Title: Composite Decking for boat floor??
Post by: Blue on August 16, 2007, 07:59:40 PM
I saw a composite deck today at a customers house and I was thinking that it would be the ultimate boat floor instead of plywood. Has anyone tried it or have any pro's or con's about it. I can't think of anything bad about it. It will never rot and it is ultra strong and no resin needed. The onlt thing I can think of is the screws holding the floor in could wear into a bigger hole since it is a plastic base

It is heavier than wood and has much less tensile (?) strength.  It doesn't rot, splitter, does fade but no staining required.    I don't think you could really build much out of it other than a deck or platter....

I built a rather large deck on the back of my house with it:  probably 30x12+ with multiple 4 levels and stairs.  It is great for a top deck material but has to use more re-enforcement to do the job than just wood alone.

Thats a good sized deck . I'd like to see your deck. Maybe one day I'll have a deck like that too . Do you think I can come by and sit on your deck for a while . You know , just to see if I like a deck that big ?  :D

Blue they make a marine composite plywood. It's just harder to attach it to thing.
