Recently purchased a 74 sleekcraft with a chevy 454 it has twin 12 gallon fuel tanks and a drake drive. this is my first jet boat and I'm planning on taking it out for its first trip soon. I wanted to ask if there was anywere along the river that might be best for a first time out.thanks

Parker's not a bad place to start. The few shallow spots are marked with buoys. Nice and wide plenty of room to get the feel for it.

If you do Parker just make sure you get some practice during the week, the weekends can be hazardous.
I'm going to recommend the lower river for a couple of reasons. If you launch below the diversion dam north of Blythe you'll have almost no problems with rocks getting stuck in the jet, no huge boats aiming to take you out, and if you launch after noon the water level won't be an issue. I launch at the public park/marina on the north side of I10 ($15), it has a little bay area so you're not dropping right into the current (good for practicing your launching/retrieving skills).
No matter where you go, just take plenty of time to idle around, run it up and slow down several times to get a feel for it.
And most important... WHEN IN DOUBT, THROTTLE OUT!!!

I would recommended take it on a wet test run first, get the feel for it with no stress and nothing else to do. If you try and take it out with friends or the family there will be an added pressure. Don't know where you are located but there has to be a lake near you that you just drop it in and put around.

From your username I would assume your in Las vegas, if so hit lake mead early and you won't have to worry about river current if you have problems, big bend park in Laughlin has a nice launch in a cove if your wanting to go to the river
