Thanks Greg.  Actually I have a new issue.  For some reason I all of a sudden have no fuel pressure (mech gauge) and the motor isnt running.  I had a bitch of a time getting it to prime earlier even though my tanks were 1/2 full.  As soon as I filled the tanks to full, the pump started working instantly.

I opened the caps thinking that the new ones might not be vented,,,,,,nuthin.

So, I'm starting to wonder if I have a leaking pickup tube that is letting me lose my prime.  I think I have a -8 plug and will try to separate the two tanks and see which is the problem child. otherwise, I suppose I'll throw some more fuel in it tomorrow and see what it does.

Stay tuned........... :-\

You may also have too small of pickups for that beast and or like you are saying one fell off. Also where the fiitting screws into the tank make sure you are not sucking air there.
The first thing I did with my tanks was modify them for future mods to my engine...aka 8-71.
I have post about this as well. You will find it good luck.

Thanks guys.  I'm really happy that it started as quickly as it did.  And in that video, no I didnt have muffs in there but later I put them in. Certianly takes the edge off but it's still terrible loud. Ear protection from the blower whine is gonna be a must I can tell.

Given all the trouble I had getting the fuel pump to prime I'm really leaning towards a broken or leaking pickup tube.  I had to fill the tanks almost completely before it would pick up fuel.  Today I'm going to separate the two lines and blow into them to see which might be sucking air.

TS, yup I remember your post and am planning on doing something similar (wish you were closer). This motor/setup was primarily to rig and setup everything along with a maiden shakedown (easylike) of the boat over Laborday weekend.

The idle issue has me stumped a bit. So I'll fiddle to make sure the blades are closing as I pulled out both idle speed screws and it still ran at 1500.

Rork, you are such a dumbass!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

My super duty whiz bang double throw down fuel filter/water separator has four 1/2 fittings.  Two I'm using for my fuel lines and the other two I have plugged with 1/2 pipe plugs...sorta

After being a contortionist (sp?) and separating both tanks and enjoying a morning fuel chaser with my coffee, I determined that both pickups are functioning correctly.

What I didnt notice till after all that was that one of the 1/2 pipe plugs had vibrated out of the filter head and the other was fingertight......

Needless to say, the fuel pump has difficulty pulling fuel if I'm missing a 1/2 plug.

I wish T.J.  I still have plenty of issues to work out.  Idle is way too fast so I can't time it and even if I can get it to idle down, the dizzy is hitting the blower manifold so I'm gonna have to pull it and try clocking it a bit.

imagine adding the  whine of a v-drive, lets go for a ride:

On the Holleys you can close the secondaries with a little set screw to get you into the idle curcuit on the primaries.

Ohwee!!!  Wild!   Thanks for the tip on the set screw.  I've pulled the linkage off and have reassembled it.  I might have had them fighting each other.  Gonna fire it in a second and see....

Now i'm talkin holleys, yours should be close, BGs right? On the holleys you have to puill the carbs and adjust from the bottom. Save yourself some time and shit can the screws and put in Allen set screws from the top for future adjustments

HD, you nailed it!!!  Pulled the carbs and found that the secondary screw on the front carb was way in.  Backed that out and bingo, I now have a boat that'll idle.

I know some don't like the surge dealio but to me, that's music to the ears.

Many thanks to Josh for jumpin on the phone with me and to my son Ian for helping Pops out.......

Thanks guys.  I'm certain there will be plenty of footage given that the maiden voyage will probably be the Mardon trip where we currently have 77 boats registered and likely will approach (or surpase) 100 boats.

I've got my killer interior setup that Skip (i.e. LuckyStiff) hooked me up with that is super comfy.  I'm currently just cutting some aluminum seat pans to mount them to my stringers. Probably not necessary given how nice these seats are built but I figg'rd I might as well make it super stout to hold my fat ass.

Thanks again and stay tuned.......john

Dude, you're in Washington, I was always told you get an inch of rain every 45 minutes then between rain the wind blows and the temps fluctuate, not true? ;D
