Title: How can I tell which type of jacuzzi jet I have?
Post by: maddogg20 on June 01, 2008, 07:03:19 PM
On my boat, I have a berkley hull assembly and a jucuzzi jet assy. WHat I am wondering is how do I identify which type of jet i have in order to order a new loader grate, etc.

there should be a metal tag with id info on the transom cover for the jacuzzi

Post a pic.  Its either a YJ or a WJ and its easy to tell the difference.

This is a YJ,  Not for performance use.

Anybody got a pic of the WJ ?

mine looks diff. The foreward/ reverse assy on mine can come apart from the bowl via 4 bolts. SO I guess I have a wj?

I don't remember exactly how I found it but I've come acroos it a few times on accident. It's a website that shows almost every jet drive ever made, I think there might be a list of all the boat manufacturer's on the same web page... anyone know/seen WTF I'm writing about? I can't be the only person on this board to have seen that web page...

Ok , first part of the mystery solved.  Now what do you mean you have a berkley hull assembly  ??? , do you mean the transome adapter (the trim ring around the bowl) ?
Title: Re: How can I tell which type of jacuzzi jet I have?
Post by: maddogg20 on June 01, 2008, 11:56:58 PM
sorry for using stupid terms lol i dont know exactly what everythings called. I have the berkely intake assembly. The part of the setup that is built into the bottom of my boat is berkely (white colored) and the jet itself is jucuzzi (black colored)  Someone back in the day took the berkely put of my boat and stuck a jacuzzi in it and they had to use this piece of crap sheet metal adapter plate to fill in the gaps. I would try to just use all the jacuzzi parts but for some reason the part that goes around the jet and mounts to the back of the boat wont sit flush against the boat so I guess im stuck using the adapter plate :-(

Post by: maddogg20 on June 02, 2008, 12:00:38 AM
i could probably use a sealer but its like a 1/8 inch gap in some places. Maybe I could have a plate thats only slightly bigger than the mounting plate made and use that because the sheet metal plate looks like CRAP!!!

Hmmm, This dosn't sound good.  I think we need to see some pics !  The parts are, the intake ( the piece that bolts to the bottom of the hull )  The suction housing ( forward part of the pump that curves from the intake to the bowl) , the bowl, the transome adapter (trim ring that goes around the bowl and mounts to the transome (back of the boat) ), then the steering nozzel. Thats the basic version  ;) .  If you are sure you have a Berk intake than I dont think a Jacuzzi loader grate will work. Also you should look up inside the intake, if I remember right the WJ is smaller and shaped different than a Berk and there might be some ugly misalignment issues in there (bad for water flow).
IMO, If its a berk intake, get a berk jet.

Dont worry, the real experts should be here in the am to help figure this out  :sly: .

before I removed the main jet assembly and sent it to my friend, I looked up inside of it and everything seemed to line up fine, but you may be right and I may be screwed. I hope to god not hehe.

What is the reason you think the intake is a Berkeley?

Kind of hard to tell from the pics in the other thread, but someone might be able to help.

 Thanks for the link crewchief.

Yea that looks like a Berk intake,  But it dont look like a Berk pump  ??? .

(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi162.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft280%2Fandyjman16%2F100_0596.jpg&hash=823fb4c499c3c1f4de629a590820e9fea424cf7d)

The problem I see would be with a Berk intake you would need to use a loader for a Berk. And with a Jacuzzi pump on there I'm not sure that will work.  ??? ??? ???  Wheres Tom or Josh ?

Interesting, I'm gonna have to go with Jeff and say it looks like a Jac WJ on a Berkeley intake.  I took this picture once to show how similar the intake openings were.

Sorry to butt in, but if needed I have a bunch of Berkely parts as "spares", all in fair cond. Could part with some if needed more than me. Been doing this stuff for 20+ years and I never throw anything away :screwy:

Let me know

looks like someone made a addaptor plate from a Berk intake to a Jacuzzi pump.
If this setup works a Berkley intake loader should work... or rework the pump and put an inducer on the impellor shaft to load the pump.
Sure Josh @JBP would help you out with either.
Welcome to the weird and wounderful stuff done with jets  >:D ;D

Hey guys, I went to visit my jet today, it is indeed a jacuzzi WJ.  I was talking to my friend about the fitment problem and we werent sure if it makes a difference but my transom adapter is the 12 degree one, it says it on the housing. He gave me a normal one and Im going to see if it works better and sits flush, because I REALLY DONT want to use the crappy adapter plate.

I took some pics.....

Intake

so what do u guys think I should do?
Title: Re: How can I tell which type of jacuzzi jet I have?

You already have a loader assembly in your intake, its a two place for a Berkely. If everything else in in cool condition, I would have a new adapter plate made and let it roll ;D.

Unless you want to make a killer out of it, then I would upgrade to a 12JG or similar for unlimited parts availability. 8)

If you want to put together a list, I can help you out with a good Berkely "core" for  a good price and all you would have to do is buy a master rebuild kit and she'd be pimpin'. O0

i actually lined up the jacuzzi transom adapter without the adapter plate and it fits fine, it JUST covers the hole for the berkely up, prolly by about an 1/8 of an inch, Im going to try and use it and use some good sealer and see what happens. You think I should be good?

Just a thought, but would a Berk or Dominator transome adapter fit on a Jacuzzi bowl ?  You could always grind the name off.   ???

Thinking the same! I think a Jacuzzi is a little smaller in outside diameter :-\

A Berkely, bowl measures just a scoshe under 11-1/2". 8)  You could write on there "Berkuzzie" or maybe not. :-\

Your Golden, If it were me, I would try to utilize a Berkely adapter housing, modified to work with the Jacuzzi stuff, cant be that hard to do and would look sano 8)

As far as your loader, those actually work pretty well. :)

Good luck! Cool little project.

Try to borrow one to see if it fits (when you can put the pump back in the boat), there might be a problem with the height of the bowl.  Because of the Berk intake and Jacuzzi pump the bowl might be at a different height than normal for either transome adapter.  :-\

Sometimes if you bust your ass on something and it works out you have a real strong appreciation for it,
and on the flip side of it, if it doen't work out, take the knowlege you have gained and run like hell :)

Not trying to blow sunshine up your ass, but this should work out great!

I have not ever and probably never will have a new super trick boat, my stuff has always been junk that I keep tweaking until it is what I would have bought if I could, the stupid part is, I sell them and start over, so its obviously kind of a sickness :screwy:

Again good luck!

I dont like buying stuff thats already nice and ready. I like taking it and adding my own touch to it, plus that way if something takes a crap, youll know exactly whats going on because you put it together, lol theres no manual for the stuff we build hehe.

Quik story before I go check my eyelids for leaks, so I'm at the dump (transfer station), and this dude shows up with an 18' jetboat on a trailer full of garbage, I'm thinking "what an A-hole, treating a boat that way", so he proceeds to tie this ting off to one of the concrete columns in the drop off area, now my curiosity takes over and I say " hey what are you doing" well he was going to shitcan this 1984 Bahner, which looked pretty clean (nicer than my boat), curiosity again, "why", he tells me it has a crack in the side and can't be fixed. So I paid him $50 (his dump fee) and another $20 (gas) to drop this thing off at my house (less trailer), two months later we were skiing behind it at Lake Shasta :sly:

Sold it for $4500 the next year.
BTW the crack was in the gelcoat and cost me $240 to fix at a glass shop which I traded with a rig job on the owners bass boat. (why do you think my boats name is White Trash)

See ya
