Title: It's getting better
Post by: muffbro on April 21, 2013, 07:46:40 PM
Weather was perfect today....finally a chance to work on the boat so i can get on the lake. .....cleaned the bilge, it needed it......removed the loose bilge pump  ( it had been put in with what looks like liquid nails ).  Got a new one.....Pulled the old plug wires and tossed em, have nice new 8.5 wires to replace them, the remote oil filter is now plumbed, the old dipstick was cracked and leaking from 2 places, new aluminum one ready to install. Re-torqued the manifold bolts, checked all the motor mounts and pump hardware.
RR'd the old fuel lines water lines and filters. Finished installing the new exhaust studs, still need the nuts.

The diverter I bought on eBay was shipped to Place Diverter and rebuilt. Tim shipped it Wed so I should have it Monday. I'll work in that this coming week. He tuned up the control as well.

The trailer is the original Gunter Hensley.   It's in pretty good shape but the bottom of both cross members have some cancer...... Going to work on that next week.  Lights too...
The beer hold is clean and ready for duty as well.

Ooooo where did you get the blue hose?

Are you talking about the waterline or the fuel line?

LOL.  That's the same reaction I had when I saw it... From a place in Iowa or Nebraska I think...

Maybe....

I'll have to look it up tomorrow at my office. I'll get the info for you.

They are flex fit lines and about $6 a foot here in California if I remember right. They are cool because they have fittings like steel braided. Here is a picture of how my old boat came out.

Got the diverter yesterday ..... yesssss.

I'll mockup the control today, order cable tomorrow..... Clean and paint it to match the housing and bowl.

Make it 'purdy' then install it...

Let me make a correction. I believe I paid around $3 a foot just for the hose and the fitting are about $5- $20 a piece depending on what you get.

Lets try this again.

I am disassembling the diverter and replacing the nyliners and to clean it up as well. Here is the start.

I was thinking about polishing the steering arm and control arm, but I'm leaning toward just painting them now.

( less maintenance....)

white for the diverter body and a deep blue for the control and steering arms.  I don't know...just a little color for contrast..

getting closer....  8) the diverter turned out OK..... It looked like it had been painted over many times...and an old Place Diverter sticker was under the paint layers as well.  :screwy:

I took the control apart and cleaned it up, sanded it and re-sprayed it a lighter color with a "spatter paint" .

I am curious about one thing, it had a 2 degree wedge on it: should I leave it on or does it matter with the diverter there now?  Maybe a little extra height on the roost?  Will it matter??

Diverter Cable and thru hull ordered and waiting to install everything... though I am still a little nervous about drilling a hole thru the hull for the cable.... :o

The carb is back together, could not have done it without my new friend Mr. Blackard. He is 77 and builds drags cars for his grandsons who race here in the Midsouth.....  his cars are fast....very fast.

The new fuel log came in as well. :) If the weather and work cooperate, I will try and get it fired up this weekend. I still have a lot to do...mount the bilge pumps / new coil and plug wires / re-bunk the trailer / clean the hull and wax / RR the exhaust hoses / change oil / and something I am forgetting I am sure.....

The salt water in the atlantic is pretty brutal, saltier and more acidic than say the pacific. I blasted my used diverter, hard anodized it and used appliance epoxy. looks as good as it did when i put it on 2.5 years ago.

Good idea on the anodizing....I sanded mine and just used multiple coats of the White epoxy.... Next year in going to sandblast it and powder coat it.

Sunrise to sunset working on the float .

Finished up the fuel lines...installed the new dipstick tube...changed the coil ....reinstalled the exhaust trumpets.... New SS T style clamps....New plugs..... Made up the new 8.5mm Wires......routed and zip tied lines etc, logs on... New water lines on.....attached throttle cable and tested function.  I left the coil wire off and cranked it.... Fuel pressure was ok...and  pumped the throttle and fuel was flowing....

It was dark when I git to that point.......Covered it back up and will fire it up tomorrow when I can see better. I want to make sure I have everything attached and tightened etc... Still a bunch of little things to do, but its ready to be fired up!!!

I AM READY!!!!

Fired it up a few minutes ago!  After not hearing it run for some months I was stoked when it cranked right up
...Small leak on the fuel log (not quite tight on the line) fixed that.  I will post a video later since I can't seem to send it on my phone.

Oh HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!
