Title: How deep in end yoke?
Post by: East County Kona on March 20, 2015, 05:11:48 PM
Looks like my splines were a little mushroomed, after some careful file work I can tap the yoke on just over 1.5". Should this be sufficient or do I need to make the yoke slide on all the way and freely?

Thank you,
Tim

Well first , how did they get mushroomed?? And no in my opinion that it not enough. 2 min . Is a good rule of thumb.

Not sure how it got mushroomed, I bought I used. It wasn't too bad just needed a little touch up to get it started but stops at 1.5". The splines and end yoke are only 2" max before hitting the thrust bearing.

Mine is about 1/4" from bottoming out. It's just enough to clear the crank for when I run it on the trailer

Needs to not bind anywhere by hand or the pump will push on the crankshaft thrust bearing and destroy the engine.  Approximately 3/16" clearance should be between the yoke and the snap ring in front of the bearing.

Perfect, thank you gentlemen. Looks like I've got some more to file.

Cheers!

My favorite is if its bottomed out and they don't complain.

Its terrible if u get one that wont accept to take the entire thing then it makes noise letting u know if wont take it all terrible whinning noise I tell ya.
