Title: How do you guys install your motor?
Post by: rhay916 on June 28, 2014, 10:56:26 AM
I'm installing a bbc in a hull with all new stringers and using a four point motor mount. So I'm wondering what degree should I set the motor and have the driveline at?
Thanks

I wanna say 3 degrees but I've been drinking and I wouldn't take my advice about mechanical stuff anyway.  You probably shouldn't either.

Someone will chime in shortly I'm sure.   Now back to the bar

Where you from? There most likely someone on here that wouldn't mind helping you install it too. Just throwing it out there.

Search "driveline angle" on the search engine. Tons of threads about this.

How I did mine. Was have the drive line in as close to perfect alignment with the pump shaft and angle. Then I lowered the motor just a tad to get the angle on the H bar. The angle I was told is .5 to 4 degrees. I got close to 1 degree.

Depending on your intake angle. I would either go with 3.5 or 4.5 to 5* I always put about .5 degrees on my drive lines.

How do you go about finding the angles?

Digital level on the intake, and then where else do you measure for the motor?

I think i also read where you want a little angle in the drive shaft so the crank and pump shaft are not perfectly aligned? Is that right?

I did that and got "0" results. I know it's been discussed before.

First I make sure it's lined up with my jig.
Yes I use a digital angle finder. Well when I did it on each boat I zeroed out my angle finder on the keel. Put it on the jet intake, found that angle. Then dropped the motor in with the angle finder on top of the intake. Make your adjustments till you get how much angle you want in your drive line. Having a rail kit makes this much more easy.

My tunnel dragster intake went in at 5.2 degrees and the motor is close to 6
The brown boat is at 4.1 and the motor is at 4.6. Plenty of angle in there.

.5 - 3 degrees on driveline an make sure your crank shaft is parallel to pump shaft.

You want no less the 3 degrees and reasoning for this is deceleration so you dont starve the oil pump
