Is that mixed or are you saying you could have bought 2 qts of each, giving you one gallon of sprayable paint, and did the job? 

Yup, 1 gallon of sprayable would have been fine but at the price from SPI, it's about the same for a gallon and I've got plenty for the trailer and touch ups...

That's a good idea.  How much of the blue and red did you get?

1 quart of each... Blue is gone but I have plenty of red left

It doesn't look all that bad.  I think I would lower the fenders some and do that section on the back channel to make it less likely to drag.  Other than that, prep it and paint it!.  You'll have it done in no time.

I wouldnt do that just yet (lower it), the weight of the boat and massive motor will probably lower it just right.  Looking good John , keep it up!

Check your trailers!!!

After reading the stories of trailers getting away and talking to Konabud and how his trailer broke the tongue off going down I-5, I really went over ours closely.

A number of places there were poor welds, broken welds or no welds at all! All of them were covered under a thick layer of plastic filler (bondo) so you'd never see a a crack if one developed.

Here's one pretty significant crack



The tounge was the most unsettling as it was just two peices of channel butted up to each other to make a box and welded only welded at the coupler.  

Beveled the seam back and then welded them together into a solid tube.  For safety sake, my son fabbed up a fishplate and welded that in over the top to further strengthen and spread the load.

So, here it is at is sets this morning and definately a much safer trailer.





Little more welding to do and a little more sanding and I'll be ready to shoot some epoxy.....can't wait

I worked my ass off yesterday and the kid did great on the welding.  With that said, my butt is dragging today. Pretty much all I did was finish sanding and cleaned the shop.....  Not very productive

On a more unfortunate note, our washer died this morning, so instead of spending $2K on the boat, we got to spend it buying a new washer and dryer.....damn it!!!!

Oh well, it's only money (that I don't have  )......

Bob, I won't lie, one of Jan and my dream vacations is to drag our wreck down there and hook up with some of you guys.  The trip this last year was just a trial run to see the area and enjoy the ocean.  With that said, we'd love to head east from there and check out the Colorado River but damn, California is long, long long and the 55mph speed limit sucks!

Cutter, The Nationals at Washougal is a gotta see.  I can't imagine a cooler place to watch a race. 

Don't rule the Rork's out just yet for a trip south.  We did just under 4,000 miles last summer on our adventure.

If you come thru Idaho, Utah, and Nevada the speed limit for trailors is the same....70 mph most of the way!

Hmmmmm  70 & 75 is much more doable.  That 55 is regoddamndiculas.  Hell, our school zones are 55........ well, maybe not but you know what I mean. 

June might be a push as this year is filling up (new grandkid coming) but next year is definately a possibility.
