John, that looks great. Now if you want to ease the edges get the 1/8" radius bit and route them too.

got me thinkn twice about giving you pointers.........if you install the blocks on the back sides of the plates, it makes future removal of the engine easier.   You don't have to lift the plates over the blocks when you pull the engine thus the drive line doesn't bind and slips right out.

Nice to see those plates installed. Your whole project is turning out bitchen. A little tip for ya, when cutting the aluminum with a router give the area you are cutting a little shot of wd-40, helps the aluminum from welding itself to the carbide bit and a better edge. keep the pics coming

Thanks for the compliment and Welcome to the board Ironman and I take it from your signature that you were that Waterjetter Supreme that cut em.  If so, they're beautiful. You do fantastic work. As far as the WD40.....oh yah, I used a ton.  I'd lay a heavy coat ontop of the plate and whether it was the air being blown around by the router or the heat generated I don't know but whatever it was, the WD40 would wick right to where I was cutting so I had a nice steady "stream" of lubricant flowing to the cutting surface. Found that out by accident but it worked nevertheless.  Thanks again.........john

Well, I'm back in town now from traveling and looking foward to firing off the "Peurto Mill" and trying and idea.  Gonna try it first with a scrap peice I cut off and see what it looks like first.

Saweet!! That would be my pump brace and the last piece to this puzzle I need. Can't wait to see it too. This hopefully will be a nice showcase for what you and Tommy are able to provide folks.

I finished my trimming and then used a 3/16" carbide tipped roundover bit in the PuertoMill and it really did a nice job rounding the sharp edges.  I then just buzzed it with my DA and some 220 grit for a uniform finish.  I think I'll step it up to around 600 grit before I call it done though as it's a touch to rough of a finish just yet.

Motor is going back together...yahooo!!!

Just for grins I blocked a portion of the back plate with some 400grit and it really puts a nice finish on it quickly.
The bad news is my son then just grabbed some buffing compound on a rag and leaned on it for a second and it gave it a killer shine .  Might have to do that someday but I think I'm gonna stick with the 400 for now.

Nope, I've been busy, steering is in, gauges are in, ignition and aux bilge switches are in.  Took the rails back out for a final sanding with some 400grit on my mudhog and reintstalled.
Sanded the plates with 400 then switched to 600, 1000 and then 2000 wetndry. Gonna pick up some polish today and go at them.

It's those kind of things that really don't show but are more work than an engine install that does show up.  I've got a few wires yet to run and that's going to take time and no one will notice that 3 or 4 hours of work.  Keep in there swinging.
