it (fuel line ?) .
-
Hard to tell with the angle, i only have the drive shaft set in nothing is bolted up tight but it dont look that bad looking at it ( not the pic )
No the shaft wont fit in the bearing housing . Pump shaft is farther in than it looks.
As for the fuel line, it will be re'routed to a fuel valve on the transome , but it has plenty of clearance now, i think these pics are playing with your eyes ???
-
i dont like the angle either, but if it doesn't viberate run it. ive seen worse and they said they had no problems
-
Tomorrow i will bolt it up tight and get a better pic of the driveshaft. If its not to your liking i will re adjust it.....
Remember , i want this done right the first time ;)
Thanks.
-
Looking good are you just mocking it up, are do you plan on running it with the drive line installed?

Steve, check your angles before cutting anything.
I dont know if its right or not, but here's mine when we were making the templates for the motor plates. To make things easy I set the trailer so that the pump shaft was at 0 deg, than set the motor at 0 deg and adjusted motor height until I had around 2 deg on the drive shaft.

Wanted the honor of taking the 30th page ;D ;D
A real good backwoods way to check driveline angle would be to use a 6" "pretty close" (thats a digital caliper to you all) and measure from cup to cup on the u-joints, I have done it this way before (makes people look at you funny).
Just measure with the moving joints at top to bottom, shoot for about 1/32" difference with "0" from side to side....
Looking good, I can almost hear it from here.

Well maybe i think i might have found a solution to the driveshaft angle...
Are the plates supposed to sit on the rail ? as you can see mine are elevated about a 1/2" or so..
If you remember when i got this boat it came with those custom angle iron feet :banghead: i replaced them with the right ones but never drilled new holes. I think just by dropping the engine down and making it flush with the rail , it should fix my angle prob ???
Check it.

Looking good there Steve!!!! O0 Glad to see it finally coming together, and that you're getting the bugs worked out. Have you started the engine yet? When you do, we better get a video of that thing!!!!!!!! >:D

I think you found your problem ;D. If the plates were siting on the rails before than they should be on them now. But I still think you should check the angles just to be sure.

I hate this phuking boat :banghead: :banghead: i dropped the engine down and sat it on the rail.. Now i have a gap between the plates and feet... So i
either i installed the rail backwards when i took it out or the guy before me did... So now im going to notch out the front plate and raise the rear a hair. That should give
me the angle i need for the drive shaft ??? I really wish someone would buy this fukin nighmare, im so fukin sick of working on it and nothing comes out right  FUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

before you cut the plate take it off and bolt the rear down flush, then check the angle of the drive line. it may be out of wack
-
Yeah the gap between the f :)eet and plate is crazy, I think i will notch the front plate out tomorrow and bolt this bitch up or blow it up :sly:
Don't be so "quick to hack", measure three times, cut once ;)
I think something is still screwy :screwy: I have a solid driveline that can be used for alignment, maybe someone around you has made one????
Anyone???? Mine is welded square tubing with the U-joint ends set at 2* offset (made it myself for doing fast installs).
Patients my bro, patients :)
-
Sorry, I looked again and they both look wrong, but it's hard to tell since the drive line is not bolted up flush. But it looks to me like the rear needs to be raised and leave the front sitting on the rail. That would also help the gap between the plates and the blocks. ;)
-
Hang in there. You're almost there and your work will be worth it. I have nuthing to offer that the others havent but my wishes of good luck. It's really looking good.
-
Forty days til Xmas Or forty pages on the Bahner. Which will come first? Will the boat be done before either of those milestones? Anybody got an over/under number? Shiat I'll bet on anything :screwy:

Now i got alot more to do :banghead: I guess i need to get a angle finder or whatever you use to install the engine. I about dropped the engine through the boat today when the picker decided it was tired of holding the engine. Talk about a wake up call ???

I've gotta agree with Brad. Leave this cuz it's the real deal. You've done a hell of a job and shit happens and we all have things that come up that make us change our thoughts. This is a damn good thread.
PS...........if Moby is headed your way, hide the Crown...... otherwise, he may never leave..... ;D
