I had the whole thing sand blasted and then polished
Did you clear over the polish job?
-
Did you clear over the polish job?
no I have a friend the owns a powder coat co. and he said stay away from the clear
-
are you going to do anything to protect the polish job or are you just going to repolish after every outing?
-
maybe zoop seal ?
-
no I have a friend the owns a powder coat co. and he said stay away from the clear
Hmmm, I've got a friend who has a powder coat business and he told me how to get some very cool effects with powders and then top them off with clear. But for the money, do what you think is best. It's your pump, I just hope you get a good coating of something on it if it's just rattle can clear to protect all that hard work.
Still it looks great!!!! ;D

thanks Bill, thier is no way it will be done by june :banghead:
-
I think it is aggressor or miersch?
Lookin good! That does look like an Aggressor, which is essentially a similar design w/ suttle differences. It's actually a copy of a copy of a Miersch, at least thats how Roy explained it to me.
(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jetboatperformance.com%2Fimages%2Fuploads%2Fmierschintake%25201.jpg&hash=97658d56b38f8cc1553e2191691620f76156e414)

I didnt have anything to do with it but thanks :)
-
start of the delta pad
-
I've read about removing the delta pad on the Pantera bottom of my boat. What is the advantage of rebuilding the delta pad instead of just removing it?
-
these guys have made screaming progress on your boat in the last 18 days ::)
i dont know how you do it.....with the truck...now your boat....i just couldnt be that patient.
-

Different boats work differently. Right now I'm making a radius keel on my pop's Hondo Pantera, instead of leaving the Delta pad. It should be up and going this weekend, we'll see how it goes. Eliminators might like the Delta pad
-
Looks good. How far in front of the intake do they start the delta pad?
-
haha thanks brad yeah im done with these yahoos if they ever finish the pump set back between this and the truck ive learned not to pay up front
-

I was told if you want to carpet everything and have a mild lake boat its fine it still will need work to the floor I was looking to flow coat the whole floor with a super high gloss they said it for what I want to do im better to start off new
-

WHAT is WRONG with the FLOOR?
-
I never heard of such a explanation unless these guy's have no clue about flow coating an interior !!! Don't give up, get another opinion !!! B&K Boat Repair can do it Eliminator can direct you to someone too. It's too clean a boat to just give up on it. All a flow coat is is spraying in a coat of resin with a surface agent in it so it will harden then buffing it out. You need to sand the interior completely prior in order to get good adhesion. That's probably why they are balking at it. Too much work. A bit of sweat equity on your part should really get the price down. The rotten economy should help too, even good shops are finding work hard to come by and will be lowering prices.
-
again I dont know much about this stuff so im telling you what ive been told thier is 2 layers or parquet floor that is satuarated and delamaniting which caused it to spread to parts of the stringers I think todd @ trg knows what hes talking about he comes very highly recommended he knows what im going for as far as a finished product and said I would be much happier with a new hull and that he would love to take my money but why spend so much on a 1984 for what im going to spend on the floor and paint im well over what it would cost to get a brand new 2009 also the amount I already have into this it may be time to call it quits at this rate ill have 60k into
-

thats what i was getting at....it isnt just the flow coat, it is the parquet floors....i got the same issue in my liberty...someone dropped something on it, punctured it, and it got water in there....now its delaminating. only fix is to remove it and relay new balsa....and from whatching ralphs liberty thread, you cant just replace the stringers or the floor in a liberty....you have to do it both at the same time because the way it was glassed in.
and i wasnt second guessing todds work either....i have heard many great things about his work and knowledge of boats. i was just trying to get you to say what specifically it was that changed your mind to sell it for a new one.
-
I wasnt reffering to you brad
-
that sucks dude, sorry to hear that, can they give you any other options ???
-
carpet the whole thing and put a outboard on it
-
Didn't realize you had delamination issues in the balsa floor. Or that you have so much already tied up into it. I would still call B&K anyway just as a second opinion.
-
where can i find b&k
-
where can i find b&k
b&k is in bellflower ca, thats who did the stringers in my liberty
-
even if i do fix the stringers and floors and new paint im at 15k or can get a new one for under 10 k :-\
-
if you can buy a brand new Daytona hull for under 10K, I'd say do it.
-
it would be a cheyanne or stealth
-
it would be a cheyanne or stealth
Good choice, I'm not sure how much a new hull cost but if your interested I'd call Ervin Capps . http://phoenixfiberglass.net/ The benifit you get with a new hull like this, is the fact that they have been through the R & D and the boats comes out of the mold with the bottom mods you would otherwise have to add on to an older hull.

here is the damage that caused me to abort this mission
-
any comments ???
-
Looks like a simple fix to me. You had some glass de-laminate. Grind it back to a 3" taper (feather) and then glass it back in. Someone liked that parquet flooring/counter top stuff.
-
so even if i do fix the floor& stringers is it safe to put 1000 hp(+or-) to it
-
so even if i do fix the floor& stringers is it safe to put 1000 hp(+or-) to it
It looks like some holes have been filled. If they were done right, with wooden dowels and epoxy, I don't see why they wouldn't hold up. I have read where some of the meanest drag boats have balsa stringers and look at the HP they pump out. The distribution of the weight and torque is spread out.
-
One other thing you might consider if you are worried about it, once you have the area repaired, put in a layer of glass mat the length of the motor mounting area and then add a layer of cloth just so it's easier to smooth out.
-
i think you are close to havasu rite? i would take it over to d'cucci's shop and have them look at it. i'm sure it can be repaired but at what cost i dont know. sorry not much help :-\
-
well it was explained to me like this even if i do fix the floor i would be applying new fiberglass to old fiberglass and it would never bond correctly is this true? and even if i were to fix the floor the actual structure of the boat is a 1984 is that something to worry about ? ive considered fixing the floor but with all that work done and new paint im not to far from what a new one would cost and i think the buyer is on his way here now
-

All that work and you're going to bail out of it now? The floor isn't that big of a deal. One day's work and you're done. Oh well, if you're gonna sell it, you'll have a new project to start on. :sly:
-
I didnt want to bail out but what point do you say enough is enough
-
I didnt want to bail out but what point do you say enough is enough
Do what you got to do , don't worry about what they think. It's not their wallet paying for it
I'll give ya $Fitty bucks and a twelve pack of Bud Light with Lime :D
>:D
-
Hey 82 daytona, that damage does not look real bad to me, I think (without seeing it up close) I would go ahead with the rebuild and splice in a section of the stringer, dig into the parque balsa and just finish it up, the stringer does not look to me to have been super high quality materials to start with (hard to tell from just a picture), if epoxy resins are used the bond that can be obtained is incredibly strong, if there are any doubts, my buddy just replced a major section of a delaminated bottom on his flatbottom and recently ran 118 MPH without issue, he vacuum bagged the bottom and used epoxy resins designed for lamination, much stronger than polyester resins.
If your engine mounts are rail type, the torque goes through the entire length of the rails, if not I would go that way, seems cheaper than starting over and I think in the end you will have a better boat...Again, may be completely full of shit, right to the top....
GT
-
well if the guy ever decides to come back its sold i hope
-
its offical its SOLD :o :o going to queen creek
-
Nooooooooo.... Guess we won't see you around here for a while ;D
-
its offical its SOLD :o :o going to queen creek
Good job ;D
-
ill have another hull in 2 or 3 months or so
-
so can i change my name like boner boy im mean bahner boy :P
-
so can i change my name like boner boy im mean bahner boy :P
Maybe BONEHEAD BOY. LMAO!!! ;D Hey, it's your life you gotta do it your way!
-
at this point selling it was the smartest thing i could do if i would have kept going with this one i would have 50-60k into a 1984 hull you cant make chicken soup out of chicken shit or i cant atleast
-
Don't I know that feeling. I bought my Miller for $2000.00 and I think I've spent another $10,000 or more to get it to the point it is. That doesn't include the $1000.00 worth of paint I'm going to throw on it later this year.
-
finely sold it ;D
-
How's the new outboard boat coming along? ;D ;)
-
plesh i though you fell off the earth yeah i finelly sold it :D still no plans for the outboard sorry
-
Eric, here are some finished pics, boat runs hard!!!!
