I've been crazy lazy this summer. But starting to pick up a few things to work on the Chub Tub. Got a Berk droop, now I need find steering extension (and a polisher so it'll match my pump lol) and just sent payment for a Dooley pan for the "back up" engine project. Picked up a couple of sanding blocks and some 500 & 1000 grit wet/dry paper to start working on the gel coat. I'm going to try and start sanding it to have it ready for the YPT. We'll see how that goes.
Here's what I plan to do over winter
Replace gauges
Swap ignition from points to Duraspark
Re-plumb with blue hose & fittings
Possibly replace wire harness & switches
Install stereo, amp, & speakers
Have bimini re-covered
Possibly shoot clear over gel.
I also plan to keep collecting parts for back up engine. I want to build a 521 and then swap out the 460 and stroke it too and have a back up engine on a stand ready to go just in case. I don't want to have to miss a summer again. I'm also thinking of having a back up pump set up too. :screwy:

You can do what I did and buy a second boat 8)
When I had one boat and decided to go high performance I discovered when it broke I was screwed :banghead:
So now I have the HP boat - my Rogers
My family boat that starts every time I turn the key is my Cobra - Maintain it and will always be there 8)

Working on the 850dp carb. I found a milled main body and cleaned everything up. Swapped out jets from 76/80 to 80/84 to start. It already had 6.5 primary power valve and secondary blocked off. Squirters are .31 on both. I then painted main body and metering blocks with black appliance epoxy paint. I figure that should be a good starting point for this carb. I'll go install it in a few and try it out. The real test will be to see how it does on the water. I'll have to take my parts kit with me so I can do any fine tuning out on the water.

Dropped Weiand Stealth intake and Berk droop at polishers. Ordered pick up from Rex for the Dooley pan and also a nozzle gasket. Ordered loader from Chris at B1 (very excited about this part). Once I get all the parts, I'll pull the motor to fix some leaks and install intake, pan, and loader. Then I need to save up for new gauges, fuel sending units, and flush fuel fills. I've been told the fuel fills are notorious for letting in water so I'll have a water separator to the fuel system. Not sure if I should put it before or after filter.

The original gel is beat from the sun. I got the idea of re-clear coating the top half. 1st attempt didn't go so well. Got it sanded down and took it to my buddy's shop to shoot clear. It was a beautiful day and the shop was full so we shot it outside. Driver's side came out great, but by the time I got around to the passenger side there was a small amount of dust in the air and it was attracted to my boat lol. Sooo time to sand it back down.

After wet sanding with 500, I rinsed it down and shot a couple of pics of it wet so I could see what it will look like with clear. I have a couple of places that need to be sanded a little deeper and then it's back to my buddy's shop to try again. This time, the shop will be clear and we can shoot it indoors. I also found out we were running too much air pressure, had real bad orange peel effect. His compressor regulator is set at 110psi!!! I've got a small pressure regulator that mounts to the gun and I will dial it down the 40psi this time.

Looking SWEET!

Ok, so I started installing loader today. Got old one out easy. Bored out mount holes and drilled all the way through. Started tapping for new threads. First hole perfect. Next two, no problem. Last hole, tap breaks! Inside hole! Try drilling tap. Ain't happening. Strategically drill 1/8" holes around tap figuring that half the hole is salvageable and it's going all the way through and getting a nut. One side done. Almost done drilling opposite side and drill bit breaks! WTF!!! D*#m F+@k Sh%! Son of a motherless goat!!! Yeah, that's how my day is going. To top it off, I'm working on boat in the gravel next to the house using a Mexicali creeper! Taking a break. Going to get a cobalt bit tomorrow and fix this shiznit.

So my buddy finally gets a day off to go pick up my stuff (and his) at the polisher and nothing has been polished. He told us a couple of weeks ago that everything was done. On top of that several parts for my buddy's 55 Chevy Pickup are missing!!! Needless to say, if it would have been in USA, I would have been bailing my bro out of jail. Unfortunately, he was able to calm himself enough to get out of there without knocking the polisher out simply because he didn't want to go to Mexican jail. So I put the fugly intake on my motor and I will slap the droop (factory powder white) on and call it close enough for government work. I will pick up my new PD nozzle from powder coat tomorrow, sand and buff clear and then all I will be waiting for is the fuel fills I bought from Recycle Performance. Got a smoking deal on NOS fuel fills ($29 each), they only had red and gold available at that price so I went with red. I figure I'll powder coat them to match later. Besides red is usually color for gasoline lol.

Motor and gauges are in. Still need to re-install dash switches, steering, and fuel fills. Then I can install interior. I also need to figure out why my starboard side fuel pick up is not working. Hopefully it's just clogged and not broken. I'm taking a break today to go pick up my son in SD (home from deployment!) for the weekend. I'll post pics when it's all done.
