-
Is that the Sanger motor Tom?
Yes for the time being , I pulled it cause Jork and Ian will pick up the Sanger this week, The New blower motor is waiting pistons at the balancer , should be done PDQ Tom
-
Yeh that already looks like caca, you should take that to someone that knows wtf they're doing. ;D Ahh who am I kidding, I'm already jealous. Tom is this one a "keeper" or who knows?
-
Looks great, Tom. That used to be my buddy Bobby's boat before Rod got it. He built it right out of high school. It used to have a mild 468 and would run 72 MPH. It threw up a mean rooster too. Only thing I didn't like was how you sit kinda high in the swallow hull. Keep those pics coming.
-
Wait, this is Rod's old boat?

I don't know what the technical term is. Because it is a tunnel hull, the distance from where the seat mounts to the floor and the top of the deck is very small. When sitting in it your knees would stick up above the deck. That's the best way I can describe it. Maybe it was just the way my buddy had it mounted?
-
Thanks Kreg ,I'll take that as praise :D
Koyota I'm having fun with it Thanks for the encouragment I'm very curious to see what it does with some HP !
Glen I think thats a term (swallow) that refers to the "cougars" you troll for in a boat like we all have 8)

I kinda like it! Very innovative. Made me go look at the pump cover on the Moo boat to se if I could do that too. I wonder if they make them in Titty Pink?

Looks great Tom! It's amazing to me how fast you flipped that puppy out.

Calm down girls, He'll get to it as soon as we all stop calling him every minute. I was there today and watched that poor guy talk on 2 phones for about 2 hours nonstop, while eating his lunch. Thanks Josh for the impeller / bowl help today, my little beast is going to break 100 easy now ;) . And Tom, the boat looked good in the videos, just don't try to pick on a blown flatbottom as your first victim with a new boat next time. ;D ;D

Dude, send those seats back to whatever bass boat outlet they came from and do that boat some justice :screwy:. Those are some ugly damn seats Tom, what happened did you lose your glasses? ;) ;D ;)
If you need some covers stitched up, give me a call and we'll see what we come up with.
-
Ummmmm, there again, I kinda like it!, lol
Dun wanna step on any toes, but they do match the boat.
Ray
-
I got some of them Cyclone seats, got over five bills in the shells. Nice guy that Dan. Dont mind all the cracks or chips, "thats just where the mexicans pried 'em out of the mold with screw drivers the covers will cover it"
-
Terry,
You DON'T have any seats from Cyclone, you have seats from Canyon Marine. Cyclone Speed & Marine is Jim Brock's shop, that's my sig line you're seeing. Now that that's all clear, how in the hell do you have five hundo in a set of 'glass buckets? ???
-
oooooops. yea yea thats right
-
Well, since you asked, sorry Jim, I baught two seats. Took one too upholstery shop, the other was cracked down the front side. Went to the Up. shop to see how it was going and the guy had some tape on it so he or I pull it off and off comes the gel coat with it. Meanwhile I got the ole lady on the phone with Dan Aaseth at CANYON Marine, told him one was cracked and the gel coat thing. No prob gonna send some out. Dinged my card again for another two hundo plus PLUS shipping again. So, I shipped the three ways total. On and on and on with this guy, Oh I must of cracked it he says. I said, "Dan, do you think I sit around and order parts, wait for them and play basket ball with them?" So on and so fourth, then the upholstery shop couldnt handle the job so I got another three bills in foam and materials. So now I got what 850-900 in these things, cant sell 'em and cant afford to put any more money in them.
-
Terry-
If you still want them covered, send me the seats, and your foam & upholstery, I'll take them to my guy and see what kind of deal we can work, he's good like that. Sucky situation to say the least. Let me know man.

I don't think I ever wanted to beat Terry up, did I? ??? shit now you got me all kinds of confused ???
as for the seat deal with T, if I can help him, or anyone else on this board out, in whatever way, I'll do it, life's too short.
You ready for the summer? Is WTII going to make it to LSAR?
How's tricks?

Skip, just giving you a hard time, sort of sounded like you were going to go off on Terry...You did just beat the crap out of Tom ;D
All I can say right now is maybe on the Blanco Basura II ;D, though it may not be painted yet....ran out of money, not to mention time.
I might bring down the Southwind if we still have it, been doing some final wrenching on it with every spare minute I have (which have not been that many to be honest)...
My seat frames are cut, need to get the bending and welding done once the dimensions are finalized, the problem is time, the fab shop has had a couple good jobs come in so I back burnered myself with them (paying customers first, if you now what I mean)....
Tommy, in all honesty, I'm not feeling the seats, colors are good, just sort of stick out like pontoon boat seats...maybe if you could lower the tops. ??? Really not sure why they're not working for me. :-\
GT
-
Blanco Basura, I like it!! You useing it or WT?
-
x3 on the seats...those shells you had in there (upholstered of course) are definitely the right seats for that rig............unless you gonna put a couple pedestal seat mounts on the deck and a trolling motor hangin off the side...
-
DISCLAIMER
Tom,
I meant no ill will when I posted about your seats, I even added the little smiley chingaderas so you'd know that my comments were meant lightheartedly, but I still stand by the fact that those seats do not fit that boat. End.
-
No offense taken ,re the seats or anything else on this boat like the welded headers or the runs in the paint or... My upohlsterer is in Mexico for vacation and Im selling fiberglass seat shells so fast my glass guy can barely keep up, I gave up mine from this boat to a customer last week , didn't want to be setting on milk crates so I snagged these for now , BTW this whole rig was put in the water "turn key" for an absolute minimum of $$ in less than 3 weeks runs 80 and handles well I'm happy with the whole project, I'll double my money when I'm done playing with it and when I'm bored I'll drive one of the other half dozen boats I have to pick from :o
-
..still one of the best looking boats I have seen. How would it be to have a quiver of boats at your disposal for those bored times...
-
Nice video's Tom. Is that Hal's flatbottom? If so that thing still kinda scared the shit out of me :-[

-
Tommy,
I hope that you caught the fun in my post about your fishin' seats ;) it was meant with no ill and if I have offended you then I apologize for that, the boat's looking good and I for one am stoked you have another hot rod to hit the water with, I wish I had a half dozen boats to choose from, between that and your lovely wife, you're a lucky man.

Drag racing pioneer Chet Herbert dies at 81 Apr 23, 10:22 pm EDT
ORANGE, Calif. (AP)—Chester “Chet” Herbert, a member of the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame who helped develop an exhaust header that blew smoke away from a dragster’s rear tires to improve traction, died Thursday. He was 81.
Herbert died of pneumonia at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, according to Sara Fensterer, a spokeswoman for Herbert’s son, Doug, who followed his father into professional drag racing. The elder Herbert lived in nearby Villa Park.
Herbert was stricken with polio at age 20 and lived the rest of his life in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the chest down.
“My grandmother told me he was so wild about racing, that if he didn’t have polio to slow him down, he probably would have died,” Doug Herbert said in a statement. “When my dad was 12, my grandma bought him a trumpet and hoped he’d learn to play. But he traded the trumpet for a Cushman motorscooter and it was life in the fast lane ever since.”
Lying in a hospital iron-lung for six months in 1948, Herbert developed ideas for manufacturing racing parts in his head.
Among his engineering and design innovations were the first roller camshafts for race cars. He was among the first to try nitromethene fuel in a dragster after reading how the German army had used it to power torpedoes during World War II.
Herbert helped develop the Zoomie-type exhaust header that blew smoke away from a dragster’s rear tires to improve traction, helping dragsters surpass 200 mph.
Growing up in Southern California’s 1950s hot rod scene, Herbert turned a Harley-Davidson motorcycle into the fastest quarter-mile dragster of its time. Nicknamed “The Beast,” the motorcycle clocked 121 mph at one of the first drag races in Santa Ana.
Herbert’s rivals complained that motorcycles held an unfair advantage and should be disqualified from Top Eliminator competition.
Eventually, Herbert turned to building innovative cars that often tested the rules of the National Hot Rod Association, the sport’s governing body. He developed scores of dragsters, drag motorcycles and land speed-record streamliners for other drivers.
Herbert was one of the first to establish a successful speed shop and parts mail-order business and was one of the first racing parts retailers to advertise in national magazines.
“Despite the fact that he had polio and was in a wheelchair for much of his life, he never let that stop him from doing anything,” Doug Herbert said. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to follow in his footsteps and be involved in a sport that he helped to invent.”
Herbert is also survived by wife Leanne; daughters Heather Herbert-Binetti and Tracey Drage; and sister Doris, who as editor of Drag News was inducted into the sport’s hall of fame along with her brother in 1993. Herbert’s grandsons, Jon and James, were killed in a car accident last year.
At the time of his death, Herbert and his only son were in the process of building a Bonneville streamliner with which they hoped to achieve 500 mph and break the world speed record for piston-powered, wheel-driven cars

So how far off was the pointer?
-
HD ya know your Sh*t ;) ! an astounding 8*+ or - not sure if its the dampner ,crank or ?? But critical on a blower motor !SI Inconels will be here tommorow Just couldn't feel "comfy" with the Manley "Race flows", Heads should be on tommorow , then comes the Rocker/valve stem/pushrod "shizzle"
Glad Josh has the patience for this ! Tom
ps anybody needs a set of bitchen stainless Manley 188 ex valves let me know1
-
Hear that boys, just cuz your pointer is on "0" dont mean it's at TDC....probably not. Didnt Ralph have a balancer ring moving around last year? Dont call it zero unless you degreed it yourself or watched it being done. I broke apart a spark plug a few years ago and bored out the body to accept a rounded stopper I pressed in for doing the dead stop method on Hemis w/ the heads on, would prolly work on other engines...carefully.

Funny stuff cause after he built the "piston stop" he dicovered a "heads on" device like you described in the Comp "dial in box"
-
I like it "in the hole" a little when doing that. I may get w/ you on them valves after I get that other Sanger So the moral of the story kids is, you think your running around on 37* lead or whatever, your probably not.
-
So how far off was the pointer?
Yeah, Terry knows his sheit allright. Had that same problem, twice on the Moo boat. Initial timing on my Ford was a challenge as well. Ford Changed so many things over the years it's too easy to get a different dampner with a diferent pointer, timing cover, etc. In the end was my finger on #1 Plug hole with my son (RJ) rotating the engine with a breaker bar (All he could do) reverse from rotation, then gather it was compression stroke. THEN we attached a degree wheel, right at where I felt #1 was at close to TDC and #6 was heading down, (with a coat hanger), we bent the pointer at tdc. Rotated her over a couple times to recheck it, then again at 10* btdc, that's where we set it and run it at Mead. (And again we did it after the tunnel install debacle.)
Have yet to buy a new timing light to recheck it, moved it only by seat of the pants and it seems fine.
Nice to hear you have the same problems with chebbies, lol
Silver Sharpie Markers on the balancer, all I gotta say. Mark TDC and 10*, can figure it from there.

Yea, they manifold reference for the PV's (drivability) and yea I understand you can controll the rump w/ the PV's. I was wondering mine runs smooth, no PV's. Thats what I hear anyways...good day
-
Manifold referencing is just blocking the internal vaume port in the carb and running a hose to the manifold for the PV's. So they read whats happening in the manifold not the blower....May kill the rump, I dunno....yet
