What bout summit cam and lifters for 100 bucks  ;D

Edit: FWIW, also have a cam and lifter set you can have, only 20 minutes run time, from the original tossed rod engine from the Moo. Looks fine, but have no idea what make or grind it is, but it's yours to try Jeff if you need it. (Might get you in the water quick!, was supposed to be a hot lil number according to the PO) I'll try and get pics tomorrow or Wednesday of it.

I really appreciate the offers guys !!!   But, there's something really wrong with it this time. I really don't understand what the problem is, but I cranked it over to check compression a few days later (5 cylinders at 170, 2 at 165, 1 at just under 165) not bad for an 8 year old motor.  And all of a sudden after checking the first cylinder, all the rockers where tight again and everything looked normal   :sly:.  I know for sure the lifters werent collapsed like that when it was running (would have been really noisy) so it had to do it after it was shut down.   Bad thing is the oil was full of powdered metal, and it was all the way up in the heads (went through the motor).  I didn't see it up there at first, but when I was cleaning things up there was a layer of it under the oil in all the little recesses in the heads.   :'(   Its OK, Ive got a floaty chair for the pool where I can make vroom vroom noises, and the boat wanted more power anyway, and it made it home !!!!   Cant swing a new motor build for it right now so it has to wait for winter.  This is going to an expensive winter.  ;)

The good news is this gives me more time to be on here and provide 2sav with as much "motivation" as needed until he gets that boat of his wet !!!!  >:D >:D

Well I finally tore into the motor and found a dead cam. One intake valve had a total of 1/4" of valve lift. There were a few others that didnt look to good either.  New parts are on there way (just a basic little cam, almost stock  ::)) and it should be back together soon.  I took a look at a few rod/main bearings while its apart and everything looks great in there.  I guess I got lucky, all the missing metal from the cam and lifters is in the bottom of the pan.   I really cant believe how much abuse this poor old motor has taken and it still always gets me back to the ramp  ;D.

Fear not Ford fans,  The MIGHTY BBF will be back in action soon, breathing fire and kicking Cheby azz all over the waters of the central valley !!!!  >:D

Just swap out the motor for something that will always get you back to the ramp and enjoy your day on the water...a Paddle!

And you thought I was going to say a BBC  ;)

Glad to hear that it wasnt a major overhaul that was needed.

Dang, I'm late to a thread again.

Speaking of shooting, I think the hack who put in that carpet should be shot.  I hate that kind of crap.

That black gooey stuff is called cutback and probably a vinyl adhesive.  It's a bitch.  Using solvents is NOT a good idea.  I've used dry ice before (scrapes up better when frozen) but in the confines of a boat this is not a good idea.  Scraping is better than sanding.  Still a hard job no matter which way you go.  I'd cover it up it it weren't for the wood floor.
