my 86 baner broject
« on: September 21, 2012, 03:23:32 PM »
Hi I'm new to being a jet boat owner but grew up around boats and jet skis. I got a 86 banher with a 454 that was rebuilt but not sure if they did a good rebuild do to I have a vibration and its not getting enough oil in the valve train area here's some pics.

Sand blasted my exhaust tips do to they were nasty looking

sfi is a safety rating given to performance products. a sfi flexplate is built with better materials and welded to be stronger.  thus it costs more.  is it necessary in a flexplate on a relatively stock motor?  nah.

Have fun with it. Don't run that pump dry otherwise your project will include a pump rebuild also.....:-)

What's a good way to drain the oil with turning it into a mission. The drain plug is right next to the flexplate and I can bearly touch it with my fingers.

i pull my motor out.  or you can get one of those expensive oil sucking pumps and suck it out of the dipstick.

i know my dad used to toss a couple layers of trashbags under the motor like a diaper.  let the oil drain out and then CAREFULLY pull the bag out.  if it tears or snags you'll at least have 2-3 bags for it to flow into.

The main issue is I can't get to the drain plug so mite just pull it and drain it, or just support the back end of the engine and take the mount off to acces it

And when you do, get a fumoto valve with a nipple to replace your oil drain plug so you can run a 3/8" hose out your hull drain and drain oil with ease next time.

Thanks for the replays I ended up pulling it out and changing the oil. Went to lows got 1/4 90* fitting it was like $6 and tapped the oil pan screwed it in so next time I won't have to pull the engine out to change the oil here's some pics

They look like they are custom Bassett. The guy I got them from said they were Bassett but didn't see a logo on them. Here's some specs on them they are 2" primaries to a 5" collectors
